New season 10 starts tonight! I’ve watched it since the first season, got DP into it 5 years ago and my whole family are completely gripped by it every year. Gearing up for our lives to be taken over for another 3 months!

No one I know outside the family watches it so thought I’d see if there’s anyone else out there with the bug Smile

Jess is only 19? Who knew?

llangennith · 16/11/2018 19:57

I've watched every series but still a rubbish cook. Any good cooks out there tell me about gelatine. They use it to set a lot of things. Is it really that versatile and simple to use?

LBOCS2 · 16/11/2018 22:59

Yes, in the right quantities and as long as whatever you're cooking is cold. If it gets warm it will melt.

pregle · 17/11/2018 20:51

The main takeaway from me is that I need a churned and a blast chiller...I'm terrible in the kitchen but feel like it's cos I don't have these things!

Very excited for the semi final..Ben has been on fire this week! I always think he looks like he's going to throw up when he hears the challenge but when he's cooking, nerves of steel.

I'd love him or sashi to win, cannot decide if I like Khan or not but he's probably the best / most creative out of the 3...

pregle · 17/11/2018 20:52

Churner not churned!

RockingMyFiftiesNot · 17/11/2018 23:57

Ben is definitely the most improved and my favourite to win now. Sashi could win if he pulls out the brilliance he showed previously. Khan seems heavily favoured by the judges and to be fair has been consistently great, so his to lose as far as I can see

GrimDamnFanjo · 18/11/2018 23:41

At the moon thinking Ben. He's really improving. I thinkSashi showed his weakness with the flapping over the pasta.

Davros · 19/11/2018 08:27

I think Ben should win as he's developed so much, his plating is excellent. As a personality he can be a bit deadpan but it's probably editing and nerves. Sashi is so lovely but has shown his weaknesses and seems to be limited in his ideas and repertoire. That chicken and rice dish did not look good. Khan is a killer but I like him. Thank god Jess has gone, she's only 19, did you know?

LIZS · 20/11/2018 20:25

Anyone watching this evening? Is the pressure test style over substance? Not keen on all these random ingredients.

RockingMyFiftiesNot · 20/11/2018 21:52

I watched it, what a crazy challenge

GrandTheftWalrus · 20/11/2018 22:10

I've not watched the finale yet. Need to wait till DP gets home from work.

He thinks sashi and I think Ben.

HouseworkIsASin10 · 20/11/2018 22:58

Just watched the final, and very happy with the winner.
Love Mchef Aus, have been watching from the start 10 seasons.
Used to enjoy seeing them at the house practising meals.
Have watched every MKR aswell.
They used to be spread over the year so only one at a time, but recently they have crossed over. We watched all of MKR and taped MA until MKR finished.
Have nothing to watch now☹

Davros · 20/11/2018 23:01

I think the result was fair, very pleased for the winner and the runner up was really gracious. I've watched since S1 as well, we used to love all the bits in the house and how they used to wait to see who came back from eliminations.

GrandTheftWalrus · 21/11/2018 01:19

My recording cut off right after they had tasted both dishes!!

FortniteIsTheNewCrack · 21/11/2018 07:59

No spoilers here Wink grand can you get it on catch up? I think it's repeated the following afternoon - how annoying for you!

No surprises here and a very worthy winner - now nice it was to watch a final where you wanted both of them to win as they were so lovely! Sashi's DC made me laugh "what are you doing Dad? What are you doing now? What are you doing Dad?" Grin

Housework I know what you mean about "what shall we watch now?"! I refuse to watch the U.K. Masterchef professionals currently on as Gregg Wallace is such an irritating prick. Will have to have a search on Netflix for something else. At least I won't be eating so much ice cream in the evening! (Contestant: "I'm just cooking my delicious Anglaise then getting the churner out" Me: "DH please can you get me some ice cream from the freezer?" GrinWink)

Davros · 21/11/2018 09:18

I like all the UK MNs but LOVE the USA one, I need to check on that

HouseworkIsASin10 · 21/11/2018 10:04

Fortnite ha ha we need a support group!

Davros You have just reminded me, the liftGrin

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 21/11/2018 11:54

Can I join the 'What do we watch now?' support group, please? Not only has Masterchef Australia finished, but I found out yesterday that Scott and Bailey has finished too - for good!! I am bereft.

I thought the right person won on the day - the runner up had really not done himself credit in the first round of the finale, whilst the winner produced two excellent dishes. But overall, I thought the runner up should have won - his performance was more consistent, and his food was more varied, over the competition.

In other series, when they have awarded the trophy, there has often been a prize for the runner up too, and sometimes even something (like a stint in a professional kitchen) for the second runner up too - that didn't happen this time, which I thought was a shame - all three contestants who made it through to the semi final deserved a reward.

I would love to see a programme where they look back over the past 10 years, and see where some of the stand-out contestants are now.

GrandTheftWalrus · 21/11/2018 11:54

The next series of USA should be on soon.

I'll catch it later. I know who wins now as I looked it up but I'd like to see him win.

HouseworkIsASin10 · 21/11/2018 12:08

GrandTheftWalrus So it's a 'he' then Grin

RockingMyFiftiesNot · 21/11/2018 12:34

Would have been happy with either winners. The 'loser' did so because they made some mistakes in their choice of dishes, IMO. But yes was very gracious in defeat, and showed real strength of character throwing himself into the long, complicated dessert challenge knowing he could only win if the other screwed up completely

HouseworkIsASin10 · 21/11/2018 12:37

GrandTheftWalrus So it's a 'he' then

Ignore me, just realised you meant Masterchef Aus winner and not the USA winner Hmm

iklboo · 21/11/2018 13:08

Oooh or a Champion of Champions maybe?

GrandTheftWalrus · 21/11/2018 13:30

Haha yes. I've not seen the new USA ones yet.

Davros · 21/11/2018 17:03

I think it didn't help that they cut it down from three rounds to two. I also thought they ended the programme quite suddenly and was expecting an announcement of a prize for the runner up and maybe third place.
