The Greatest Dancer

Finally watching episode 1 of this. What I don't understand is, do the contestants know they are on a stage and that the mirrors might open? I thought they didn't know, but none of them seem shocked that there's an audience there when they open

It would’ve been a lot more respectable as a competition if it didn’t have the sickly kids act and the male strippers. The only actual talented ones imo was the Dane Bates collective and H and E. Ellie is just flexible.

The very best dancers are either in full-time training (in which case their school or college wouldn't allow them to enter something as frivolous as this) or they are professionals and working in the performing arts already (in which case they wouldn't bother and couldn't get the time off anyway) or they are teaching the next generation

I think having Cheryl was a big disadvantage in terms of the choices of choreography on the night, the first dance didn't show them off well and the second didn't seem very original to me.

Mind you, the circus themed dance last week was very good.

I think the right act won

The drag act trying to get some attention in the background during interviewing was highly irritating though.

H and E were my favourite, although I think Ellie had the better captain. I loved hers and Oti's dance together.

I have a feeling that this won't be the last we will be seeing of Harry and Eleiyah on TV. Their mentor/choreographer is Jennifer Ellison and their appearance on TGD may have opened a door to a career on TV, like AJ and Chloe did on Britain's Got Talent.

Goosey called it H&E were my favourite. Eliie was bendy and good to watch but should have been second place.

KLA were definitely told screeching was cute. It isn't.

I don't think the captain's choreographed the dancer's routines. I was surprised that they weren't shown in the recap films.

The Dr Who dance was amazing.

DD says "I dont think so; I think if you are not so good, you can hide it more easily on your own, and if your partner is better than you it'll show"

Interesting. As a non dancer, I assumed it would be the opposite - eg with H&E they did the leaping into his arms thing a few times which made me think you could use that kind of thing to cover up. A solo dancer is just them.

My dance experience is limited to years of waiting for DD to finish a class though 😂 I dance like a self conscious giraffe with balance issues.

We are more alike than I thought..........

DD thinks the right 'dancer' won - the couple were at different levels and of the finalists, Ellie had the better technique - but it's pretty subjective, in competitions the winner often dances to more popular music which influences (particularly audiences) subconsiously

It will be interesting to see Ellie on Strictly later this year. I wonder whether she'll do the same routine or invent a new one.

I tend to agree with you there.

I liked Ellie but I felt H and E should have won.
