Den of Geek had a good article about the Easter eggs in the modern/dream sequence (on my phone, so can't link). For instance, Claire's red dress is like her statement dress in Versailles, the orange that she take after visiting King Louis, Jamie wrapping her in tartan. Ian's uniform has elements of Indian culture.

I'm going to have to rewatch this Season, as most of it I've had to watch in bits with dcs at home.

That awas a fabulous final episode.

I did like the scenes in Claires head of the 60s build house and modern day family.

I haven't quite processed it all yet so will think about it for a while. Maybe I should read the books.

I thought it was excellent. Very compelling. I missed the drums though. They would have been a great thing to hear/see.

Maybe I need to rewatch because I found that finale distinctly meh. There’s been other episodes that have had so much packed in and glossed over that I kind of felt myself resenting so much time being spent in a jumbled fantasy (of 50 years ago to us, not modern, you lot ). Also really disappointing that they introduce another time traveller, just for them to kill him off 2 minutes later with no further explanation or exploration of what’s going on there. I guess there are a few others she might yet meet.
And yeah, rape, again again. Yes it is common and times were brutal, but the fact that we’ve been through 2 rape storylines already obviously lessens the impact.

It was ok, I just want more story, more development, more exploration of the world and the mechanics of it all.

I think my problem is that I’m just really not that invested in Claire and Jamie any more.... yes it’s lovely that they love each other, that’s really nice but lots of people love each other. Fergus and Marsali love each other but we never get to see much of their lives. But we see Claire’s boobs every other scene as her and Jamie shag artfully, again. They’re in their happily ever after now, I want something else!

Oh and how is Marsali already massively pregnant again, she gave birth in the woods like 2 episodes ago?

Sorry for the whinge. Just was so underwhelmed. And still disturbed by the wank resuscitation to be honest, that really killed the romance of Claire & Jamie for me.

Opthalmos, have you read the books? The show has been criticised for deviating from the books for example not showing Jamie at Jemmy's birth etc. In season 5 they tried to stick with the books as much as they could (had to get rid if Murtagh). So Claire is kidnapped and raped in the book, what did you want them to show? Her experience was an integral part of book 6 , so could not have been left out. Unless you prefer she was just brutally beaten up which is also horrific. Some actors also like to play difficult scenes as if gets them award nominations or gives them an opportunity to show their skills which in turn helps them secure future roles. I have read Caitriona's interview of that episode and as producer, she pushed for the rape story.
As for the love story, the show attracted viewers because of the chemistry between the 2 leads. It is reasonable that they show their love more. The books portray their love so well, its what keeps them grounded with all they face. Fans were critical of season 4 as there were a number of episodes where Jamie and Claire were not together in the same place. In season 5 they addressed this.

Not got time for the books unfortunately. They do get criticised a lot as they progress don’t they.

🤷🏻‍♀️ just giving my impression & opinion. Maybe not having the rape/kidnap as the essentially the pinnacle of the season, dominating the finale? What works in books doesn’t always work in tv episodes, they probably should be quite different; and being directed by the more obsessive fans doesn’t always make for the best tv either. The show does heavily rely on you being very, very invested in them as a couple to the exclusion of all else - which worked well earlier on. Like I said now they’re in their ever-after. It’s samey. We know they love each other. It’s not like Jamie’s going to turn around and say “och Sassenach, actually I bin cheating on ye wi’ Betty-Sue from o’er creek” (now that would be an unexpected dramatic narrative twist!). Personally I think it would work better if their love became the backdrop rather than the focus and the next generations chacaters & storylines were developed more, like a family saga. You could do a lot with Roger & Bree, Marsali & Fergus, Ian &.....Rollo.....

Glad the second Indian time traveller isn’t dead, I thought he was in the lineup when they “killed them all”, the poor black guy that tried to help her was. Didn’t Jamie say “well he’s gone now” when they were talking about him.

I enjoy Outlander a lot usually. That episode just didn’t work for me as a season finale. Didn’t get that many questions answered, didn’t fire me up for the next season. Just kinda.....wallowed in itself.

Betty-Sue from o'er the creek. That made me laugh so much.

They do grow into a more generational thing in the later books. Jamie and Claire remain the backbone of the saga but take a big step back, especially in 7 and 8. Sadly a lot of the generational stuff is a bit rubbish.

I was hoping that they had replaced Malva with Marsaili, tbh, but I suppose that they couldn't do that without changing the story a lot.

Wow what a powerful episode. I could barely watch the scenes with Claire being assaulted. So traumatic but realistic.

I thought that last episode was perfect, I thought catriona’s acting was superb, and was so pleased that Marsali took action!

Ah I normally love outlander but it's really irritating me that after Jamie's rape he was suffering so much it took him a long time to be able to sleep with Claire again. Yet she was back in the sack twenty minutes later.

Likewise far more screen time was given to roger recovering from his hanging than bree recovering from her rape.

I'm not really sure what I'm trying to say just they seem to dwell on the men's suffering but the women just have to get on with it.

On a separate note, Marsali is fast becoming one of my favourite characters. I'd love to see more screen time for her and Fergus.

I guess we will never know what they did seeing as they didn't show it but it was not long in the book. But here Jamie rode to Brownsville - 3 dyas there and three days back (if ehat Tebbe told Claire was correct). Bit odd he left her for that long though In the book she went with him.

I wished the scene where he told her he felt like he needs to kill someone (didnt he do that already?!!) Was a bit longer - seemed oddly chopped dialogue that came out of nowhere (what did you cut??) I wanted to hear some more reassurance etc from him straight after - I love it where he is always declaring undying love he does it so well

The reaction of the Boys from da Ridge moseying on in and slaughtering left right and centre does have the effect of focusing attention on the men’s offence at their woman being dishonoured, rather than looking more at Claire’s own response, or even her wishes on what the appropriate punishment should be. She is still in immediate post traumatic shock whilst the blokes are basically making it all about them. Disappointing especially from a female writer, but fairly standard I guess. ‘Twas ever thus.

I think she was quoting me, I’d thought they’d killed him off because Jamie said “he’s gone now” or something similar - I was confused clearly. Probably because when watching that I was kinda annoyed at them all coming in like a wrecking ball wreaking vengeance on Claire’s behalf whilst she was still too traumatised to speak properly to express what her own wishes actually were.

Lol I’m still annoyed now it’s funny how a tv series can get to your emotions like that.
