Is Castlegate police station where Thursday is? I’m confused.

PickleFish · 10/02/2019 21:59

Not sure which ones are back together now! What's the other guy's name, the one who wants to investigate George's death, how did he get Morse transferred? Is he at Castlegate too?

MissMarplesKnitting · 10/02/2019 22:01

Strange is behind the scenes working on manpower. I also suspect he's investigating police corruption.

He ends up as Morse's chief constable

dontcallmelen · 10/02/2019 22:08

Yes in the Morse series, Strange always called Morse ‘Matey’

CoolCarrie · 10/02/2019 22:08

Strange is in the masons and that’s how he got the chief inspector to sign the transfer for Morse, he suggested something about the Oxford lodge without actually saying that Morse was a mason, which Morse isn’t he doesn’t like the masons at all. We see more of his dislike in Inspector Morse.
That was a great, but sad episode, glad to see Shaun Evans back, I have a wee crush on him, and wonderful Roger Allam.

Clawdy · 10/02/2019 22:13

Very dark episode but very good, I thought. Did seem very unlikely that the nasty detective inspector would be wearing a scruffy tee shirt though!

bsmirched · 10/02/2019 22:14

And what a lovely nod to Colin Dexter, too.

Elderflower14 · 10/02/2019 22:16

What was the nod to CD I missed it?

OP posts:
MissMarplesKnitting · 10/02/2019 22:16

Yes I spotted that on the noticeboard too!

Shaun Evans been involved in producing and directing this series

dontcallmelen · 10/02/2019 22:18

Swoons a little more, how talented is Shaun Evans.

PickleFish · 10/02/2019 22:23

Oh I'd forgotten anything about Strange in the later Morse series. I guess that explains it, or some of it. I hope they all get back in the same dept soon

I saw the Dexter reference too!

PickleFish · 10/02/2019 22:26

Not sure I like to know that Morse hid the brush case again back where it was. Both because I don't want him to have done anything wrong, and because I worry things will come back to haunt him later if and when it gets found some day! But I guess Morse in later years wasn't always by the book good guy, just that Shaun Evans makes me want him to be.

But the moustache has to go!

I hope they can keep these up for a few series even though I know they didn't want to run into the overlap time with the original Morse series.

dontcallmelen · 10/02/2019 22:27

I think is this series, we see Endeavour buy the flat that Morse lived in also the red jag makes an appearance.

Clawdy · 10/02/2019 22:31

The brush case thing was rather odd, because it proved the guy who was hanged had not been innocent as Thursday feared. Not sure why it was re-hidden. That bit with Thursday punching the tied-up man was very disturbing.

MissMarplesKnitting · 10/02/2019 22:34

I'm not sure if there will beany more series, which I'm gutted about because I love it. I will have to get back into Morse though because I've not watched them for years.

I do like how Abigail Thaw is in Endeavour and there's beautiful nods to the original series. It's deftly done.

dontcallmelen · 10/02/2019 22:41

Miss me too, I also love the nods to Morse & his little tics, how he does the head/hand gesture, lovely touch with Abigail Thaw as well he was such a fine actor, died far to young.

bsmirched · 10/02/2019 22:41

For those who missed it

Endeavour.... SPOILER ALERT
Clawdy · 10/02/2019 22:42

I'm always amazed by how much Abigail Thaw looks like a younger Maureen Lipman.

CoolCarrie · 10/02/2019 22:51

The brush case was rehidden because Thursday would had been in serious trouble, as it would have suggested that he was corrupt, planting evidence and Thursday is a good man. I think Morse did the right thing. I hope Win and Fred get back on track as they were a sweet couple.

Bubastes · 10/02/2019 22:59

Did the detective inspector have an Australian accent or was I imagining that?

AnneEyhtMeyer · 10/02/2019 23:10

I did wonder if that's the last reference to Colin Dexter with the "celebrating the retirement of..." poster. I really hope not.

PickleFish · 10/02/2019 23:45

Yes I agree it was the right thing to do in many ways, and Thursday is a good man. But worries me that it could haunt Morse later, and also that he covered up corruption too. But I guess he covers up a lot of things, because it's the right thing to do morally, so why not this.

Redshoeblueshoe · 11/02/2019 01:12

From the beginning of Endeavour I have always said to DH that he will have to have something really bad happen, to make Morse the person he was. Very sad and cynical.
That's why I think it will get very very dark Sad

Clawdy · 11/02/2019 08:25

But Thursday didn't plant the evidence, he said the hammer wasn't there when he checked earlier, so someone else did. Guess he kept quiet about it though.

DSHathawayGivesMeFannyGallops · 11/02/2019 08:40

Hurrah, found my people Grin.

Very relieved Morse got bumped back up, although sadly he's taking his tache with him. I wonder if he ever finds out that Strange has an active hand in it. I liked the Dexter tribute, and that Strange hasn't given up on George Fancy. Really hope this isn't the last series!

Also, that flash back of Joan saying she's going to night school, I'm wondering what went on there.
