Late arrival to the Peaky Blinders party

Finally got round to watching this, quite enjoying so far although I struggled with the accents initially.
However Tom Hardy who I usually like is driving me mad, he seems so hammy and channelling his Bronson character mated with the Krays a bit too much.
Does he get better?

RedCrab · 23/08/2019 19:58

I’ve just started watching it - about four episodes in. Which one is Tom Hardy???

mrssunshinexxx · 23/08/2019 20:26

@RedCrab don't think he's in it until series 2 or 3

cushioncovers · 23/08/2019 20:39

Tom hardys character is called Alfie Solomon.

Dulra · 23/08/2019 22:39

Mainly though, apart from Cillian Murphy, it was the cinematography that hooked me. Every frame would have made a beautiful still photograph.
A friend of mine has been head of cinematography on a couple of series it is stunning. He said cillian Murphy has a key role in it too he's a very good eye (and is very easy on the eyeGrin)
Love love love the peaky blinders have been a committed fan since day one and can't wait for series 5

Samcro · 23/08/2019 23:03

i love John. and when he had all the guns and his wife likened him to a christmas tree

Thymeout · 24/08/2019 08:49

Dulra Give him a pat on the back from me! When I was little, babysitters hadn't been invented. I went to cinema every week with my parents, regardless of what was on. Even if I didn't understand the plot, I could look at 'the pictures'. It's been a lifelong interest of mine since I saw The Third Man. So I like to think I've got good taste. Grin

Yeah John was so entertaining to watch.

mommybunny · 25/08/2019 18:20

Watched all 4 series with DH and DS during our very wet Exmoor holiday a couple of weeks ago and we can’t wait to watch tonight!

I have a feeling that the tactic Tommy used to get allies away from Luca at the end of Series 4 will come back to haunt him with Aberama Gold.

scarecrowhead · 25/08/2019 22:12

Loved it ! So glad Tommy kept Cyril. Still not convinced he ordered the hit as he had dirt on the journalist already. Think Michael's in trouble when he gets back. Linda is still annoying, love Arthur and Polly is Queen.

Binglebong · 25/08/2019 22:16

What do people think of ep 1? I'm not loving it so far - seems to be being a bit too clever. When it started it seemed simple and then revealed plot within plot within plot.

And too much "look how clever I am" photography, rather than simply beautiful. That may be just me though.

I would like to know why they reversed a shot so Tommy dismounted on the wrong side - any ideas?

Dulra · 25/08/2019 22:24

I really enjoyed this. Agree looks a bit different to previous series they like to get a new cinematography team in each series so each series has a slightly different slant. I think they are setting this up for a very explosive series and as usual Tommy is trying to spin numerous plates at once not sure yet which will fall

Haggisfish · 25/08/2019 22:24

Oh I loved it. Thought the journo was a bit harsh, though. I think the little boy is going to cause trouble somehow. Michael deep in the shit-has he gone on the run?

scarecrowhead · 25/08/2019 22:26

Grace's ghost was a nice touch. When did he marry Lizzy ? I missed that

Samcro · 25/08/2019 22:28

how come his daughter is so old?
she was a baby at the end of last series and this one is 2 years later. yet she is at least 4, and his son hasn't aged!!!!!!

ClutchingAt · 25/08/2019 22:32

I would literally ride Tommy into the night sky. He's amazing.

Stormypud · 25/08/2019 22:56

I loved the fact that he did keep Cyril.

Haggisfish · 25/08/2019 22:57

Was Cyril his horse? What went into the grave then?

Stormypud · 25/08/2019 22:59

No he was Alfie Solomon's big dog - the one that met him on the steps at the end. If you haven't seen series 4 that won't make any sense though.

Haggisfish · 25/08/2019 22:59

Ah yes-caught up!

Samcro · 25/08/2019 23:24

Stormypud omg thaks

HelenaDove · 26/08/2019 01:15

Love this i call it the anti Downton Abbey

mrscampbellblackagain · 26/08/2019 06:27

I loved the episode but why has Tommy married Lizzie - he never loved her.
