Love this series, love Kathleen the new solicitor and her experts. Is it possible that the neighbours could have done it? I don't want to give any spoilers - just to say I feel really bad for Stephen Avery's mum, she is so stoic but what an awful way to live her life, she looks so depressed. Its pretty unbelievable that law enforcers would behave this way to avoid being sued for their first mistake (season 1 & 2).
Shitty for the family of the victims as well, I mean the real perpetrator is still out there.

There is another series about 3 young lads that were found guilty for the murder of some boys - one of whom was sentenced to death, this was overturned thankfully before any death sentence was carried out, 'The West Memphis 3' I think it is, anyone seen this? by the time the courts establish that they have the wrong people - which takes years and they fight it tooth and nail to avoid any suggestion that they might have made a huge mistake - by which time it seems that everyone just stops looking for the real murderer.

Bloody hell. I got to episode 8 and didn’t have a flipping clue what you all are on about. It felt like the exact same. Yup, I’ve been watching season 1 again all along.

GeorgieTheGorgeousGoat · 21/10/2018 17:27

OMG! Nooooooo 😂

dragonflyinn10 · 21/10/2018 17:39

@LampShadeHeid well at least you refreshed your memory!! Doh!!

I'm watching.. it's so addictive but despairing that this is their lives...

BabyChez · 21/10/2018 18:03

I have watched 2.5 episodes and decided to stop. Stopped watching. The whole thing is cringe and bizarre. They're focussing on his defence lawyer (the person who is being paid to fight his case), tell you 'these are all the people who don't want to participate, we tried!' (Why would they want to take part in this biased documentary for you to cut and skew their words and construct a narrative that suits you...?), then decide you're only going to listen to the one side that do want to participate and form opinion solely on that... it's wrong! They should be doing their own reconstructions and research, not being led by his bloody defence lawyer! The whole documentary is shocking and shows how dangerous biased media can be...

GeorgieTheGorgeousGoat · 21/10/2018 19:56
Confused
dragonflyinn10 · 21/10/2018 20:31

@BabyChez I take your point yet you did only watch 2.5 episodes! If I was the victims family I would want to know they have got the right people behind behind bars and Kathleen has given all sides the opportunity to speak but they declined

Think I've seen four episodes. Not sure I'm going to watch anymore. Regardless of whether the two are innocent or not, I find it hearrbreaking seeing their parents.

HappyEverIftar · 22/10/2018 17:01

Just finished series 2 wow. If nothing else it's clear there needs to be judicial reform or at least a review in the US court system. Kathleen and Laura's tenacity is amazing to watch.

HappyEverIftar · 22/10/2018 17:02

*of the US court system

bonfireheart · 22/10/2018 21:26

What I don't get is - apart from Brendan's confession is there any physical evidence that implicates him? So if a 16 year kid with low IQ and no adult present says something (regardless of whether coercion is present or not) are we supposed to take that as the truth? Unless he was floating in the air why didn't they find his fingerprints, DNA etc etc? I daren't search online there's too many odd conspiracy theories!

costacoffeecup · 22/10/2018 22:17

@bonfireheart no I don't think there is, that's what's so shocking. He was convicted purely on the confession and Kathleen zellner seems to have shown most of what he said couldn't have happened anyway. I've not finished yet...but so, so shocking.

qazxc · 23/10/2018 16:38

binged watched this. can we talk about everything or is it spoilery?

qazxc · 23/10/2018 16:43

SA blonde fiance was definetely in it for the fame element. she did not strike me as someone who wanted to go and live in rural seclusion with him and his elderly parents (which is his ideal scenario).

GeorgieTheGorgeousGoat · 23/10/2018 17:53

I think it’s probably fine to take about it all now. Maybe this post could be a heads up for those who haven’t watched it all/ don’t want to know about the whole series should turn away now Smile

qazxc · 23/10/2018 18:46

WARNING SPOILER.
Is this the end of the road for Brendan ?
As far as I could tell he has exhausted all legal avenues.

costacoffeecup · 23/10/2018 18:52

Finished! I want to talk about spoilers too!

The fiancé was hilarious.

costacoffeecup · 23/10/2018 18:57

Suppose it's fiancée actually

costacoffeecup · 23/10/2018 18:57

Could we ask Mumsnet to put a spoiler warning on the title? I am not sure how to do that..

costacoffeecup · 23/10/2018 18:59

The most shocking thing about it for me is the ridiculous nature of the legal system over there. Kathleen has totally pulled the whole case apart but nobody seems to actually care. Really bizarre.

And poor Brendan. I thought I remembered reading about him being released in the news so the end was a shock.

qazxc · 23/10/2018 19:01

" oh it's so ... Agricultural!" I knew there and then it wouldn't last. And that was before she repeatedly went on Dr Phil.

qazxc · 23/10/2018 19:14

I had a bit of a snigger at the reactions to ken kratz impromptu press conference at one of Brendan 's appeals. Katherine's what the fuck! face was priceless. As was the shameless book plugging ( far better than the one written by the defence solicitors apparently).
How can anyone take that narcissistic dick seriously?

YouWereRight · 23/10/2018 19:24

I think my favourite thing about this series was Kathleen, especially the scenes with her and SA's family.

We're there any scenes with Brendan's legal team talking to him or his family, I can't recall any?

bonfireheart · 23/10/2018 19:31

The circumstances around Krantz stepping down are dodgy. And same goes for Len Kachinsky!! Such dodgy morals both of them.
