Finally watching episode 1 of this. What I don't understand is, do the contestants know they are on a stage and that the mirrors might open? I thought they didn't know, but none of them seem shocked that there's an audience there when they open

OP posts:
maddiemookins16mum · 12/01/2019 17:32

They do know. I know of someone on tonight’s episode.

CAAKE · 12/01/2019 19:28

They know the audience is there, but they don't know if the wall is going to open - that's what they seem surprised about.

VampsLoveTheBigToss · 12/01/2019 20:58

The woman on reception is better than the 2 presenters, she's funny and natural. I'm only watching for queen Oti!

Bumblebee39 · 12/01/2019 22:57

Love the dancing

Not surprised Cheryl is getting stick though, she seemed very unnatural and uncomfortable

The deaf guy tonight Shock

silverbirches · 13/01/2019 00:42

It's all such forced whipped-up hysteria though, isn't it? And why can't we just watch the performance instead of the cameras constantly cutting away to the audience all the time so you miss half the dancing?

MustBeDueSomeBetterFeet · 13/01/2019 09:50

It's ridiculous to call it the 'greatest dancer' though when the audience (the deciding factor) have obviously no insight into dance!!

I'm also cringing at all the VT before they perform. Why can't it be about the performance!!! Gaaah! Maybe the next stage will be better....

Bumblebee39 · 13/01/2019 10:51

It's always like that on these shows though. The X factor etc. Are dreadful for it too- just let me watch the performance

Powergower · 13/01/2019 11:00

I watched some with dd. It drags on and oti is so ott she can be annoying. Cheryl looks really out of place and is trying hard to keep up with the energy of oti. What is she doing here, expressionless face and generic comments.

ppeatfruit · 13/01/2019 11:22

Oh lord I tried to watch again (I love Oti and The Dancce dahlings) but really those fat blokes put me off immediately did they get through? I don't really care Sad It's such crap Sad

MrsBosh · 13/01/2019 12:42

Cheryl has no idea what she's talking about. 'You were just bam, bam with ya arms'. Insightful.

taxi4ballet · 13/01/2019 13:19

ppeatfruit the fat blokes? Of course they got through.

I tried to watch it again. I really did. But if anything, last nights offering was even more abysmal than the first one.

All that guff about anyone can win, and nobody needs technique or any proper training. What utter bollocks, and a total insult to all those top-class trained dancers (both amateur and professional) who have dedicated their lives to their art.

I'm out.

ppeatfruit · 13/01/2019 15:22

Thanks taxi Why can't they make a more intelligent version of Strictly? Why is everything aimed at the yoof? As I said on Roussettes's thread this programme is an insult to young people too.

SisterFarAway · 14/01/2019 11:55

I know someone on Saturday's episode who didn't get through. I was a bit surprised by their choreography and thought that they had danced better before. Their whole performance seemed a bit lacklustre.

ppeatfruit · 14/01/2019 16:14

Maybe too nervous Sister

MomOfTwoGirls2 · 20/01/2019 13:36

I have watched all 3 weeks so far.
I am enjoying the dancing. Some very talented acts taking part.

Yes, I wish they spent less time on the drivel such as ring the bell and reception. I don’t mind a short back story, and the introduction by family or friends is nice.

I love that they included one inspirational dancer each week so far.

I’m looking forward to getting to top 9 and seeing some really great dancing!

Anyone else still watching? Who have your favs been so far?

charliebear78 · 20/01/2019 20:32

I am watching-but I record this and The Voice so watch both on one night with copious amounts of wine! So I can't always remember to clearly haha...
Think it's all a bit rubbish but easy Sat night TV.(so I will probably be watching to the bitter end)
I do not have any faves as yet!

Doobydoobydooyeh · 20/01/2019 20:35

I really like it. Loved little Shayla last night.

arriettyspiders · 20/01/2019 20:53

I watched this by mistake, I thought it was BBC Young Dancer (which isn't on yet). But I carried on watching.

I liked the two contemporary dancers from Jelli Studios best. There was a bit of a furore about the male ballet dancer not getting through, but while his technique was obviously very strong, his performance was flat I thought.

arriettyspiders · 20/01/2019 20:55

I don't like all the chat, and repetition, I just wish they'd get on with it.

I laughed at Cheryl's 'I was a ballerina and danced with the Royal Ballet). She only did one of their short summer schools, apparently at approximate age of nine years.

Italiangreyhound · 20/01/2019 21:53

I love it. It is fabulous.

I think the listening in to audience members is quite fun.

I though little Shyla was amazing but I also liked Dane Bates Collective and Harry and Eleiyah.

So far I think Company Jinx are the top runners.

Some amazing acts. I love Andrew.

Fabulous.

I've not watched this kind of thing for 14 years!! Total convert!

MomOfTwoGirls2 · 20/01/2019 22:32

arriettyspiders agree re ballet dancer.

I liked all mentioned above, and also Unity.

Where did we see Unity before? Was it Got to Dance or Britain’s Got Talent? I thought they were even better last night.

ppeatfruit · 21/01/2019 10:35

Nah I can't be bothered with it, it's such a disappointment. Too many dancers, too much hysteria, etc. etc.

Bumblebee39 · 26/01/2019 20:21

I am quite enjoying it so far. Don't often watch these shows so maybe it's the novelty Confused
Cheryl makes me cringe though. I usually find her very likeable** though

Tanaqui · 26/01/2019 20:28

I used to like the dance thing on sky with Ashley banjo- was it got to dance? - is this anything like that?

jacksonmaine · 26/01/2019 20:30

Too much chat and not enough dance and Cheryl an odd choice.
