Well I want to know what the look was for at the end when he looked at the stained glass window. It was as though something clicked in his brain . Am i missing something ?

DSHathawayGivesMeFannyGallops · 11/02/2019 08:53

I wondered that. I wonder if I missed something in what the vicar said to him. Either that or his Quaker upbringing is sneaking in.

I loved his visit to the pathologist!

They always slip a picture of Colin Dexter in, in the same way as he turned up in person in every episode of Morse and Lewis when he was alive. There tend also to be nods to popular culture, though the only one I could detect in this episode was Thursday's use of "Mind how you go" - which was classically the sign-off line in Dixon of Dock Green.

I thought the point about the brush case is that, even though Thursday wasn't involved, it would taint him forever and put every investigation he was ever involved in under suspicion. I guess Morse decided that there was no need for that, though he couldn't bring himself to destroy the evidence.

dontcallmelen · 11/02/2019 09:11

I believe it was Thursdays previous bag man, planted the hammer I didn’t catch his name properly, sounded like Lott yy Endeavour hid the case as he knew Thursday isn’t corrupt but all his previous investigations would have become tainted.

Good review here. www.thecustardtv.com/2019/02/review-endeavour-enters-new-era.html?m=1

DSHathawayGivesMeFannyGallops · 11/02/2019 09:38

Thursday said his previous bag man was Arthur Lott.

Did Morse restash the evidence where he found it? I was watching whilst doing something else and wasn't sure quite where it ended up!

dontcallmelen · 11/02/2019 10:34

DS yes he put the case back, in the hidey hole in the church.

dontcallmelen · 11/02/2019 10:37

Yy excellent review.

Do we really need a Spoiler Alert? Surely everyone knows that virtually every thread on Telly Addicts will contain spoilers?

DSHathawayGivesMeFannyGallops · 11/02/2019 12:19

Thanks! I thought he did! Next question- are Fred and Win back together? I want more Tango

Elderflower14 · 11/02/2019 13:15

I asked for Spoiler Alert because before I've had people have a go at me on my threads when I haven't.. 😕 😕 😕 😕 😕

I think it's a good idea too, because sometimes there have been threads discussing Endeavour and when it will come back, how it relates to Morse etc, just general stuff, especially as it's just the start of the season now, so people might not be expecting a play-by-play commentary. I thought of that after I posted something last night, and was glad that the spoiler warning then came up in the title. Looking forward to next week's now, specially as I'm starting to get it clearer in my head who is who and what's happening. I must watch Morse again some day, as it's been 20 years or more!

dontcallmelen · 11/02/2019 14:16

DS not sure what’s going on with Win & Fred, I think it might be to do with Fred lending his brother quite a bit of savings in the last series, his brother is a bit of a wrong un I seem to remember.

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 11/02/2019 14:18

Do we know from the novels if Endeavour and Joanie are ever truly an item?

SaturdayNext · 11/02/2019 15:09

Elderflower, have people had a go at you about spoilers for programmes that have already been broadcast that are discussed on the Telly Addicts board? If so, they're idiots and can safely be ignored.

Clawdy · 11/02/2019 15:12

The Morse novels tell us very little about Morse as a young man, as I remember. As a student at Oxford he met his fiancee Susan, but she went off with someone else and broke his heart. I don't recall any other women in his life, although the tv series with John Thaw brought in the occasional love interest. Pretty certain the Joan thing is made up for the Endeavour series.

SaturdayNext · 11/02/2019 15:13

I felt so sorry for Fred last night, both in relation to being demoted and the situation at home. His life must be hellish on every front. Even Box's apparent olive branch at the end didn't seem to be very convincing. Here's hoping that with Morse at his side, and Strange manipulating things in the background, his life will start to improve. It also seems a dreadful waste putting Bright into Traffic.

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 11/02/2019 15:20

Clawdy thanks for letting me know.

Clawdy · 11/02/2019 15:48

Wish they would change it really, and give him some happiness!

OldLadyKnee · 11/02/2019 15:58

I thought Anton Lesser as Bright was brilliant. He managed to convey a world weariness and loads of complex emotions in a very short amount of time.

When all the detectives were together it was very powerful how you had the callow and arrogant new boys being flippant and the old Cowley lot being serious. You could feel the weight of all the horrible things they had been through together.

Elderflower14 · 11/02/2019 16:14

In 2002 on my first birthday after my dh died I went on a coach tour to Oxford which included a Morse walking tour. I might go back and do it again as Morse, Lewis and Endeavour...!

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 11/02/2019 16:17

I agree, Clawdy. He may have had his heart broken but would expect that he would have recovered sufficiently to have another relationship so many (five. six or is it more?) years down the line. Mind you, didn't he show an interest in a (student) nurse staying in the same halls of residence but that went pear-shaped very quickly too?

MissMarplesKnitting · 11/02/2019 18:22

Anton Lesser is a top class actor. I was watching Wolf Hall lastnight on repeat and forgot he is in that too.

Though TBH the cast of Endeavour is full of real quality actors. It's a very good series in terms of writing, acting and the production.

dontcallmelen · 11/02/2019 18:41

Miss thank you it was driving me mad, I couldn’t place what programme I had seen Anton Lesser in, yy superb production values & ensemble cast.

WhenDoISleep · 11/02/2019 21:17

If I remember rightly the Win / Fred situation is down to two things - his lending his brother the money plus the fact he was due to retire during the last series and she was looking forward to that. Fred changed his mind about retirement not entirely due to the money loss, but it certainly didn't help.
