New season 10 starts tonight! I’ve watched it since the first season, got DP into it 5 years ago and my whole family are completely gripped by it every year. Gearing up for our lives to be taken over for another 3 months!

No one I know outside the family watches it so thought I’d see if there’s anyone else out there with the bug Smile

OP posts:

I’m still watching, and I loved how excited and involved Gordon got when they were announcing the scores in the immunity challenge - he was genuinely on tenterhooks.

I think that he is there to educate, to build up the contestants - they are the focus, for him - whereas MPW uses the programme and the contestants as a frame to display the marvellousness of Marco - it is all about him showing off.

Gordon gets on my nerves sometimes, but I am entirely won over by how great he is being on this.

I usually don’t watch the masterclass, but I did watch the one at the end of Nigella week, and I am very tempted by the whole roasted cauliflower with the spicy chickpeas etc - that looked lovely. I saw Nigella do the fatteh on her recent series, but the cake did look nice, though she could have stopped with all the rustic nonsense.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 19/09/2018 22:40

@Titsywoo - I couldn’t agree more, about Gordon’s new hairdo - it is utterly barking!

LBOCS2 · 20/09/2018 08:24

It looks like he has killed a pigeon and perched it on his head.

I was saying to DH the same thing - Gordon gets really involved and actually wants them to do well, to progress and learn. I usually like Nigella but I found her a bit... vacuous last week. She's all creamy voice, mothering in a sexy way (IYSWIM), but actually there's not much substance to her.

KittyKlawsReturns · 20/09/2018 10:25

I love Australian Masterchef they are all so ridiculously talented.

What I love about it is the sense of community there seems to be and the relationship between judges and contestants is more nurturing, like they are there to teach them and help them in future careers rather than simply judging them.

I'm with you - I skip the masterclass generally (although I did make a tomato sauce from one once) but it sounds like it may be worth skipping to the end for that cauliflower recipe.

I thought the same, at first I though boy band then I realised it is actually grey/blonde Morrissey (from the 80s when he was young) .

KittyKlawsReturns · 20/09/2018 10:26

Also hello everyone waves

LIZS · 20/09/2018 10:31

Need to catch up on the immunity challenge later. G's hair is weird, it has a life of its own! Less sweary than on TV here.

Can't help but think the contestants get coaching in between challenges and must have basic hygiene, prep and cooking techniques taught before the start. Serving raw food a big no-no and why do they all try a pannacotta which has sent so many home in previous series.

GrimDamnFanjo · 20/09/2018 17:30

Love the Oz gang and agree GR has been great so far, apart from the strange hair...

LIZS · 21/09/2018 14:58

Yeah, team challenge is more vintage GR -sweary, intimidating.

ExileOnMNStreet · 22/09/2018 20:47

Loki! Oh poor Loki. How sorry we felt for him especially when his lip wobbled I may have cried a little. The blue team in the team challenge were cringingly bad, weren't they? Awful to watch. Yay for Brendan and his team though.

Ben has surprised me with how good he has been recently. The trouble with people that peak too soon, like Chloe, is that the only way is down.

Any favourites to win? I'd really like Jess to win.

Btw, yep totally agree, what was going on with Gordon's hair? You could land aircraft on there.

LostInShoebiz · 23/09/2018 17:08

Loki you fool!

One person is really, really annoying me. One word: nonna.

crocsaretoocoolforschool · 23/09/2018 22:36

There's still too many to get to know them properly -couple that I'm not entirely sure I could name

But not sure what was going through Loki's head!

Nonna needs to branch out a bit or she won't last much longer

LIZS · 24/09/2018 15:00

Such a shame. Presumably there will be a returners' week later on.

ExileOnMNStreet · 28/09/2018 20:15

Nooooooooo!

Chloe should totally have gone home then. Angry

exLtEveDallas · 28/09/2018 20:17

Yep, with you there. Poor old Brendan - one more minute in the pan and he'd have been fine :(

ExileOnMNStreet · 28/09/2018 20:19

Chloe minced fillet steak and made it look like shit, but gets to stay.

mrswhiplington · 29/09/2018 12:05

I thought Chloe would have gone too. I suppose her dish was still edible and the guest chef ate it all but Brendan's meat was almost raw.Shock

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 29/09/2018 12:15

I worried about Jess, with this challenge - she is absolutely amazing at desserts, but being a beef challenge, this was way outside her comfort zone.

She is going to have to get much better at savoury stuff, if she wants to win - though I think they all benefit hugely, just from being on the show, and when she leaves, even if she wins, we will see her concentrating on desserts as her career goes forward. "Jess has done work experience at X and Y patissiers and will be launching her dessert bar shortly" kinda thing.

LIZS · 29/09/2018 19:33

Is it available on catchup anywhere? The caption suggests so but it's not on uktv.

llangennith · 29/09/2018 20:14

Chloe's mince must've tasted incredibly good to beat Brendan even if his steak was raw.

LBOCS2 · 03/10/2018 21:22

Where are they all living this year? Are they in a Masterchef house or have they done away with it?

LIZS · 03/10/2018 21:25

Never seen a 3d printer used in cooking before.

ExileOnMNStreet · 04/10/2018 08:19

LBOCS2 I think it is the Masterchef House as I vaguely remember seeing some of them waking up in bunk beds. Apparently it takes seven months to film, I can't imagine they stay away from their families from that long though?! I don't want to google as I know I'll see the winner and ruin it Grin

LIZS I watched the first couple on demand via Sky but can't seem to find the most recent ones either? I can barely work a light switch though never mind TV technology Blush

That restaurant (sorry "cutting edge space") last night was...interesting! Liked the exterior but wtf was going on with those chairs?!

I felt so sorry for risotto chef!

LBOCS2 · 04/10/2018 08:32

I read a few years ago that they are away from their families, but if they have young kids then time is made for them to see them each week. They also get paid a small allowance for bills and things so they're not just not earning for the whole time they're in the show. I just wondered about the house as I haven't seen it in this year's show yet.

ExileOnMNStreet · 16/10/2018 07:14

Anyone still watching? Brendan is back!

What do we think of Sashi making Masterchef history and having two immunity pins? I love Sashi and it amuses me to see how envious Reece is WinkI thought Reece's dessert winning best dish last night was a bit laughable, it looked like something my cat would bring up. In fact Reece is annoying me now after I liked him at first.

Poor Jess going into elimination challenge in sweet week because of Gina

LIZS · 16/10/2018 08:18

I'm surprised Gina has got this far tbh. Was really pleased Brendan got back in and we love Adriano.
