A new adventure awaits us in the New World. It's going to be savage!

I think you're right, that she doesn't see it. It's quite funny really because the parallels between the highland clearances and the infringing on the lands of Native Americans are uncanny.

JuneFromBethesda · 30/11/2018 22:10

Oh lassies, I'm finding it all rather hard going. I'm halfway through episode 4 and not feeling it Sad In fact I've gone back to Season 1 to watch some of my favourite bits ... nothing beats Jamie in Season 1 ...

Lessstressedhemum · 01/12/2018 09:33

Season 1 Jamie is only rivalled by season 3 Jamie.

I have really got into this season now, but I don't think anything will be as good as season one for me. I miss Scotland, and the whole idea was so new is season one. I will keep watching and will still enjoy, but I try not to compare withS1 too much.

Can't wait for Brianna and Roger to travel back. Don't think we will see that this week though

JennyfromtheBroch · 01/12/2018 18:53

Season 1 Jamie is also my favourite, with an honourable mention for Jamie-in-a-Tricorn from Season 3.

I just feel it's all a bit meh this season- the CGI is crap, the wigs are dreadful, some of the dialogue seems a bit clunky, and I'm here for Jamie and Claire really. I'm not into Bree or Roger.

I confess that sometimes I lurk on Tumblr Blush and I saw this post. I would have liked to have seen this use of dialogue over what we did get.

I've been on these threads for the last few seasons and I have to agree with @JuneFromBethesda I'm not feeling this season at all. I gave up halfway through the third episode (I can't quite believe I did either, because my love for Season 1 was immense but I finally think my Outlander love affair is over).

I think because Jamie and Claire's relationship was at the heart of S1, that's what kept me engaged. As it's continued, the focus has shifted to stuff I just don't care about. It feels disjointed as they have to cram in all the stuff to keep fans of the books happy and I'm not really sure it translates well to the screen.

I feel a bit sad tbh, but I just can't get into it. I can't see me rewatching any of the episodes from S2 onwards.

pisspawpatrol · 02/12/2018 16:53

Lassies... I think the Sexy Tri-corn is back.

Courtney I enjoy the later books, but the feel of them is quite different from the first book. I still don't think I can forgive DG for separating Jamie and Claire for 20yrs. It does mean that they have a very passionate relationship into later life, as they missed so much, but the will they won't they element has gone. However, I do like the whole Fraser's Ridge and the community they set up, looking forward to seeing that on screen. I'm sure in an interview the producers said they were going for more of an ensemble cast storyline now. Looking forward to today's episode.

snozzlemaid · 03/12/2018 09:29

Oh my! I've just watched 405 and feel emotionally rung out as I did with S1 at times.
I cried when Jamie met Murtagh and his whistling on his approach to Claire was pure genius.
It's so good to have an original character back.
This is undoubtedly my favourite episode so far this season.
Looking forward to the Brianna storyline now as well.

mateysmum · 03/12/2018 10:43

Murtagh Returns!!!!!

Not watched it yet. Saving it for later when I have peace and quiet. Looking forward to lots of emotional wringing. It has been a bit lacking so far this season.

crumpet · 03/12/2018 11:10

I’m boring myself now - every episode this season has been better than the one before, and this one was a stonker. I really hope that as Fraser’s Ridge develops the ensemble mentioned above materialises - the sense of community and shared history in Scotland was fabulous and I am hoping they can capture some of that depth now in North Carolina.

crumpet · 03/12/2018 11:11

I also wonder whether the highlander Willie, who married and went to the colonies, might turn up at some point

quirkychick · 03/12/2018 12:03

MURTAGH!!!!

I feel emotionally wrung out too snozzlemaid! There may have been some tears both of happiness and sadness. I loved the Craig na Dun music at the end, it feels more like a return to the spirit of S1. I may have to watch the last 2 episodes again, back to back Grin. crumpet you're not boring me, I feel the same, it gets better with each episode. I wonder if the old watch an episode each week means it takes a while to get back into it, I know previous seasons have really benefitted from binge watching (that's my excuse, anyway).

pisspawpatrol · 03/12/2018 12:45

Definitely better this week. So happy to see Murtagh! The old gang back together again, can only get better when Fergus returns too.

SenecaFalls · 03/12/2018 16:09

Loved, loved the look on Murtagh's face as he recognizes Jamie's voice.

CourtneyLoveIsMySpiritAnimall · 03/12/2018 16:36

I take it back, I loved this episode. They should throw the books out now and go off script (I am, of course, joking. All the mad, menopausal book fans who think the novels are akin to the bible would never stand for that. I wonder how the return of Murtagh is going down with them, btw, seeing as they can't stand when things are added/taken out normally).

SenecaFalls · 03/12/2018 16:44

Well, I am post-menopausal, and I am fine with Murtagh coming back.

No need for the ageism, thank you very much.

CourtneyLoveIsMySpiritAnimall · 03/12/2018 16:57

I apologise for the ageism, but you have to admit that there a lot of women of a certain age who go bonkers over this stuff.

I've even noticed on tumblr that there a few who are old enough to know better who have been giving Sam's ex-'girlfriend' a load of grief. Admittedly, there are also some younger ones but the worst abuse I've see has come from older women (I'm talking 50 plus). Ditto Twitter.

Florabella · 03/12/2018 16:59

How early can I send the kids to bed tonight so I get peace to watch this?? Can't wait to see Murtagh reunion

BreakfastAtSquiffanys · 03/12/2018 17:09

I knew Murtagh was returning (worst kept secret ever) but only recognised him because they pointedly kept his face hidden, so I knew the bloke with his back to us must be him.
Didn't recognise his face!

I loved Claire's wrist warmers (knitted and fur)

But the cabin was far too well made and furnished.
Perfect leaded windows, far too many bits and bobs. You would have just enough plates and no more

snozzlemaid · 03/12/2018 17:12

So, so good to see those wonderfully animated eyebrows again. And that twinkle in his eye. I think I'm a bit in love with Murtagh. Blush
Can't wait to see it again later with dp.
The show writers made the right call not killing him off. Duncan Lacroix has made him such a great part of the show. I think it's the link back to S1 that makes it so exciting to see him again.

blibblibs · 03/12/2018 17:31

Oh, I'm really looking forward to tonight's episode.
Considering it deviates from the book so much the comments on HH have been very positive. I wish I could stay away from that page but I just can't seem to help myself!

JennyfromtheBroch · 03/12/2018 20:17

I thought this too. Jamie truly is the king of men, there is not a thing he cannot make perfectly apparently Grin

Mind you, it looks so cosy and Pioneer-Barbie. I loved their bed by the window.

Murtagh, the white sow and Clarence, what more can you ask for. Loved Claire trying to tell the white sow she was a pork chop Grin

What did we all think of Jamie going off gallivanting and leaving Claire to mind the homestead?

Mrs Mueller was very creepy Shock

LonelyOversharer · 03/12/2018 20:31

Fan bloody tastic! I almost didn't watch this episode!!

Only point - how hard did they have to try to make RR look unappealing! That hat and his sour little look! No wonder Bree pissed off to see her mum. That bit was done very well I think. Great episode next week surely, Lallybroch??

Creepy creepy in the cabin, I'm so glad they gave her Rollo to keep watch. Her wig is awful just now. Like an 80's shop mannequin.

But I loved that episode! Knew Murtagh would be there somewhere, but guessed the second Ian set foot in the Blacksmiths. Twisty having them on opposite sides too.

BreakfastAtSquiffanys · 03/12/2018 21:36

I think Rollo must be related to Lassie, since he can tell (and bark!) the difference between people approaching who are threats and friends who are no threat.
