Can you believe we are on thread 50! This is for all discussions on the BBC series Our Girl and any possible future series. Reference to Captain James is particularly welcome.

Hi ladies - I do always keep an eye on your threads but don't contribute very often any more. However I do remember Rome, eejittwo. I cant answer your question about Cleopatra I'm afraid, I don't remember things in sufficient detail. I did watch avidly at the time though as one of the main actresses (played Attia of the Julii) was someone I had been at school with, and at the time this was being filmed her daughter and my son were best friends at nursery school (200 miles from where we had been at school so small world!). She was spending a lot of time on planes if I remember correctly!

I'm not sure I would have watched it so avidly otherwise!

Just watched series 1 of Fleabag again prior to watching series 2 and had forgotten how much BA was in it. Most enjoyable!

Rhubarb01 · 02/04/2019 16:33

Afternoon ladies! Are we on for our next watchalong tonight? I quite like this next episode!

eejit I vaguely remember the series 'Rome'. Is that the one with James Purefoy as a centurion who falls for a slave girl, amongst many other stories? That's the only bit I can recall.

I'm enjoying this series of Fleabag. PWB really has tapped into something with this. I don't quite know what it is, in many ways you ought to really dislike her character (I always assume that Fleabag is a nickname she was given as a child - Fleabag/Phoebe - you never get told what her real name is do you? No other character ever calls her by her name), but you are rooting for her too, despite one or two things she has done. I did see the very, very, very brief appearance of BA in episode 1, but am enjoying the priest storyline, although I feel sorry for him too, as she is effectively ruining his life. See, despite it, you still root for her - that's clever!

ilove we will definitely need a new thread. Not sure what to call it although it's going to be thread 51. Given, how much we hated the storyline of the last series and episode 8 in particular - saw THAT moment again the other day and I'm still seething - and the fact that we are unlikely to see CJ again Sad perhaps we should refer to our new thread as the CJ Addicts Rehab Thread - actually, we are just transferring our addition to Soldier, Soldier, but we don't need to mention that. Food for thought! Hopefully, see you all tonight, so to speak!

Rhubarb01 · 02/04/2019 16:35

I meant to say addiction but addition is a fair enough description of what we are doing Grin

eejittwo · 02/04/2019 19:25

Rhu - like the rehab idea. See you later tonight.
I may have mentioned that I've been watching Bergerac on UKTV. It's been very interesting, comparing it with current cop shows - even dear old Midsomer Murders. There's actually very little made of murder in Bergerac as such - a lot of the deaths are colla'eral (as Elvis would say), or are otherwise not the main driver of the story, whereas I sometimes get the impression with modern crime fiction that the whole purpose of the story is to go into the gruesomer and gorier details.

eejittwo · 02/04/2019 19:31

Tsk! Tsk! Rhu - how could you! I've just checked - James Purefoy was MARK ANTONY not just any old centurion. Probably fell for a slave girl too but I think that was really Kevin McKidd as Lucius Vorenus you are thinking of.
Since I've looked up the cast list, Ciaran Hinds was Julius Caesar Can't find out who was Cleopatra, though.

Just done thread 51 for us.

eejit I think it was a different series, on TV earlier than Rome, maybe back in the 80's. I can't remember what it was called. It's like one of those threads people start on here asking who can remember the name of a TV programme.

Rhubarb01 · 02/04/2019 20:53

ilove thanks for the new thread. It sounds a bit like we're renaming in protest - a bit like one of those government petitions. I would love to see someone propose a petition for debate on whether CJ and Molly should get back together - after all Deirdre Barlow once got a mention in parliament - Free the Weatherfield One!

eejittwo · 02/04/2019 20:57

Episode 5 isn't it?

Ilovelblue · 02/04/2019 20:58

Oh why not Rhu. It would make a change from Brexit!

Have to confess here by the way that Fleabag series 2 isn't doing it for me in the same way that the first series did. Zoe Ball was praising it this morning, but I'm just not feeling the love.

Ready to go?

Rhubarb01 · 02/04/2019 21:00

Yes episode 5 - 'Saving Face' - pressing play now!

Rhubarb01 · 02/04/2019 21:01

Looks a bit like Goonhilly Down!

Ilovelblue · 02/04/2019 21:01

Major Bob isn't really as you imagine an officer, is he?

OP posts:
Rhubarb01 · 02/04/2019 21:02

Ooh, is Alex asking Kate on a date?

eejittwo · 02/04/2019 21:02

Up on the frontier.

Rhubarb01 · 02/04/2019 21:03

Well, the Colonel just said that Bob came up through the ranks, I suppose it shows in the way he wants to get stuck in with the lads.

Ilovelblue · 02/04/2019 21:03

I can understand what the major sees in his girlfriend but not vice versa, sorry!

OP posts:
Rhubarb01 · 02/04/2019 21:04

Well, it's a view if you like tower blocks, I suppose. I wonder what she sees in him? It's a bit unlikely.

Rhubarb01 · 02/04/2019 21:04

Snap, here we go again ilove

eejittwo · 02/04/2019 21:05

Obviously up on the Peak.

Ilovelblue · 02/04/2019 21:05

... it's clearly not his money Rhu as he is claiming not to have any really.

Lt Pereira is very suave. Kate looks pretty. She had definitely aged when she was in Doctors last week.

Rhubarb01 · 02/04/2019 21:06

Gosh, this is all very 90's 'Capital City' territory isn't it. Anyone remember that

Alex has just fibbed about the backing out, hasn't he?
