I have been binge watching this - all four seasons since just before Christmas.. go me.

So - Just seen episode 10 on season 4 . That's not the end is it?

What day is this on TV?

Aaargh - I may have to actually get a life now!

I did that with the entirely crap Lucifer. After about 30 episodes in one weekend I was half sure it was all real.

RL was so drab in comparison. No kilts or fallen angels. Just work and packed lunches.

Lessstressedhemum · 11/01/2019 22:34

Oh, God, I know. I love Lucifer. My life is so colourless no kilts, no sexy highlanders or devil's, no Saxon Vikings, nothing. Reality sucks!

Yes, the books are quite annoying. At least, some of the characters are. Claire, Brianna, Roger, I'm looking at you. None of them seem to take the circumstances of the time they are in seriously, or the consequences of their behaviour. And they seem to completely lose sight of who Jamie actually is. It burns my biscuits.

@legolimb Monday apparently!!! I also binge watched them.

@Lessstressedhemum does this mean I shouldn't bother buying and reading the books??

Lessstressedhemum · 11/01/2019 22:40

Oh no, I love them a very, very lot. I've read them loads of times. It's just that they are a bit mad and some of the behaviour annoys me. But it is worth ignoring that and at least it provokes a reaction.

Oh yes, it is on on Mondays on amazon. Outlander and Lucifer make my prime subscription worthwhile, although Lucifer has moved to Netflix.

@Lessstressedhemum the second part of the fifth series of Vikings is on Prime!

legolimb · 11/01/2019 23:44

Ah thanks wardrobe

I'll wait until Monday..

quirkychick · 12/01/2019 08:34

I haven't caught up with Vikings, yet. But it is not the same without Ragnar.

The Outlander books are definitely a bit mad Grin. The lurch from one insane happening to another. They are a very good, exciting read, but not perfect. I do think the show writers have done a good job of streamlining some of the more insane, ridiculous plots and have rounded out the characters.

Lessstressedhemum · 12/01/2019 09:09

Apple, I've only watched a little bit of Vikings, but I am very relieved Last Kingdom is on Netflix. I would have cried if Uhtred had disappeared.

I caught up with the Last Kingdom before Christmas, I like a bit of Uhtred Grin. Have you read the books, Lessstressed? I've read the first few, I think each Season is 2 books. Vikings is set a bit earlier, when they first start raiding England. I do like King Ecbert too.

Lessstressedhemum · 12/01/2019 10:07

I've read some of them, quirky, but not all of them yet. I love a bit of Bernard Cornwell and Uhtred is fine. He makes dirty look glorious.

I never had the impression that claire loses sight of who Jamie is. He exasperates her from time to time, but I don’t think there can be many examples where she ultimately doesn’t support him or his reasoning?

I’d like the series to capture a bit more of the playful (not sure that is quite the right word) lust between them. Not so much explicit sex scenes, but more the impression that one glance is all it takes to have them sneaking off to the wood shed!

gamerwidow · 12/01/2019 10:23

I love the books but it’s best not to take them too seriously. DG is very much winging it in terms of plot and she frequently forgets how the chronology is supposed to work but if you’re not too not picky then they are worth it for the interactions between the characters.
I could read about j and c pottering about at Frasers Ridge forever she understands these characters so well.

gamerwidow · 12/01/2019 10:25

P.s. book 1 is probably the tightest in terms of plot but the writing is very poor. Her prose has come a long way over the course of the series though so don’t let that put you off.

blibblibs · 12/01/2019 10:44

With my first read through the books I almost had a pencil out correcting all the mistakes, plot, grammar, spelling the lot. I did put some of it down to the editing process but alot of it was Diana.
On the second read through I enjoyed them for what they are and when I do a third read through I think I'll just highlight my favourite parts to save time 😁
I do think they've missed the chemistry between J&C this season and not just the sexy bits. And I would have loved to see more of the day to day goings on on Frasers Ridge but I get the time constraints of a 13 episode series. There's no sign of the big house yet and I'm sure they had it or had started it by the end of this book.

boatgirl81 · 12/01/2019 12:47

Going back to the Murtagh/Jocasta comment, they certainly seemed very warm towards each other so wouldn't be surprised if they got married. If they continue with all the gold storyline, Murtagh would also have some of the background to become take some of the Archie Bug role as well but he couldn't betray Jamie so not sure if that would work. It's just bugging me why they have kept him in the role when he was meant to have died years ago.

WardrobeInCrisis · 12/01/2019 12:53

I've bought the first book...

Will read it later ☺️

JennyfromtheBroch · 12/01/2019 13:38

I think Murtagh might be a sort of Duncan/Archie Bug crossover, hopefully without the betrayal Confused

I presume the writers have a plan because he seems most like Archie Bug but AB has a big role in later books with Willie and Ian.

I’d like the series to capture a bit more of the playful (not sure that is quite the right word) lust between them. Not so much explicit sex scenes, but more the impression that one glance is all it takes to have them sneaking off to the wood shed!

I have really, really missed this. I mean, Claire is supposed to have travelled in time to be with this man! I'm not looking for a replay of the wedding night but I feel like Claire and Jamie are the heart of the show and yet we've hardly seen them interact so far.

dischargepaperwork · 12/01/2019 17:32

Are there any other good series I could watch? The last kingdom is my recent attempt but it's boring so far.

sonjadog · 12/01/2019 20:36

I just watched last week's episode now. I found the whole fight thing with Brianna a bit passionless. Too much silent scowling. Also, Claire and Jamie has had some fantastic rows. Why was she so silent now?

crumpet · 12/01/2019 21:02

The thing is, I do love how settled Jamie and Claire have been this season: the tenderness, how relaxed they are in each other’s presence etc - it would be good to round out the other side of their relationship though. Maybe next season.

Florabella · 12/01/2019 21:46

Unfortunately I'm not convinced that The Fiery Cross is going to provide a great season for tv. I don't think that it will get beyond season 6. And I also think the actors will want to move on to other things.

PollyFlinderz · 13/01/2019 11:54

Was episode 10 the last of series 4.

blibblibs · 13/01/2019 12:03

No, there are 13 episodes this season, so three to go.
