...by the way, DowntheTown if you find that track I'd live to know who it is. The music this week was spot on.

Until recently, DT had been dying his hair red for a part as Puck, so it's possible, since his hair is about a years growth long, that the brown in TSG is dyed over the remnants of the red, hence the harshness.

Ewanthescreamsheep · 13/11/2018 11:06

Ah this might explain it pick. I can't believe someone would choose for it to look like that! It's got a bit of the Paul McCartney about it.

WonderBoy · 13/11/2018 18:20

The countdown begins to tonight's final episode of the series 🕙

WonderBoy · 13/11/2018 18:32

Another sneak peak from tonight:

The family are out for dinner for Ben's birthday but Rosie wants in on his presents. Luckily she's ordered a surprise gift of her own...

Wink
WonderBoy · 13/11/2018 18:37

It might be a peak too, but I actually meant peek!

anniehm · 13/11/2018 18:44

I watched it, then dd watched it who is autistic (high functioning) and she loved it, she did some of the portrayed things and does have a good understanding of how hard she can be to live with.

I always say, we got lucky - at four we did have a barely verbal (mostly screams) kid whose specialist told us she may never speak and could be ld, she did learn that year, and we discovered she could read already. But our friends at her school (for autism in the USA) weren't lucky and their kids did have chromosomal deletions, one is no longer with us (Retts). Autism is often the early symptom of something else, or they have both.

AamdC · 13/11/2018 19:37

Swell i wouldnt say we were unlucky annie ds has autism and learning disabillities and a chromosomal deletion it is what it is hes a healthy happy boy with disabillities Hmm

Just waving to say hello - Women’s Hour yesterday was talking about There She Goes, with Jane Garvey saying it was amongst the best TV ever. It really is incredible acting.

WonderBoy · 13/11/2018 21:26

It's the '35 minutes to go to tonight's final episode' bell 🔔

Hope to see some lucky parents of children a little and especially a lot like lovely Rosie over on the SN Chat thread again afterwards for our last hurrah 🎉

hazeyjane · 13/11/2018 21:59

Will have to listen to Womans Hour on Catch up....thank you.

Awaiting last episode....a bit sadly.

Another brilliant episode. Shed tears over my own NT DS (4 years older than my DS with sld and autism). The effort of trying to make his birthdays special but other DS always ended up taking centre stage due to trying to cope with behaviours. On the one day you want your NT child to be the centre of attention it's impossible still. Remember those feelings when NT DS1 was 6-14 or so. Brilliant yet again Shaun Pye.

PickAChew · 14/11/2018 00:14

We wTch this on the Saturday, either broadcast on on iplayer. DS1 is quite taken with it, prob ly partly because Rosie looks a bit like Ds2, as well as acting like him!

Pigeonpresent · 14/11/2018 13:02

I’ve loved this series so much. Found the grandmother infuriating in the restaurant! I thought the last episode showed wonderfully that, though Ben’s life is tough, he’d learned to put someone else first at such a young age. I can’t imagine him growing up self centred like the Dad. Anyone know if it’s being picked up for a second series?

hazeyjane · 14/11/2018 21:21

I really hope it is picked up for a 2nd series.

From this piece I think Shaun Pye is surprised by how much his own experiences resonated with others

I am so glad he knows the impact the series has had. It makes me feel quite teary actually.

drspouse · 15/11/2018 13:49

I am enjoying it in both a "there but for the grace of god" and a "been there done that" way. Our DS has some SEN to the point where friends/family would never offer to babysit and we've struggled even to get someone to pay to do it - I am waiting for the day when my DD is old enough that my DM offers to have her to stay but not DS "to give you a rest".
But he's in mainstream/very verbal/learning to read/can go to mainstream holiday club just about/is managing some clubs with extra support.
And we realised things weren't quite right a bit older (about aged 3) and nursery did too (but then didn't bother to tell school) and we are only now on the endless treadmill of who can we get to diagnose him and how long will we be waiting. He has a genetic risk for ASD/ADHD so it is a bit more mainstream than "undiagnosed chromosomal abnormality" and the genetic history does mean people take it a bit more seriously.

I have one more episode to go.

Sorry if I missed this but does the girl playing Rosie have similar needs or is she just a great actor (and if she does, I assume they wrote the script round her as a child who can only say "X" is not that easy to find!)

drspouse · 15/11/2018 13:51

Oh and YYY to "all children do that" and "he'll find his own way" and all that "nothing wrong with him" guff.

If there's nothing wrong with him, then you've basically said that you aren't arranging to meet up with us any more/not doing playdates/never reply when I say that DS wants to play with your DC, because of something I did not because of the way DS is.

ThanksItHasPockets · 15/11/2018 13:54

@drspouse the girl playing Rosie is NT. I read an article where Shaun Pye said they explored casting a child with additional needs but decided that as it would be confusing and distressing for the child it would ultimately be unethical.

drspouse · 15/11/2018 13:57

Well, she is a great actor then!

I know some children with additional needs can be good at acting but I would imagine a) they have to be higher functioning and b) you couldn't have any scenes where they are hurting others as that would be too risky both for them and the others.

glamorousgrandmother · 15/11/2018 16:41

I looked the actress up, she has been in quite a few other things but unrecognisable.

glamorousgrandmother · 15/11/2018 16:43

Her name is Miles Lock. She is an amazing actress, particularly for one so young.

glamorousgrandmother · 15/11/2018 16:43

Miley

Cagliostro · 16/11/2018 09:20

Just watched the series so far. Excellent acting. A few comments from Emily to Simon did make me wonder if a writer was a Mumsnetter

glamorousgrandmother · 17/11/2018 07:22

Interesting that the beloved Gandalf was the one who appeared to make the least effort. Grandma was so annoying at the party. Poor Ben.
