A new adventure awaits us in the New World. It's going to be savage!

Right, this has been bothering me. I’m worried about baby Germain in E8 when Claire and J Visit Marseille and Fergus in Wilmington. He may be suffering from sleep apnea of something, concerned Claire didn’t notice and give him some herbs. In the scene Claire is holding G, he’s looking pretty alert, cut back and he’s out for the count (and looking like a doll), then cut back soon after and he’s all perky again!!!! Hmm

DryWhiteagainW · 03/01/2019 09:06

Marsli not Marseille

Holidayshopping · 03/01/2019 09:15

I wish Brianna had gone into detail around the table with Murtargh etc about falling and waking up in Leghair’s spare room!! I know none of it happened in the book but a few shrieks of ‘oooh!’ and ‘noooo!’ would have been brilliant!

Why oh why didn’t Jamie just stop for a second and ask Roger what his name was Sad! Mind you, he’s not one that’s known for keeping calm and not overreacting!

sonjadog · 03/01/2019 09:18

I thought Jamie´s stomp towards Roger was a bit over the top. It was a bit unnatural.

Todayillbebetter · 03/01/2019 09:48

He was so incandescent with rage though. Jamie's history means that rape is a crime that he loses all reason and thought over.

crumpet · 03/01/2019 14:38

I expect a factor in some of the knit wear choices were simply to keep the actors warm. I was distracted in the Jamie/Sophie reunion scene by their frosty breath.Didnt envy them filming in that weather.

SpikyHedgehogg · 03/01/2019 17:27

I found the unrelenting bad luck and hardship piled on Roger was a major factor in giving up on the books.

crumpet · 03/01/2019 17:29

I didn’t mind Roger so much in the books, but struggled with Brianna as I didn’t feel that her character had as much depth

BreakfastAtSquiffanys · 03/01/2019 18:07

Roger was looking at naked Brianna like a quarter pounder

"She's a bonny lass but just needs a bit o' cheese on thon breasts"

JennyfromtheBroch · 03/01/2019 18:33

Jamie's fringe is getting a bit Deirdre Barlow as well

Awwwww now I can't unsee it! Dammit! Grin

I think SS has got miles better this season and she seems to get on really well with SH. I just don't like Roger and Bree though and I can't abide the sex scenes.

sonjadog · 03/01/2019 19:42

The actors in the Roger and Bree sex scene looked liked they found it a bit awkward (understandably enough, I would hate to have to pretend to have sex in front of a film crew), which I think made the whole thing feel strange to watch. The Jamie and Claire sex scenes in season one were played a lot more naturally.

Lessstressedhemum · 03/01/2019 19:46

Poor Roger. DG hates him.

I think Jamie is just so blinded by rage over the rape that he has no control. Look at what happens when Claire is raped in book 6. "Kill them all" wasn't an empty sentence. He still has PTSD from his own rape and torture, so the idea of it happening to his loved ones just pushes him over the edge.

Well, I've just rewatched the last 2 episodes (but skipped over the rape, as I didn't need to do that again). I really wasn't that fond of SS originally, she just seemed too sweet and not amazonian enough for Brianna at all. However, she really has acted her socks off this season.

wiggly I keep looking at the chunky knitting, now. Maybe Brianna brought some 70s knitwear through the stones Grin, though judging by her original flimsy attire, maybe not. I do love the costumes, Brianna 's tartan skirt is gorgeous. I'm wearing a very warm green and blue tartan scarf in honour of Outlander today.

JennyfromtheBroch · 03/01/2019 21:22

Claire says in the books that Jamie has eighteenth century morals and part of that saw no problem with physical punishment.

I have to say I love the costumes this season, minus the truly awful wigs. I particularly like Claire's burgundy polka dots and the wrap over shawl-y things she's had since season 1. Honourable mention for Jamie's manly fur version.

SpikyHedgehogg · 03/01/2019 22:01

When she went hunting, did Bree’s blouse have a print? Looked like it was made of a comic book.

wigglybeezer · 03/01/2019 22:51

OK, last bit of costume pedantry, I've just looked up 18th Century knitting to double check my facts, knitted shawls and scarfs did not exist at all, woven only, the only knitted garments were underwear, socks and hats. But then time travel through stones doesn't exist either so I don't know what I'm worrying about really!

dinnafashsassenach · 03/01/2019 23:03

Love all of this season so far

quirkychick · 04/01/2019 06:43

I thought Brianna's hunting shirt was patchwork? I like the fact they've put her in a lot of Claire's old clothes, it gives a nice echo to Season 1 and with her curly hair makes her look much more like both her parents (and quite a bit like dd2's Moana doll Smile). wiggly presumably knitting in fine yarn would have taken ages, so would it have been more efficient time wise to have woven shawls? It seems a bit strange that they are not being so accurate, as they've made a point of reusing costumes and in the first season using traditionally made textiles.

wigglybeezer · 04/01/2019 10:44

Just have to let them off with a bit of artistic license. Should be seeing lots of clothes dyed with indigo, it grew in the south and DG mentions it a lot but it would look a bit dull if everyone was dressed in navy!

Lessstressedhemum · 04/01/2019 10:59

It would never do to see Claire with dyed hands now, would it? Imagine her messing around with wash tubs full of indigo!

I must be alone in loving the knitwear, even though it's not very authentic. Wiggly, did Scottish folk not knit jumpers and stuff in the C18th? I'm thinking particularly the Fair Isle folk but also other fishing communities. That wouldn't be large gauge either, though, even if they did.

quirkychick · 04/01/2019 13:31

I do like the knitwear, but then I love knitwear anyway. Still wearing my tartan scarf in the cold today!

wigglybeezer · 04/01/2019 14:15

They knitted hats stockings and gloves etc.but no, jumpers weren't a usual clothing item. a lot of the Knitwear styles we think of as very old and traditional were deliberately modified and adapted to encourage a cottage industry to provide income in rural areas in the nineteenth century and weren't well known until they were exhibited at The Great Exhibition etc.
I think fishermen's ganseys made of oiled wool were the earliest commonly worn jumpers.
I suspect time was a factor, if you were an ordinary woman you didn't have enough time to knit large items. Women used to knit stockings while walking along!
Knitting fancy items was a hobby for genteel ladies, often using silk rather than wool.
I could digress further about sheep breeds and wool quality's but I suspect that would be a detail too far.
You can see how all the domestic detail DG puts in appeals to me!

DragginBallsEEEE · 04/01/2019 21:49

Roger is an awful character, I feel a little bit sorry for him with Jamie beating lumps out of him but he WAS an asshole to Brianna.

One thing I've hated through all the storylines is Claire's refusal to see how dangerous her actions are and continuing to rock the boat with her views rather than try to remember which year she is in and how dangerous the repercussions are for any crime. I'm all for speaking your mind etc but if it means you/your husband could be jailed/hung/lashed then surely you'd watch your tongue?

wigglybeezer · 05/01/2019 00:37

All of DGs characters are flawed though, I don't mind that! In the books Bree is more annoying than Roger, which has been swapped for the TV series. Lord John Grey is perhaps the least flawed, I hope DG doesn't regard his sexuality as a flaw?
I can't quite go along with those who think Jamie is the perfect man...

Arkos · 05/01/2019 17:30

Whoever said its gone a bit Dr Quinn medicine woman is right. That's it ruined for me now😂
