I’ve binge watched for 2 days as I’m ill. I never tire of it. I have one niggle: about Pete and Dawn’s children. Why do they look so young in the vow renewal scene? If they were that young, they’d have been round at Pam and Mick’s all the time too.

Was a bit weird yesterday seeing Pam Ferris in G and S followed by Matilda.

My favourite characters are Ness and Bryn. I like Ness the way I liked Father Jack. Every single thing they say is funny and you just want to hear more.

We binged this for the first time last year. Absolutely love Smithy.

Months later we're still using the phrase "what's occuring" 😂

flameycakes · 04/01/2019 15:33

My neighbours have compared me to Nessa on more than one occasion x

divafever99 · 04/01/2019 15:56

I still don't get what happened on the fishing trip!?

Isitmybathtimeyet · 04/01/2019 16:14

We never know. I saw Rob Brydon doing a Q&A once and he said they never knew either but he loved all the random references. His favourite was the soup one that a PP mentioned.

I never ever tire of G&S. Matt Lucas as the stag night guru, Smithy asleep in the bath, Mick's lamb, the flat viewing, everything Nessa ever says...

DaveCoachesgavemetheclap · 04/01/2019 16:40

I was watching the episode last night when Nessa and Stacey are discussing the wedding while bleaching their moustaches. It always makes me laugh when Nessa says that Stacey could have had a more suitable bridesmaid like Leanne and when Stacey asks "Leanne who?" she says Leanne Battersby off Corrie Grin I think that scene is the only time when we see Nessa lacking confidence, thinking that she will stand out as the ugly bridesmaid.

HelloGabriel · 04/01/2019 17:08

The episode in s3 where they all go to Barry Amusements and Nessa remains stony-faced on all the rides Grin cracks me up.

I love the scene during the Christmas special when they all arrive and everyone is fussing over Neil (the baby) at the door, it's one of the rare times wee see Nessa smile, she looks so proud.

Yes I'm too heavily invested Wink

ShakeYourTailFeathers · 04/01/2019 17:36

I love all the men discussing oven gloves Grin

LuckyLou7 · 04/01/2019 18:00

I love the friendship between Stacey and Nessa, although it's never really explained how they became friends - are they the same age? I also love Uncle Bryn, and I loved seeing Rob Brydon and Joanna Page speaking Welsh to each other on Would I Lie To You.

although rumour has it neither speak Welsh fluently

Fromage · 04/01/2019 18:01

Nessa in the bath.

N "Stacey will you do my back?"
S "Yeah."
N "The razor's by the sink."

Flanuary · 04/01/2019 18:06

LuckyLou Stacey said no one knows Nessa’s age Grin

I love G&S, it’s probably the one thing on tv that I can watch again and again and never get bored. My favourites are Pam and Mick, and of course, Nessa. ‘Where is the book?’

ButteryParsnips · 04/01/2019 18:10

Right, let's get this party started! Who's for a beveragini? Grin

LuckyLou7 · 04/01/2019 18:36

I never realised til this thread that all the family names are serial killers.

Chosennone · 04/01/2019 18:59

I love the familiarity between them all. E.g the robot. But when Smithy arrives at Pam and Micks 'snooker loopy' and they all join in with 'nuts are we'. I also think Matthew Horne does have some good facial expressions when he reacts to Dor's come on's. I've seen them loads but only noticed Nessa rinsing her fingers and Gwen passing her a tea towel after the 'me time batteries scene'.
When they all line dance at Gwens birthday party to Island in the Stream 😂😂

thenewaveragebear1983 · 04/01/2019 19:12

Luckylou and Pete (sutcliffe) and dawn.

sprinkleofsunshine · 04/01/2019 19:23

Couldn't get to the end so may have been said but my favourite line is Nessa shouting at the blokes in the arcade:

'What's this I hear about a brunch?'
'Well what it is...'
'Oh...oh....oh....oh.... I gotta go stave it's mayhem down here' Grin

One of my favourite ever programmes. Love Nessa, agree it's all about her and smithy really. Stacy is a bit of a brat.

Love Pam and Mick would love to go to their for an evening and have a wine with Pam and Dawny!

Pinkyponkcustard · 04/01/2019 19:24

My absolute favourite too such a warm comforting watch.

The music reminds me of my 20s and getting together with my husband (we also had a long term relationship and I moved away from my family to be with him) The episodes where they come back from honeymoon feel so bittersweet to me, they remind me of how wonderful it was when my family came to visit and we were all together with my in laws but how crushingly awful it was when I hugged my parents and they got in the car and drove away. (He moved to my hometown in the end and we had a baby so it was a happy ending)

I love Nessa and her absolute confidence (apart from that scene where they are bleaching their tashes and she tries to get Stacey to have Leanne Battersby as her bridesmaid. Sometimes I try to channel my inner Nessa when times get tough.

I would defo say try to watch them on iPlayer rather than Dave, they chop out huge bits on Dave including Doris talking about a cheeky finger.

Pinkyponkcustard · 04/01/2019 19:29

it is crazy to think how old it is though and how some things have changed. Gavin and Stacey got married in April 2007, you can see it’s age in the phones, the reference to working in Dixon’s, the smoking in the pubs and the fact that Bryn gets a galaxy truffle in the Christmas episode (we need to start a campaign to get them back)

SpinSpinSpin · 04/01/2019 19:50

I like the rap that Smithy & his sister do down the phone to Gavin.

I also like the end of the very last scene where Smithy walks up to meet Gavin, Stacey & Nessa. You don't hear the dialogue but Smithy puts his hand on Nessa's back. Not a massive gesture but it shows they are friends.

Chosennone · 04/01/2019 19:50

Yes the smoking and the phones are the only things that date it. Oh and some of the 'going out outfits', makes me very nostalgic. Sheridan Smith looks so young in it. I definitely aim to be like Pam when I'm older, my start calling my DS 'my little Prince' Grin

Pinkyponkcustard · 04/01/2019 19:52

@Chosennone me too! I love Pam, she’s so glam

Pinkyponkcustard · 04/01/2019 19:54

Interestingly I saw an interview with Ruth Jones about the Christmas episode. The little lad who sits on her knee in the Santa tent is her real like nephew. He just be 18 - 20 now!

Fairyangela · 04/01/2019 20:11

I LOVE Gav & Stacey. Favourite bits are:

Smithy singing in the car, Gav phoning, joining in and the little ‘yes!’ From Smithy as he times it perfectly.

Smithy and the takeaway scene. ‘A korma to me is pointless, it’s futile’

The episode where they’re all the Shipmans getting twatted and dancing on the sofas to madness.

When Smithy turns up at Gavs and he’s singing ‘World in Motion’, Gav and Mick join in and forget the line and Pam comes from round the corner and reminds them. Genius.

LuckyLou7 · 04/01/2019 20:20

The smoking ban in pubs came in, in Wales in 2006 and England in 2007, so they shouldn't have been smoking indoors in the first place. I always thought they were filmed outside having a fag.

SummersB · 04/01/2019 20:28

Also just binge watched over Xmas! Love it so much!
Lots of my favourite bits mentioned already.

The fake job interview had me in tears of laughter!

Also Uncle Bryn singing “Something inside so strong” in church 🤣

One of the many scenes that I always find really touching is Uncle Bryn’s cringeworthy efforts to turn his house into a bachelor pad, he is so desperate for them all to like it. And then they do, and are all really lovely with him and take him with them on their night out and treat him like one of the lads! I can’t quite explain it but it always makes me go a bit tearful.

I think it’s so good because the writing is the perfect mix between hysterically funny and very heartwarming and touching. Just an absolute perfect balance. Also so true to life, which makes it even more funny. I love it so much, definitely one of the best comedies ever written.

kinseymilhone · 04/01/2019 20:38

I have loved reading this thread so much and have done so to a background sound track of Snow Patrol "You could be Happy" (G&S break up/get back together nightclub scenes).

I adore Pam & Mick, they are my ultimate fantasy parents and I think the actor who plays Dawn is absolutely brilliant (mind you, they all are, every single one of them nails it!).
