New season 10 starts tonight! I’ve watched it since the first season, got DP into it 5 years ago and my whole family are completely gripped by it every year. Gearing up for our lives to be taken over for another 3 months!

No one I know outside the family watches it so thought I’d see if there’s anyone else out there with the bug Smile

I’m so glad I’ve found this thread! Masterchef Australia is the best three months of the year Grin Who are everyone’s favourites so far? I like Aldo’s energy, although it has the potential to become annoying very quickly.

WooYa · 02/09/2018 20:39

Aldo? The bouncy Italian? I love him!
I'm really bad with names at this stage 😬 I'm great at faces tho ha ha

crocsaretoocoolforschool · 02/09/2018 20:40

Too early to tell yet, they don't get a lot of air time until at least 5 have gone Grin

RingOfAppreciation · 04/09/2018 07:16

All caught up with last nights mystery box, which now has a twist. A bit more similar to the American version now, which is a shame as it was always interesting to watch those who had done so well in the mystery box then do not so well in the Invention test. Like the concept for the Invention test (although it screams Heston) and felt a bit sorry for the lady who made the cobbler (Samira?) as she obviously didn’t get it.

IsTheRainEverComingBack · 04/09/2018 16:15

Yes the cobbler was a very odd choice. Not sure how I feel about the change in the mystery box, kind of hope they don’t do that every time because I loved seeing the mad things that end up in them.

I'm not sure I commit to this now I know it'll basically be the only telly I watch for 3 months Shock

IsTheRainEverComingBack · 04/09/2018 18:35

Yep, that’s pretty much it for the next few months! Especially with all the hour and half long episodes Shock

Apparently you can buy Maggie Beer's verjuice at Harvey Nicholls.

ExileOnMNStreet · 08/09/2018 13:01

Hurrah I was late to this but am all caught up now! I love Gary and want to ruffle his hair

At first I thought Aldo was a knob, but now I love him. He is always either kissing someone or crying. Grin I also like Reece and the butcher with the man bun whose name I can't remember (although he says he is a butcher, but the caption said he was a butcher's assistant!) I also like Mirror Glaze Jess. Is it Brendan (I am terrible with names) who is the social worker (who makes me feel really old as he looks so young) I also like him a lot.

This is my favourite programme, and makes the UK Masterchef (with Gregg fucking Wallace) look so much more shit in comparison. I also do like the US one as have a secret love for Gordon Ramsay and all the bleeped out swearing.

The trouble is I am on the UK MC thread as well and have to work hard with all the watching to keep up with both!

Love Masterchef Australia. Have watched all ten seasons.

DH loves it too. We are currently also watching MKR.

A relative worked at one of George’s restaurants in Melbourne and refers to him a the poisoned Greek dwarf. He is not a fan. I’ve eaten in the same restaurant a few years ago.

I have some really close friends in Australia and I go to visit fairly regularly. Going again in November. Will have to get DH to not watch any while I’m away.

Stayed with a friend in the Barossa a few years ago and she took me to a restaurant run by a former contestant and Maggie Beer’s place in the same day. I was in heaven! No Maggie unfortunately.

roundtable · 08/09/2018 13:44

I thought this was about My Kitchen Rules until I read the judges name and got very confused. I love MKR!

Off to put Australian Masterchef on my planner...

maggiehilltop · 08/09/2018 15:09

I watch both MKR and MC Australia. I just wish they weren't both on at the same time as it's really stressful trying to keep up with them both on every nightGrin

DH gets stressed out seeing them all stacking up on the virgin planner !!

ExileOnMNStreet · 08/09/2018 17:24

I can't get sucked into MKR as I'm trying to keep up with Bake Off, Great British Menu, MC Professionals and MC Australia, and it's already proving taxing Grin Why can't they spread them more evenly through the year

Oh Maggie my DH has the most annoying weird habit of getting all antsy if the Sky box storage available dips below 50% Hmm I could understand his angst if it was 5%, but 50? Confused I swear if he asks me one more time "have you watched this? Can I delete this?" I'll clonk him one with the nearest cast iron pan Grin

TechnicalSergeantGarp · 09/09/2018 14:41

I love MC Australia and MKR. I prefer the food on MC and hate all the snide shenanigans on MKR. I've watched the last few MC USA but it is the same vein as MKR which gets very tedious.

Gutted to hear about George and Shannon.

I've only been watching for three series, I'd love to watch them all.

I like the dessert women.

ExileOnMNStreet · 10/09/2018 19:40

Please let someone else be watching!

Nigella Lawson gets right on my nerves (sorry to any fans Blush) Anchovies are "the bacon of the sea" Hmm---- Gah.

ExileOnMNStreet · 10/09/2018 20:08

I like your name, Garp, btw Smile

TechnicalSergeantGarp · 10/09/2018 20:35

Right back at you Exile.

I'm still on MKR. I need a sabbatical to enjoy MKR and MC properly.

IsTheRainEverComingBack · 10/09/2018 21:15

I never liked Nigella but I’ve recently warmed to her. I also love anchovies and don’t eat bacon, so I’ll take that!

I’m loving Kristen, I can just see her confidence growing. Jess is also amazing, and only 19! I think the round trip to London just for tea is a bit bonkers though, when will they fit it in during the filming schedule?

OP posts:
SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 11/09/2018 12:49

I have always been a fan of Nigella - and I would FAR rather see her on Masterchef Australia than Marco Pierre White, with all his 'look at MEEEEE' shouting and fake-y moodiness (or maybe it isn't fake, and he really is a grumpy bugger).

Some people go on Masterchef Australia to big themselves up - major ego boost - and others are clearly there for the contestants. MPW very clearly makes the whole thing about HIM, with the contestants as satellites to the Great Man, whereas Nigella does seem to put the contestants at the centre of things.

I do still watch the episodes with MPW, but I do an awful lot of muttering and swearing during them!

ExileOnMNStreet · 11/09/2018 14:33

Oh dear I love Marco, although I agree he is turning into a bit of a caricature Grin but but he used to be terribly sexy, and he did make Gordon Ramsay cry, so I have a soft spot for him Blush

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 11/09/2018 18:25

I’ve been to one of MPW’s restaurants, and every wall held not one but several huge pictures of The Great Man in various moody poses. I found it very hard to enjoy my meal being glared at by MPW. I felt judged and found wanting.

ExileOnMNStreet · 11/09/2018 18:58

Like this SDTG? I feel something looking at that but not judged WinkGrin

Any Masterchef Australia fans (in the UK) about?
Toomuchgoingon · 11/09/2018 19:04

We watch it every year and then the NZ version....... Don't like UK one at all....

ExileOnMNStreet · 19/09/2018 09:44

Anyone still watching? I actually love Gordon Ramsay, I used to think he was a bit of a twat but do like him in the USA MC.

It did make me think having him as a guest just after Nigella was interesting, as he is a "proper" chef (I want to speak MC and say "at the top of his game" Grin) whereas Nigella, albeit best selling etc, is not a chef. Last night he was giving really helpful tips which are more use to them than Nigella mouthing cliches (yes, I really don't like her!)

Poor old Brendan and his hand. It makes me feel so old knowing he is a social worker. It made me wince when George couldn't look at his injury - way to reassure him!

Titsywoo · 19/09/2018 09:56

Still watching here :) What is going on with Gordon's hair?! It's mental. Glad chloe didn't go yesterday - wasn't looking good for her at one point!
