A new adventure awaits us in the New World. It's going to be savage!

The stars are never going to say in public that they don't want to do any more series. It would kill the magic.

The thing is, they may want to make more but the quality of the last 2/3 books just isn't up to the earlier ones. The pace is slower, there's so much going and froing both around America and back and forth through the stones. There's so many new, badly & barely formed characters. It would need a lot of re-writing and condensing and the storylines just aren't there anyway. You could get another series out of the last 3 books but I imagine DG would explode which is why no one edited the last 3 books Grin

I agree. The last couple of books need a really harsh and hard edit. They are far to wandering and have too many side plots with undeveloped characters. If they pick up 7 and 8, I think that they might diverge quite widely from the books but DG and the mad fangirls would likely spontaneously combust if that happened.

I'm already struggling with The Fiery Cross from a book point of view. They get more meandering??? Jesus H Roosevelt Christ!

I think that was where I gave up with the books, after being a fan since the 90s.

Fiery Cross was my favourite book after Outlander. I didn't like Drums. All the first half in France I found boring, the Series the same.
I loved all the gathering. All the funny bits and the setting up of the Ridge. Loved finding out about the day today life.
Found all the wandering g about in the Great Dismal and all William's inner turmoil tedious, but LJG and Germain l loved.
Think Series 6 will be the rest of book 6 and book 7 combined tho. Saratoga will be the big battle scene for that series the boat sinking the cliff hanger.

Fiery Cross is my favourite. I loved all the wee details and family stuff.
If they combine ABOSAA and Echo, they can cut a lot of the guff about William and what not. That would be good

@Lessstressedhemum I totally agree. Cant wait to see the season finale tomorrow. Want to know where Bree, Roger and Jemmy are. My guess is right back where they started
. 😁

I just watched the finale. Firstly may I say as a trigger warning. It is brutal and contains sexual violence.
It is heartbreaking. It is awful. And it is wonderful.
Kudos to the actors. Will be watching anything Lauren Lyle is in.
It will be a long time till season 6.

Agree Shosa - just watched it - so many call backs to earlier seasons - loved the scene by the river - are you ready to go home and your shaking so hard you're making my teeth rattle Sad

Agree Shoes. It was brutal but absolutely wonderful. Claire's dream, so many vivid symbols. Everyone being 20th century bar Jamie, still in his boots. The tenderness and the cold, hard violence.

I am a wreck. It's going to be a long wait.

I have watched it twice. Very heartbreaking but so good. I am glad we were spared the Jamie rape like scenes. The last scene was so intimate and healing. That was the real Claire and Jamie. In my opinion season 5 comes in second place to season one. I will be rewatching all of them throughout droughtlander , I might change my mind.

I found that really powerful. I don't think I have the words quite yet to write more.

AngeloMysterioso · 11/05/2020 13:42

Do you reckon they’ll let a single season go by without someone being raped?!

Report
Shosha1 · 11/05/2020 15:02

@AngeloMysterioso Unfortunately in that period of time, sexual violence was very common. It is not much better now. You just have to read threads on thus forum to know how common it is.

As a survivor I thought it was done with the upmost respect.

I hope all that have been through it have found their 'Safe'

As for the show. I have now watched it again. It was still beautiful.

They went there then. But I think they did it well, even though Jamie looked totally out of place in modern times.

But the rest of the episode was a bit meh to be honest. I want another series just because they can't end it there!

I'm a survivor to, Shosa of rape and more, and I thought they handled it very sensitively. Rape is an overused plot device in the books, tbh, but it was a time of great sexual danger and violence, all about a man's rights over women.

Given my lived experience, and that of so many others, I don't think much has changed.

I think Jamie was still C18th because he is her safe place and having him fit in with the C20th would have undermined that. Didn't the rest of them look good in modern dress and hair, though.

Wow, that was emotional. I was dreading watching it as I hated this storyline in the books, but thought they did it well (like Roger's ptsd). Go Marsali!

Maybe they will have Bree and Roger's daughter in the next season.

Phew! That was powerful stuff. Catriona was excellent.

Loved that they 'regressed' Jamie to almost his S1 to S3 incarnation. Loose hair, in his kilt, fighting for his sassenach. Sam always seems to gain extra swagger in that guise, as if it liberates him physically. That combined with his sensitivity and protectiveness of Claire was wonderful.

So pleased they got in the lines about Jamie's last words.

It's going to be a long droughtlander. Book 9 may be out before S6.

Wow really powerful, emotional episode.

I loved the men of Clan Fraser - Ian, Fergus and Roger all stepping up. Jamie running around in his tartan. It was all very S1. Marsali was freaking amazing.

I wasn't sure about the modern times bit. The house was fabulous and I loved seeing everyone in modern dress. They all sounded a bit weird in their speech though and I did not get the bit about Bree etc dying in a car crash. That said I liked it much more the black and white film in Roger's episode.

I thought the rape was well done. I do feel there is just too much of it in Outlander. I get the argument that it was a dangerous time, but it does feel like a bit of a plot device. I feel almost numb to it (Not quite as it is still shocking every time) and I don't want to feel that way. Sorry if I haven't explained that well.

I can't wait for the next season.

Shosha1 · 12/05/2020 06:57

I think the MaKenzies dying bit was suppose to portray that they had gone through the stones and Claire would never see them again, as in for her they were dead.

Report
Lessstressedhemum · 12/05/2020 10:10

I think to that it calls back to Brianna telling Roger that Jem would never die in a car crash in the C18th. So much of the episode drew on past events and dialogue.

I thought Jamie was very brave going alone to the Browns - the self control there was chilling. But wished he'd been a little bit less in control of his anger - I do miss seeing the physical emotion he had in series 1 like at the riverside and in First wife.

But yes back in a kilt he did have some of hia swagger back which is always good to see Wink

I love a bit of swaggering Jamie 😍 I think it's a sign of how much he has grown that he doesn't have the outbreaks of anger that he once did. Cold fury suits the man he's become. He's had to learn control over the years and through all the horrific stuff he's endured, now it's serving him well.

I think I may have thought about all this a bit too much, given that he's a fictional character.

Hahaha lessstressed you are not alone (there's at least the two of us and I suspect a lot more!) My guilty pleasure Wink

I had high hopes at the start of the stable scene where he swaggered in and said 'I've been looking for ya' and then it all went a bit comic parody completely ruining the vibe Angry I felt so cheated

I get that the control and cold fury has its attractions and place but there is a naughty pleasure in jolting such a person out of it Blush

Must stop this day dreaming and go finish my marking ...
