A new adventure awaits us in the New World. It's going to be savage!

They guy at the beginning was Otter tooth, we was wearing the necklace.
I definitely didn't enjoy this series so much so droughtlander will be easier this time but I am looking forward to the next book.
I follow Diana on fb and on Monday she had the birth scene as her daily lines so I'm guessing she wasn't overly happy about it being missed out either.

crumpet · 29/01/2019 18:07

The Otter Tooth storyline reappears in book 6, so perhaps that’s why they wanted to embed it here

GrungeSponge · 29/01/2019 19:33

So is that just the last we see of Ian?

"Thanks for the memories lad, I will write to your Mum and tell her your a savage now?"

Really?

blibblibs · 29/01/2019 19:40

Ian plays a big part in the following books but if I remember rightly not so much in book 5. But he should be back.

Grilledkippers · 30/01/2019 00:16

I haven't read the books but I'm enjoying this series. I know they have their own personal plots/sub plots going on - but I'm constantly irked by the scenes at Aunt Jocasta's. They all seem to slip into a comfortable existence luxuriating on a slave plantation. I know Claire had some niggles at the start - but it really jars. Is this touched upon with any weight in the future?

Lessstressedhemum · 30/01/2019 08:33

The slave issue is dealt with a lot in the books. There are some big storyline involving Jamie, Claire and Brianna that involve their attitudes to slavery.

The Ottertooth storyline is important for setting up later things, so I suppose that's why so much time was spent on it. Tbh, some of what it sets up is a load of guff and everyone could have done without it.

Oh I like Roger, but probably because I love RR. Honestly you lot.......Brianna thought he was dead, I’d have kissed him even if he was a bit smelly.

Can someone tell me ...are the interiors filmed in Scotland too not US?

I really loved the scene when Roger and Jamie fought and kind of ended up hugging. They’re v different men but both good guys. Both quite feisty. Roger is a lot better in the show.

Re Ian, I did cheer when he came back in the books.....was v sad when he left.

quirkychick · 31/01/2019 08:51

Lessstressed here's to hoping the show runners improve some of the load of guff with the Otter Tooth storyline!

I also liked the contrast of Ian and Roger running the gauntlet, I know that there's quite a bit to show how challenging Roger finds living in the 1770s. He's supposed to be an academic, not used to the frontier life. Brianna only copes because Frank took her on holidays in the mountains, taught her to use a gun etc. (I totally agree that DG does not do this well and it feels like an add on, rather than something embedded in the story).

I'm hoping the Murtagh and Jocasta storyline is an improvement on the Duncan, Phaedre, Jocasta, Ulysses plot in the books. Which is all a bit ew, frankly.

Lessstressedhemum · 31/01/2019 10:01

I know, quirky. That all gave me the book, tbh. A beautiful young woman like Paedre would not make advances to an old duffer like Duncan. And she would doubly not do it when she was a slave because of the possible repercussions.
Some of DG's plotlines are not well thought through. Like Roger having every disadvantage in the book - I'm talking about you no depth perception!

I know this is a fundamental part of the books but I wish we could have spent more time with Jamie and Clare when they were younger. It's a shame we skipped through so much of their life. I do like Brianna actually but would have preferred her later in the story.

Possibly it's the awful wigs that are influencing me here!

endofthelinefinally · 31/01/2019 13:26

Claire's wig is dreadful. You would think they could have afforded something better.

Macaroonmayhem · 31/01/2019 21:06

DryWhite I think they do the interiors at Wardpark Studios in Cumbernauld. Every time I drive past en route to Glasgow I have a little giggle that it’s all happening right there, just beside the motorway!

DryWhiteagainW · 01/02/2019 21:24

Oh so pleased that it’s all filmed in Scotland

PersonaNonGarter · 12/02/2019 22:48

Just finished Season 4 - I loved it. I thought it hit its stride with the pace of the story.

But, honestly, who would trade the amazing Young Ian for Roger? That’s crap. Ian is totally quality.

Thrilled about Jocasta and Murtagh tho. And I hope they remember to use Lizzie a bit more too.

LadyJohnGray · 16/02/2019 17:09

I've just re-watched season 4 and there are a couple of things annoying me. When they went to save Roger, they were a week behind them, but when they found the body, Claire said it had been there for at least a month. How did they get so far behind? Especially as the Mohawk had Roger walking so had to have been going slower than 3 people on horses in a hurry?!

Also, Brianna was 2-3mths pregnant when they left, baby was 2mths old when they returned. So it was roughly 4mths travel each way. At what point did they leave Roger? Surely they would've spent a lot of the journey discussing his options, yet they arrived without him and didn't know if he was coming. They couldn't have left him alone and injured in New York to find his own way to River Run, where he'd never been before?!

CoolCarrie · 05/03/2019 17:02

Sam is in Midsummer Murders at the moment!!

Giraffeski · 14/04/2019 17:24

This has really made me laugh- we stay in a timeshare in Kinloch Rannoch which is where they filmed some of the Scottish scenes, especially Series 1- they've refurbished our lodge and it looks like they ran out of art budget half way through- there's dodgy Outlander fan art on all the walls. Poorly painted canvasses sprinkled with glitter. I wasn't sure it was actually fan art until I noticed the 'Je Suis Prest' motto inscribed on one of them Grin

Applescoop · 14/04/2019 20:55

Pictures please- you must share the 'fun'!

Giraffeski · 16/04/2019 09:04

Here's one- the others are all in bedrooms so people still in them at the moment- there's a stonking one of Craig na Dun in my sisters room which I will try and sneak a picture of later!!!

Giraffeski · 16/04/2019 09:05

Sorry here

Applescoop · 16/04/2019 19:48

Thanks @Giraffeski. I'm not sure if I'm looking forward to seeing more- or not! Grin

Lessstressedhemum · 20/04/2019 10:17

Has everyone seen the pic of season 5? Jamie's wig is so much better, his hair is glorious.

mateysmum · 21/04/2019 09:12

TV was so desperately bad last night that I went back to series 1 on Amazon. Episode 7 "The Wedding" perked up my evening!

Sam's hair was glorious there too and pretty much everything else - and we saw quite a lot!

cushioncovers · 25/04/2019 12:06

Just finished watching this last series and I enjoyed the Bree and Roger storylines. It was getting a bit samey with just Claire and Jamie imo.

quirkychick · 04/05/2019 15:04

I came on to say it looks as if Jamie has a much better wig in Season 5. Perhaps it reflects his development into the laird.
