I’ve binge watched for 2 days as I’m ill. I never tire of it. I have one niggle: about Pete and Dawn’s children. Why do they look so young in the vow renewal scene? If they were that young, they’d have been round at Pam and Mick’s all the time too.

Was a bit weird yesterday seeing Pam Ferris in G and S followed by Matilda.

My favourite characters are Ness and Bryn. I like Ness the way I liked Father Jack. Every single thing they say is funny and you just want to hear more.

Pam and Mick's house is actually in a village near Cardiff, isn't it? I remember reading about the motorway driving scenes being filmed as the characters drove up and down the same stretch of road.

Alteregoagain1965 · 09/01/2019 16:49

Dunno why but I find it hilarious when Nessa goes for her scan and the bed is reclined Grin

TinklyLittleLaugh · 09/01/2019 16:56

Dave Coaches is riddled though. "Riddled" is a bit of a catch phrase in our house.

Also the bit where Bryn says something random from a Welsh language textbook like "Ydych chi'n hoffi coffi?" at the Nationalists. Everytime we go to visit my family in Wales, DH goes on about the neighbours, "Oooh but are they Nationalists?"

WTFdidwedo · 09/01/2019 17:52

@LuckyLou7 yeah it's Dinas Powys just down the road from Barry. And the M&S Stacey works in "in Essex" is actually in Culverhouse Cross, a retail park in Cardiff.

Cattus · 09/01/2019 19:01

Well you learn a new thing everyday. It hadn’t occurred to me the house wasn’t in Essex. Well that makes sense. (I feel like I’m channeling Bryan as I write).

Well yes. But answer me this. Who will eat the ricicles?
Fair point.

This exchange at the wedding cracks me up everytime

Doris: Mr and Mrs Shipman? That's bad luck by anyones standards.

Griff: What now?

Doris: Well she lives for the day she change her name from West, what with all the connotations and what have you, and what does she become? A Shipman.

Griff: Ah, that's very unfortunate. I don't know which is worse.

Doris: Surely Shipman?

Griff: Well, it's six of one and half a dozen of the other.

Doris: It was more than half a dozen, Griff. It was in the hundreds.

What's the actual deal with Bryn and his nephew?? Did I miss something? It always confuses me!

Stardustinmyeyes · 09/01/2019 19:32

8Days, if you missed it we all did!
It was just a joke, never to be explained. I don't think even Nessa or Smithy know themselves

Pinkyponkcustard · 09/01/2019 20:23

Something I noticed about Pam and Micks house is on the wall behind the front door (so you can see it when someone answers the door) is a mosaic and it has a red welsh dragon in it!

LuckyLou7 · 09/01/2019 20:42

Bryn starts explaining the fishing trip in the kitchen, when Dave Coaches walks in on him and Jason in their underpants, drinking milk. Then someone else arrives and he doesn't say anything else.

Rubytinsleslippers · 09/01/2019 20:42

Has anyone seen 'human remains' Rob Brydon and Julia Davis ( dawn and bryn ) very dark but very funny?

8DaysAWeek · 09/01/2019 22:28

There seem to be a few in jokes that leave the audience asking questions. I watched series 2&3 before 1 so I wasn't sure if I just hadn't connected the dots properly.

My take is they went camping and things got a bit Brokeback Mountain but obviously they're related so a tad awkard?

Stardustinmyeyes · 09/01/2019 22:59

8Days
The writers have said that there is no back story, it's whatever the viewer wants to make of it.
Ruth Jones (Nessa) and James Corden (Smithy) are the writers and have said that there is no story.

StormyDaniels · 09/01/2019 23:31

This thread is fantastic, i’m giggling away to myself. I’d forgotten about “Tidy” Grin

Didn’t Nessa have an affair with possibly both Richard & Judy? There was something about her lying on their sofa and Judy being an alcoholic?

I think I need to rewatch them all now.

DuggeesWooOOooggle · 10/01/2019 07:48

What I want to know is how Gavin and Stacey got in contact in the first place? They'd been talking on the phone for 6 months so maybe it was via one of those late night 'find girls in your area' chat line advert things they probably don't have any more!

I guess it wouldn't work the same way now as everyone has smart phones so would have seen pictures of each other from day 1, especially if they met via today's equivalent online dating!

CMOTDibbler · 10/01/2019 08:00

Duggees, it was through work. Stacey was working for a company that supplied something to Gavins company. They knew what each other looked like before they met as they'd exchanged photos - there is one on Staceys bedside table

twosoups1972 · 10/01/2019 08:01

It was a work connection I think dugees

DisposableNN · 10/01/2019 08:17

They met and started chatting because of work didn't they?
I only discovered G & S over Christmas Shock have watched it repeatedly since. Bloody love it.
Love this thread too!
I now wake my daughter every morning with "oh oh oh what's occurring?" Grin

DuggeesWooOOooggle · 10/01/2019 10:45

Ahh that makes sense although is that explained in the programme? Don't recall ever seeing it mentioned!

CMOTDibbler · 10/01/2019 10:50

Right at the beginning of the first episode

glamorousgrandmother · 10/01/2019 11:03

They had been talking over the phone due to work. In the first episode they meet up in London, each bringing a friend in tow (sensible ) (smithy and nessa maybe not). The boys were surprised that the girls were up for sex straight away and had booked a room. Smithy and Nessa spent the night in the bathroom - there were references to an unusual use of a bog brush!

twosoups1972 · 10/01/2019 11:07

the toilet brush - 'is it a Welsh thing?' Grin

Theromanempire · 10/01/2019 12:46

Having binge watched all 3 series over the last week, one thing I have noticed is that there are lots of subtle clues throughout that Smithy and Nessa were, in fact, extremely compatible (despite their protestations that they hated each other) such as the one on the beach where they both asked for Irn Bru independently of each other (there are loads of others - mainly related to food Grin)

It was so well-written with all those tiny inferences that you often don't pick up on first time round.

What did make me laugh was when Gavin and Smithy were running down the hospital corridor when Nessa was in labour and the 'wet floor' sign was there and they both slipped at the same time - I do wonder how many takes it took to get the timing so perfect. Absolute comic genius Smile

LuckyLou7 · 10/01/2019 12:53

I can watch it over and over and over again and notice something different every single time. Every episode is a joy. James Corden and Ruth Jones are superbly talented writers - and actors. No-one else could have played Smithy and Nessa.
