Given we are only a week away from the final season, I thought we should have a shiny new thread to discuss the episodes as they are broadcast.

Anyone else going to be starting their watch at 2 am on Monday 15th?

I've watched the trailers and teasers dozens of times, and I am READY!

I have a theory that the Battle for Winterfell in Ep 3 will be lost, and they will have to move south, re assemble at Dragonstone or Kings Landing. After all, here are three episodes to fill after that!

I’ve got it - Podrick! That amazing sex thing must have relevance at some point

haha yes! I've actually been rooting for sansa and podrick since back when sansa was at kings landing, thought that would have been a good twist. They've missed a trick!

yumyumpoppycat · 27/04/2019 18:29

I think warriors can also have babies though - warrior men would want to have heirs. I want the stark's to continue so that means either sansa, Arya or Jon.

I 100% don't see Brienne having babies - head knight is what I want for her, but also knowing that she is still desirable and loveable while in that role is quite cool.

Aberforthsgoat · 27/04/2019 18:31

@sinkgirl same, same. Grin

RedForShort · 27/04/2019 18:32

Theon has both his testicles and penis removed hadn't he? Refered to as 'emasculated' in the GoT wiki

Unsullied are 'just' castrated according to that. Which means no testicles but gets to keep his penis.

All very charming!! (I do wonder how Theon wees.)

SinkGirl · 27/04/2019 18:38

I was sure there was a discussion in the series about the unsullied losing both. I could be wrong though.

hellodarkness · 27/04/2019 18:39

I don't want any of the female leads to end up doing anything so pedestrian as getting married or having children. Maybe I'll allow it in their hypothetical future, but it would ruin GoT for me to see them 'falling into the arms of a prince'. Surviving, defeating their enemies and wielding power will do i think.

RedForShort · 27/04/2019 18:40

TeaForTheWin, probably because women who have sex (in a world where there appears to be no contraceptive) may very well get pregnant.

Maybe we shouldn't see haveing a bady a being reduced!!

RedForShort · 27/04/2019 18:45

I had that in my head too SinkGirl. The wiki makes a distinction between castrated and emasculated - and has the unsullied as castrated.

Mind you wiki is not know as the most reliable source!!

SweetSummerchild · 27/04/2019 18:46

@SinkGirl in the books the Unsullied definitely have ‘everything’ removed. It is quite clearly stated. In the show it’s a bit more ambiguous.

Personally, I think Sansa’s main focus is securing the future of the north and her own security at the moment. If she ever does marry, it should be beyond the timescale of this show.

Her having a moment of companionship with Theon just before the battle was very touching, but I think too much should not be read into it.

ElenadeClermont · 27/04/2019 18:46

Aberforth Robert saw Rhaegar die apparently.

The battle screamed about Lord Robert and Prince Rhaegar both, and by the will of the gods, or by chance-or perhaps by design-they met amidst the shallows of the ford. The two knights fought valiantly upon their destriers, according to all accounts. For despite his crimes, Prince Rhaegar was no coward.
—writings of Maester Yandel

Rubies flew like drops of blood from the chest of a dying prince, and he sank to his knees in the water and with his last breath murmured a woman's name.
—Daenerys Targaryen's vision in the House of the Undying
awoiaf.westeros.org/index.php/Rhaegar_Targaryen

The entire book series can be seen as a search for Rhaegar's rubies, i.e. his blood / family.

Tea Brienne spent the whole of the Game of Thrones nannying Renly, Catelyn, Jaime, Sansa and also looking for Arya. She would probably get more fulfilment out of raising a baby than protecting these. Plus she could easily be Lord Commander of the Kingsguard with one hand, raise children and sort out world peace with another. She is very resourceful and resilient.
I am sorry if it is old-fashioned, but I want someone to openly love Brienne for herself and say it to her. Man, woman, child, I do not care. I love that woman.

SweetSummerchild · 27/04/2019 19:08

I’ve never seen a Rhaegar is Jaqen theory. There is a theory that Mance Rayder is Rhaegar, but it’s not particularly strong.

There are a billion and one ‘hidden identity’ theories surrounding the series. Every man and his dog is a secret Targaryan. Everyone else is Howland Reed. Meera Reed is Jon’s secret twin. The Sailor’s Wife is Tysha, because anyone who is gang-raped would naturally then choose prostitution as a trade!

It all gets a bit silly.

The only theory I buy into is that Draco Malfoy is definitely a Targaryan. Even the name gives it away.

I scanned through the thread and didn't see this mentioned, though I may have missed it.

It dawned on me today that regardless of the outcome, the House Stark is over. All that's left is Sansa and Bran.

Regardless of whether or not Sansa marries, she can't carry on the Stark name. And with Bran being the three-eyed raven...there is no one left.

Is it weird that this has upset me quite a lot?

DobbysLeftSock · 27/04/2019 19:48

I was just thinking the same Sad . Unless they switch to passing on the mother's name?! clutches at straws

SweetSummerchild · 27/04/2019 19:58

Sansa could have a child and it be considered a Stark.

It happened before with the Blue Rose of Winterfell. I think the story goes that a wildling called Bael the Bard ended up shagging the lord Stark’s daughter. They hid in the crypts and she had a baby (I don’t remember the order it happened in).

Eventually, the child became the only heir of Winterfell and continued the Stark name.

I can’t remember the full story off the top of my head.

SweetSummerchild · 27/04/2019 20:01

awoiaf.westeros.org/index.php/Bael_the_Bard

Maybe GRRM was setting up a situation where a female Stark’s offspring became the heir to Winterfell regardless of the status of the father.

QueenOfTheAndals · 27/04/2019 20:07

It dawned on me today that regardless of the outcome, the House Stark is over. All that's left is Sansa and Bran.

And Arya!

Beketaten · 27/04/2019 20:15

Will it become relevant that at least some of the WWs are Craster's sons, and therefore Gilly and Little Sam's half-brothers?

Jaffacakebeast · 27/04/2019 20:43

.

yumyumpoppycat · 27/04/2019 20:55

I had to google Draco Malfoy Grin I am so easily confused by all the names.

LordPickle · 28/04/2019 01:50

Ok yes Arya is left, but again, she's female. There are no male Starks to carry on the bloodline. Sad

TheLazyDuchess · 28/04/2019 02:22

If Ned Stark hadn't been executed, Jaqen H'ghar would have been given safe passage straight to Castle Black, by Yoren and co.

And it seems unlikely a faceless man would be caught, unless on purpose. So why did he want to go to Castle Black?

Rhaegar had very orante/distinctive armour. But was he defo the one wearing it? The red woman wears a ruby necklace, to enchant her appearance. Could Rhaegars armour have been enchanted? Would Robert have even bothered to take his helm off, to check, before a quick burial or burning?

Rhaegar being alive would be an amazing plot twist!

TheLazyDuchess · 28/04/2019 02:25

*and he wouldn't have met Arya.

She wouldn't have been with the nights watch. And if he was headed for the wall, what changed his mind? Meeting Arya?

TheLazyDuchess · 28/04/2019 03:00

The actor who played Rhaegar Targaryenin S6, confirmed he filmed scenes in Belfast for S8. So he'll appear in at least a flashback?

TheInvestigator · 28/04/2019 08:05

The unsullied have everything removed. When one was killed visiting a prostitute, Dany and Greyworm didn't understand why he'd have gone there because the unsullied don't have the equipment needed to use a prostitute.
