GAME OF THRONES SEASON 8. Possible spoilers

Given we are only a week away from the final season, I thought we should have a shiny new thread to discuss the episodes as they are broadcast.

Anyone else going to be starting their watch at 2 am on Monday 15th?

I've watched the trailers and teasers dozens of times, and I am READY!

I have a theory that the Battle for Winterfell in Ep 3 will be lost, and they will have to move south, re assemble at Dragonstone or Kings Landing. After all, here are three episodes to fill after that!

@OneInAMillionYou are you going to do the honours and create a new thread for ep3 so that us early-birds can start discussing/moaning/crying without spoiling everyone else from 2am?

Aberforthsgoat · 28/04/2019 21:54

Who is staying up to watch tonight? I can’t watch until TOMORROW NIGHT.
if you hear that a woman has gone berserk and murdered an “innocent” bystander on a train going through Essex... that will be me in response to spoiler chat Grin

TheweewitchRoz · 28/04/2019 21:57

Thanks @SweetSummerchild

One Needle was the last thing Jon gave to Arya, that's why it was so important to her and she couldn't give it up in Bravos. In the books Jon's literal last thought as he was stabbed by members of the Night's Watch was "stick em with the pointy end".

I agree some of the writing has been far from perfect but it made total sense to me that Arya would show Jon that she still has Needle.

SweetSummerchild · 28/04/2019 22:02

Who is staying up to watch tonight?

To quote Mr Pratchett, “Bugger all this for a lark”. DH will be getting up at 6 for work and I’ll be watching it then (in my PJs with a large mug of coffee).

If I stay up til 2 am I won’t get to bed until 4 and then I’ll be buzzing and won’t be able to sleep. The kids get up at 7. I’m too damn old for that shit, even for GoT!

TheLazyDuchess · 28/04/2019 22:11

I'm staying up to watch

TheweewitchRoz · 28/04/2019 22:33

Me too @twattymctwatterson

Furries · 28/04/2019 22:40

Have been lurking these threads. Am going to try and get a couple of hours sleep and then watch at 2am UK time as really can’t wait to see what happens.

Howerver, am trying to process having just watched latest episode of Line of Duty, so not sure how much sleep I’ll get.

Thank heavens they’ve not started on season 2 of Killing Eve yet - I’m a blooming nervous wreck already!

OneInAMillionYou · 28/04/2019 23:16

Hello all

I've just started the episode specific new thread for tonight. Let's all hold hands and drink giant's milk to get us through this Long Night....

I watched the episode first thing this morning and I can't stop obsessing over it!!! I get goosebumps every time I think about Arya killing the Night King. I've watched clips of it over and over today. It has made my day in so many ways. Quite possibly the best scene I've ever seen on TV.

Oddly enough, I read today that Maisie Williams was nervous about how people would react because everyone expected Jon Snow to kill him...but that's why it was perfect. She's an amazing character and the scene was beyond brilliant.

TeaForTheWin · 29/04/2019 18:46

I enjoyed this episode. Lots of fighting :) It's being utterly slated on youtube I see though. I think people were hoping for more story about the whites or something. Pft. he's a baddy and he died so that'll do as far as I'm concerned. Bran already explained what the night king wanted last week anyway.

So glad Jamie, Brienne and pod lived. Extra worried now that brom is going to kill Jamie/tyrion now though (and one of them kills cerci in revenge...espesh since arya just killed another important character so probably wont kill cerci).

troppibambini · 29/04/2019 20:06

Absolutely loved it!! One of the best episodes. I've watched it twice today once with dh and once on my own this morning.
Dh now wants to watch it at 9 as well so will that make three timesGrin
The Arya scene was amazing I might have let out a little cheerBlush and when dany is crying and the dragon comes and lies it's head down next to her as he dies so sad, I did love him.

Decormad38 · 29/04/2019 20:08

Can anyone shed light on the 3 eyed raven? What is that storyline about?

troppibambini · 29/04/2019 20:08

Do you think the night king was a Targaryen?
Just a thought, he rides a dragon and dragon fire doesn't kill him?
Maybe he's the mad king?!

Decormad38 · 29/04/2019 20:12

No he was made 1000 years ago made to fight men. It has already explained where he came from

Mrscog · 29/04/2019 20:25

My god it was shite then it was brilliant. Girl crush complete!

troppibambini · 29/04/2019 20:47

Oh yes the tree people I must admit I zoned out a bit on that part of the story.

greatandpowerfulozma · 29/04/2019 21:44

@mrscog you summed that up perfectly!

JasperRising · 29/04/2019 22:22

Oh wow. Did not expect that ending. I honestly thought they would make the fight against the dead last beyond episode 3 - though I realised mid way through the battle that there was no way they could escape from Winterfell to retreat from the dead so it had to be decisive.

A bit disappointed they went the predicted route with the crypts, thought they had avoided it. Also a bit sad at my lack of emotion of Lyanna, I think there was just too much going on then. I only started to get emotional with Beric/the hound/Arya section and when Sansa and Tyrion shared their moment behind the tomb. It was Theon then Jorah that really got to me but then I am a sucker for crying at characters that knowingly sacrifice themselves (hence being surprised Lyanna didn't affect me as much).

I had started to think they would probably have to keep a lot of characters alive for plot reasons at this stage so not surprised at the number of big names still standing. Happy for Brienne and Jaimie though.

It feels a bit petty to go back to the squabbling over the throne now. I would be happy if this was the end of the series even though the matter of the throne is undecided (then I could imagine a happy end for my favourites). I guess Dany is going to have to promise the North freedom now that she has lost so many of her dothraki/unsullied and with only one dragon left (that is right isn't it? I lost track of Jon's dragon). To be honest they should just send Arya down to assassinate Cersei and be done with it....

Summersunshine2 · 29/04/2019 23:35

Can sometime pls link to the next thread?

Honeyroar · 30/04/2019 10:38

I think if they can get rid of Cersei and Euron the rest oft them are quite capable of living peacefully together!

TheGoalIsToStayOutOfTheHole · 30/04/2019 12:01

I was really really disappointed with the last episode. Very underwhelming. Though when I mention this on FB I get attacked by everyone!

I came across this last night

And am starting to think its probably (not even possibly..) true? The scene with the coin was random and pointless and he did seem very not himself towards the end too! Would be a hell of a twist for sure. He was too clever surely to go out that way..and hes been the best 'player' by a mile too.

TheGoalIsToStayOutOfTheHole · 30/04/2019 12:02

I did love it being Arya though.

Bu it came not even slightly close to battle of the bastards for me, when I was assured it would be much better!

Aberforthsgoat · 30/04/2019 12:30

@thegoallstostayoutofthehole but surely he would need to be dead for someone to use his face? The only time we’ve seen someone be alive and their face be used was in bravos with Arya but she was with Jacquen then and I always took that as part of the “magic” that made her blind - part of her punishment.
Will watch the video when I have a minute but I think it will be a bit lame if they bring him back. I think on a rewatch little finger isn’t as smart as I thought he was, so his character arc was actually perfect for me. He let his love for Sansa blind him and trusted her - going against his own motto “trust no one”.

I liked it being Arya too, the more I think about it the more it made perfect sense.
I think if it hadn’t been as dark people might have liked it more as there are lots of little details that can be missed on first watch.

Aberforthsgoat · 30/04/2019 12:31

My favourite episode is still Hard Home. The tactics in battle of the bastards let it down for
Me, and the last minute save the day by the knights of the vale although in terms of the spectacular it’s definitely a masterpiece
