Can you believe we are on thread 50! This is for all discussions on the BBC series Our Girl and any possible future series. Reference to Captain James is particularly welcome.

See there's a new chapter of Ghosts - interesting!

Happy new year everyone. Yes I’m still around and occasionally looking in. Had a difficult year 2018 health wise so here’s hoping for a better 2019. Best wishes to you all I haven’t forgotten you. I’m still 100 percent BA And hate th

Flowerfan · 01/01/2019 09:04

(Fat fingers) the character assassination of the last series. Still hoping for another one with CJ back to his old self. Unfortunately the more time that passes I think it’s more unlikely. So will have to hope he gets other roles preferably BBC as my technology knowledge hasn’t improved much. Anyway ‘bye for now here’s to a good 2019 👍and👀for BA/CJ👏

Happy New Year everyone! I hope 2019 proves a happy and healthy one for all.

Much as it would be great to hear of another OG series - although only if it resolved some of the 'issues' we have with the last series - it strikes me that with our planned new foray in 'Soldier, Soldier' we may have hit on a new formula for our thread which could definitely keep us going for the next 5 years plus - our version of a book club, only ours will be old TV series. That could keep us going forever! Perhaps we need a new snappy name although I've always liked 'The CJ Addicts'. Any suggestions welcome.

Ilovelblue · 01/01/2019 20:03

Hi all.

I was responding on the previous thread but since we are all on here, I'll close the last one off now.

I've watched the first episode of "Soldier Soldier" tonight. It did make me laugh - it's very dated!

I have this vague recollection that I had a crush on one of the officers in the series, but there's nobody so far who I seem to remember (other than Robson and Jerome of course). Maybe it was somebody in a later series.

I do however recognise a couple of characters who far more recently have appeared in Holby City or Casualty. I found this in a quick Google search which may amuse you (or not).

Well, having watched the first DVD (4 episodes), I am hooked again after all these years. I can't really think I'm going to have anything intelligent to say about it but it has kept me amused for a few hours!

Rhubarb01 · 01/01/2019 22:18

Glad it's having that effect ilove. I reckon it's best viewed as a period piece. We may enjoy the watchalongs for the wrong reasons. The hair, clothes, cars and mobile phones - or lack of them - may have changed but at least the relationships and characters are as good as ever. I reckon there are many actors who were in 'Soldier, Soldier' so that could be another interesting challenge. It's a bit like Taggart - apparently every Scottish actor has had a part in it at some point in their career.

Actually, some of the issues in (I want to abbreviate Soldier, Soldier but the obvious one is a bit unfortunate) the programme are pertinent for the era when the army underwent restructuring and they merged regiments and disbanded some altogether, so I believe it was accurate from that point of view.

Ilovelblue · 01/01/2019 22:59

Rhu I was thinking the same thoughts to be honest. I won't say too much as it is best to be kept for the watchalong, but there are references to defence cuts and regiments being merged and it made me think of the writers throwing something topical into the drama. A bit like TG and his child trafficking (oh how we miss Thara/Fara - not), the problems in Bangladesh with the Rohingya refugees etc.

Pretty frosty here tonight - seasonal I guess - and at least I'm not having to scrape ice from the windscreen to go to work any more!

Flower sorry to hear of your health problems but nice to see your name pop up. Hope 2019 is better for you.

Nice to see you on here again FLOWER and I do hope 2019 will prove a better year for you health wise. Like you I'm still a BA devotee but not anticipating OG with him in it so will be keeping eyes peeled for his ongoing career and hoping I can find programmes he's in somewhere on TV or IPad.

RHU and ILove I Think this Soldier Soldier idea is going to work well for me as I have just watched the first episode and it is certainly a journey down memory lane. I'm meaning that as it is a good exercise for the old brain as I spent quite a bit of time working out the names of some of the actors, and then went on to taxing myself with remembering what I'd seen them in before! Worked well as I got most of them in that episode anyway.

From an analysis point of view I shall follow your comments at the watchalongs and I am sure will enjoy that too. So all in all as you say RHU this could work out well and last for years with all sorts of different TV series.

kazzaD66 · 02/01/2019 11:18

Happy New Year everyone!
I don't think there'll be another OG series (and if CJ is with she who will remain unnamed, either on or off screen, then I don't want another!) but at least there's some fantastic OG ff at the moment to keep us in the (mostly) happy CJ and Molly bubble! Especially loving Cages at the moment but lots of other great stuff, including itsembarrassing elsewhere - now, if only Jenmc could be persuaded to start writing again......Smile

Magi84 · 02/01/2019 11:46

Hi Kazza happy new year.

I was interested in you mentioning Itsembarrassing ff as I love her stories. When she decided to take them down she did mention if anyone really was interested they could PM her an get a link. I did that (or think I did, because I actually found the whole thing slightly complicated and wasn't 100 per cent sure I'd succeeded) but didn't receive a reply. So from what you say such a link does exist and I'm now wondering how best do go about getting it. Any suggestions please.

Magi84 · 02/01/2019 13:29

Have now been lucky enough to receive a PM with the details I needed so thank you to you Kazza for happening to mention the fanfiction.

Ilovelblue · 02/01/2019 14:30

OOOOOH Itsembarrassing - are they still the OG ff or something else?

OP posts:
kazzaD66 · 02/01/2019 14:38

Glad to be of service magi Grin
ilove elsewhere. You need to PM itsembarrassing to get the link (I had to create an account to do that as I'd only ever read and reviewed as a guest on the ff site).

Ilovelblue · 03/01/2019 21:28

Rhu and eejit what are you doing to me! I have now binge watched the final 3 episodes of Soldier Soldier. Episode 5 has been particularly good - TG could have learned something from that.

I struggled right through this episode trying to place one of the actors. I knew his face and knew he was in something I watch now but it wouldn't come to me. I had to wait until the cast list at the end then Google him. He's a porter in Holby City!

Kazza sorry to be a bit dim but are the stories from Itsembarrassing still OG related with CJ and Molly or something entirely different?

OP posts:
Magi84 · 03/01/2019 21:32

ILove the stories from Itsembarrassing are continuation of her latest two OG stories which she took down. Couple of new chapters.

kazzaD66 · 03/01/2019 21:58

ilove aswell as a couple of new chapters for an existing story, there is the start of a new story plus some of the older finished ones - which, I have to confess, I have reread many times Grin

Ilovelblue · 05/01/2019 23:54

I am officially addicted to Soldier Soldier.... and have just bought the 2nd DVD on eBay!

OP posts:
Rhubarb01 · 06/01/2019 01:09

Ha! ha! ilove - this is a very late post from me because I have been sat here watching an episode of Soldier,Soldier as well but only episode 4 of the first series (not may favourite one). I have started to store up little things in my head for the watchalongs but will keep it zipped until we get started properly.

I like series 2 for the locations and additions of some new characters which add something to it. They certainly didn't spare any expense on extras and location shooting when they made these.

Magi84 · 06/01/2019 06:16

Can't believe it but I too am what you might call addicted to Soldier Soldier and am in fact now on episode 4 of series two! Am watching it on UK/TV app which is all well and good but the interruptions from adverts are annoying!

Really have to cut down on it though as there are seven series. Enjoy identifying all the different actors. Will certainly be following you on the watchalongs as there is plenty of scope for comments and comparisons.

Ilovelblue · 06/01/2019 11:10

Re the adverts, each DVD episode is in 4 parts with the adverts cut out. If your version Rhu has adverts, our watchalong might be disjointed. Let me know as I will have to pause my DVD.

Agree that epsode 4 is a bit drawn out and boring.

Hi ladies. Keeping the subject of a military nature, is anyone watching the start of the series on Channel 5 called Raw Recruits - 16 year olds joining the army? It certainly wouldn't have been something I could have done at that age (or any age really).

OP posts:
eejittwo · 07/01/2019 23:01

Just saw the trailer, ilove, and something about it reminded me of Molly.

Ilovelblue · 07/01/2019 23:17

It's been very good - and yes, I thought of Molly. There is even a Two Section as well!

Just watched the first episode on UKTV - music is remarkable reminiscent of SHARPE; must be the time it was done. Yeah, I think it could be good fun watchalonging to this.
