wonderboy hazyjane and others, just to say thank you for not leaving the thread. I’m really enjoying the series and finding it interesting hearing your perspectives on what is accurately portrayed.

MisstoMrs · 09/11/2018 14:55

Just watched this week’s episode and I am a mess.

I’ve posted before about my DS who is NT, although we have to track his development as a result of issues with his birth.

We similarly have no family who will look after DS unless it is for a few hours in the day and they will call me back if they have any issues. I’ve had two nights ‘off’ since he was born & he still doesn’t sleep through at 2.5. Because of issues with my DS’s birth my DH didn’t engage with caring for him until he was 9 months.

So much of this is relatable for me. I think it just shows the brilliance of the writing and how issues are transferable but amplified for a children with SN.

BrewCake for all.

PollyFlinderz · 09/11/2018 16:55

Miss, is there anyway we can help you even if it’s just to console you?

glamorousgrandmother · 09/11/2018 16:59

I did feel for the grandmother at the end when she admitted she didn't want to look after Rosie because she was scared of something happening to her. I could relate to that.

As a teacher I was aware that although I could wave goodbye at the end of the day (and maybe breathe a sigh of relief ) that the parents were dealing with this all night too.

PicaK · 09/11/2018 17:00

We caught episode 4 last night. My god that was raw. The arguments etc. We wept and clung to each other. Androared with laughter and recognition. How does one track down the author to tell him how amazing he is?

WonderBoy · 09/11/2018 17:24

Just popping on in a spare moment to say I feel pretty sure that Shaun Pye (and his wife, who he credits for her collaboration with the writing) will be aware of the 3 MN There She Goes threads, including this one and the one specifically for parents of SD/SN children in SN Chat.

There is a great interview (I really recommend) with him about the series on the bbc.co.uk/media centre website from 8.10.18, and further interviews with Jessica and David.

hazeyjane · 09/11/2018 18:59

I haven't managed to watch yet....Will catch up later

Thanks Pigeon.

I sent an email to the BBC to say what a fantastic series it has been and to hope there is a further one.

Just watched episode 4. Incredible acting - especially Jessica H. Found much of it very moving, especially the end. Does anyone know the music played over the last few minutes of this episode? Very haunting.

slkk · 09/11/2018 22:04

My brother met the writer. He said it is all autobiographical and nothing in the series is made up - it all has happened.

MisstoMrs · 10/11/2018 07:08

@PollyFlinderz that’s so sweet of you.

I shouldn’t grumble. On the whole we’re really lucky. The mistakes that were made during my DS’s birth mean we’re lucky he’s even here. Both sets of grandparents do at least want to be around him now so I shouldn’t complain about not having a night off. He’s just come and given me a kiss (having got up at 5:30); he’s pretty awesome really.

Thank you for being so kind.

JustDanceAddict · 10/11/2018 08:08

I’m loving it too, even though I have NT kids.
Amazing acting and writing. Best wishes to all of the posters who are in a similar position to the family.

Decorhate · 10/11/2018 14:57

DowntheTown It may have been Love will Tear us Apart by Joy Division?

Ewanthescreamsheep · 10/11/2018 15:33

Really enjoying this series; moving and insightful, with comedy moments.
JH is brilliant, as always.
wtf is going on with DT's hair though?

DowntheTown · 10/11/2018 22:28

Thanks Decorhate. I heard the joy division track - but it was a female vocals, quite folky, at the very end when the step-dad character is telling Jessica/the mum how much she is loved. Sounded like a cross between Kate/Anna mcgarigal and portishead!!

Decorhate · 10/11/2018 22:38

Ah I know what you mean. It sounded like a version of Song to Siren or something else of This Mortal Coils?

DowntheTown · 11/11/2018 08:17

Yes! This mortal coil! Could be it!! Off to try and find. Thanks for your help - and sorry for derail of thread!

MyfanwyMontez · 11/11/2018 10:40

The music is Song To The Siren but I don’t know whether it’s This Mortal Coil’ s version of it. Sounds a bit different.

DowntheTown · 11/11/2018 22:15

Brilliant Myfanwy! Must be different version... on the hunt. Thank you!

WonderBoy · 12/11/2018 09:10

After that musical intermission...

It's The 2 Day Final Episode Of Series One Warning âš

Episode 5 of 5
Tuesday 13 November 2018 on BBC4 at 10pm

Ben
Rosie is incredibly excited - Gandalf is finally coming because there is going to be a birthday with lots of presents! It doesn't matter to Rosie that it's Ben's birthday. The extended family set off for a birthday meal.

PainUni · 12/11/2018 09:15

This is just brilliant. We need more programmes like this.

WonderBoy · 12/11/2018 09:25

Yes! Up with this sort of thing!

For the uninitiated, the first four 30-minute episodes of this StarStarStarStarStar series are currently available on BBC iPlayer.

BlessedBeTheFruitCake · 12/11/2018 11:09

I've really enjoyed this series. I could relate to the family quite a lot, especially this week with the parents only taking the NT dcs. I haven't been out with dh for over 5yrs now. I lol'd at the cupboard full of crap too, my dds favourite snacks are mini cheddars tooGrin
Looking forward to the last episode.

Roomba · 12/11/2018 12:57

Yeah, I'm also keen to know what hair dye David Tennant is using at the moment - mostly so I can avoid it! It was the same on HIGNFY the other night, it looked like a synthetic dead animal perched in his head with the bright lights on it Grin

hazeyjane · 12/11/2018 19:02

Finally watched last week's. Heavens that was a hard watch. Although I love how the family pull apart and together at the same time. I do think this programme has done the complexity of this families life so well. Compared to so many dramas which feel so formulaic and black and white, this has a whole palette, with a shit smear of dark humour running through it. I will feel a bit bereft when it finishes.

I think DT's hair is to make him look a bit like the writer?
