A new adventure awaits us in the New World. It's going to be savage!

Sorry! As soon as the cabin was built I couldn't think of anything else....

Arkos · 05/01/2019 19:59

nope Claire definitely echoes Quinn's zealous self-righteousness and general interfering busy body. I used to majorly like Sully but I definitely prefer jamie 😁😍

wigglybeezer · 05/01/2019 21:32

Luckily I've never seen Dr Quinn!

Todayillbebetter · 05/01/2019 22:19

I watched them all as a teenager and had the serious horn for Sully. But Jamie Fraser wipes the floor with him now...

But Claire is the dirty half sister of Dr Quinn.

quirkychick · 06/01/2019 09:34

DG's characters are flawed, but not quite in the well-rounded way, sometimes. I think that has posed quite an issue for the writers and actors putting it on screen. I definitely think her characters are sacrificed to the (melo)drama of the plot. In the books Brianna is just very pig-headed and annoying but as readers we need to feel some sympathy for her, I can see that in the show. Roger just seems to have been a bit stupid, for a historian who should have known quite a bit about those times, leaving Brianna instead of escorting her back safely (I know it's different in the books).

One of the YouTube reviewers posed the question, who is a better time traveller, Claire, Brianna or Roger. I think some of the answers forgot that when Claire first came through the stones, she bumped straight into BJR and was only saved by Jamie, Dougal and his men. Claire was under a great deal of suspicion for being a spy, so it was more luck (and Jamie) that saved her than anything. Poor Roger and Brianna come from much safer times, I'm not sure they're worse time travellers.

wigglybeezer · 06/01/2019 17:24

I think I overlook the flawed main characters because I enjoy the sense of place, time, landscape and nature so much, I also think her minor characters are often good, maybe they are just allowed to be rather than having to drive the plot with dubious decisions ( similar problem with the writing on The Archers!). I find I'm more tolerant of the male characters foibles than the female, not sure what that says about me but I do live with DH and three DSs, all Scotsmen, two of them tall redheads, and one even called James so maybe that's it.

Macaroonmayhem · 07/01/2019 09:21

Just watched the new episode, I didn’t see that cliffhanger coming! The other xcitement for me in this episode is that I’m 99% certain I have trod the paths Roger is treading this week. Literally I mean - if it’s where I think, me and DH used to walk and cycle round there a lot.

quirkychick · 07/01/2019 11:31

I loved that early conversation between Brianna and Jamie, showing her she couldn't have fought him off, and then the argument: go Bree! I felt they showed the stubborn, fiery Fraser's well Grin. I feel it's definitely getting into it's stride with lots of emotional moments from one to the next. Murtagh's reunion with Jocasta was good. Great cliffhanger too.

quirkychick · 07/01/2019 11:32

Fraser's, obviously.

Arkos · 07/01/2019 11:52

I think they filmed most of this season at Dunkeld and just outside of Crieff

Macaroonmayhem · 07/01/2019 12:25

Last nights was a lot of Dunkeld I thought, all the tracks and trails above the car park for the Mill Dam walk. There’s one bit where it’s virtually the view up or down the A9! I know they were also filming in woods near Scone on the Blairgowrie road. Lots of woods required this season!,

Florabella · 07/01/2019 14:42

Oh, that's my neck of the woods (or was in my youth), so will have to watch closely tonight

FairfaxAikman · 07/01/2019 15:49

Huge chunks of it were filmed on the Abercairny estate.

quirkychick · 07/01/2019 17:26

Ah, new phone and predictive text! Frasers that should read.

The locations are very beautiful!

Myfanwyprice · 07/01/2019 18:06

I can’t bear that there are only 3 episodes left. Might have to rewatch from season 1!

I really enjoyed this episode, loved them all sitting round the table chatting, loved the confrontations and Murtagh meeting Jocasta.

dischargepaperwork · 07/01/2019 18:12

May I join?

Long term watcher but somehow just forgot mn does great threads so you can - - make ears bleed-- discuss finer plot points etc.

There'll never be another season one. And wtf is with the hair. Why does Jamie's have a fringe like a horse and why doesn't Claire deserve a parting. How can the show have such a budget and then make such a hash of the wigs.
And how have they made Roger look so plain, he's genuinely handsome.

I miss kilts and tartan. I know it was outlawed but if I were them, I'd rebel and wear a kilt everyday in the new world.

I don't see why aged parents can't swing from the pine trees like they did in their Highland going youth. I miss - - his backside - - what the sexual chemistry brought to the plot. Ahem.

Anyway. This season has suddenly fired up and I'm happy about it as it was tedious for a while. Possibly as I was waiting for the spark of season one and three that never came.

Might ponder a related name change. Haven't seen the new episode as yet, I'm a Monday night girl if I'm lucky.

JennyfromtheBroch · 07/01/2019 19:30

OOoooh that was a really good epi!

I wonder if Brianna slapping Jamie was in the script- SH looked genuinely surprised Grin I really liked the beginning scene where he proved it wasn't her fault (atrocious set of trousers aside). They have a really nice chemistry together.

I thought Claire was slightly out of character for not interrupting the fight between Brianna and Jamie though. She was very quiet all episode in fact.

Todayillbebetter · 07/01/2019 21:00

Just watched it...I liked it but Brianna was winding me up. Of course Jamie was mad and beat him up... she told Roger to go back to the future!
I miss the romance. The 'lay down my life for you' life and death decisions, fights and passion.

Humph.

quirkychick · 07/01/2019 21:07

Yy to Roger looking dodgy. RR is a good looking man, we have to believe Brianna really loves him, despite it being a stormy relationship with ridiculous arguments. I assume Claire and Jamie's wigs are to make them look old Grin. Perhaps Claire needs to concoct some 18th century anti-aging shampoo.

quirkychick · 07/01/2019 21:08

Blushstrike out fail.

WhoGivesADamnForAFlakeyBandit · 07/01/2019 21:31

If they want Jamie to look old they should stop hiding his receding hairline with that stupid fake fringe!

YY Roger looks podgy and needs a beard. How can he get kidnapped/live on a boat/get beaten up/etc and still be totally clean shaven?

Gth1234 · 07/01/2019 22:46

My wife has got into Outlander. loves it,. Is the theme you are talking about " The Skye Boat Song"?

GrungeSponge · 08/01/2019 00:54

So in season one was SH's Hobbity hair his own? I'd never clocked that he was receding before but I guess that does explain the bad fringe. Like PP said they should just leave it & go for a natural look.

Rog isn't going through the stones though is he?

snozzlemaid · 08/01/2019 03:42

The problem is SH now has short hair IRL so they have to use a wig. But it's not the same.

They've done exactly the same with Poldark. S1 had AT's own long hair that was bloody fantastic but now they use wigs and Ross's hair is terrible like Jamie's.

blibblibs · 08/01/2019 06:01

I think I'm going to have to stop watching with DH, he just takes the piss through out. I can't really blame him but it doesn't help.
I'm with you discharge I miss his arse. And his knees Grin
