'I'm not sure VanGogh with regard to the data stick. It could be his and it could be a plant.

If it is his, then it might contain information regarding Helmand and the reason why he has the gun in the first place.

If it isn't his then it has data that either would make /Dave angry or 'evidence' that incriminates him.

We already know that the CCTV has been tampered with. Who did this is another matter entirely - my guess is Gina McKee authorised it.

DarlingNikita · 11/09/2018 12:25

In the first episode she sees a journalist and is picked up by a guy in a Range Rover.

As in, is seeing/dating a journalist? I don't remember that at all. Must have watched parts of that ep with my head in a bucket Grin

I can't decide whether she'll be significant or not. It does seem a bit odd to show her so prominently in the first episode and then drop her entirely. Then again, the coffee-dropping could just have been a mechanism to get Dave to have to give the HS his shirt, and the car and driver just another swipe at the 'type' of person Jed M thinks she is – posh and privileged but dim.

'David-slash-Dave' is what the HS herself called him, I think, when he said he answered to either.

GingerCatBigBalls · 11/09/2018 12:41

Channel meets with a female journalist to try and dish the dirt on the HS but the journalist isn't very interested.

GingerCatBigBalls · 11/09/2018 12:43

Imo one of the biggest script mistakes was calling the posh intern " Channel" - wtf? It certainly wouldn't go down well on the baby name boards..

GingerCatBigBalls · 11/09/2018 12:44

Chanel, even

DarlingNikita · 11/09/2018 13:08

Oh yes, of course! Thanks Ginger.

DoryNow · 11/09/2018 13:58

On the BBC site about the programme they have a character synopsis ( (quite handy for keeping all those " suits" identified )

Chanel apparently comes from a rich family. Fits that she would have a posh car & driver at her disposal, provided by daddy & an ex military man would be a sort of bodyguard too perhaps? Could be daddy knows (knew) JM & swung her the job but after 5 years she'd had enough & threw the coffee at the boss in a temper to get herself fired?

Johnb0y · 11/09/2018 14:46

If Dave didn't know that the bullet was blank and he tried to commit suicide then why didn't they show that? As it would have been very dramatic...
Perhaps he staged the fake suicide himself?
Surely the ultimate twist is to have the'hero' turn out to be the'baddie'.

Graphista · 11/09/2018 15:07

There's always a lull in the middle of any fictitious work, even the best writers struggle with that.

I've been stuck in the middle of my 2 novels for YEARS!

Reading another recap on Facebook (can't do link) they've come up with another theory - Manchurian candidate Dave - he's the one doing shit but doesn't know he is!

placemats · 11/09/2018 15:22

Is /Dave a hero though?

He may well have known the suicide bomber's wife beforehand.

Gersemi · 11/09/2018 15:42

They did show Dave trying to commit suicide, Johnb0y. They cut away immediately the shot was fired.

CoffeeMad18 · 11/09/2018 16:43

On another site someone spotted this....and mentioned he could be Vickys new man?

I'm really curious as to who wants Dave alive and working there so much. He should have been sacked after the first incident and now someone switched out the bullets in his gun for blanks.

Thesnobbymiddleclassone · 11/09/2018 16:48

@GingerCatBigBalls do we even know if her name is really Chanel?! Questioning her a lot.

GingerCatBigBalls · 11/09/2018 17:02

Haha good point snobby!

wowfudge · 11/09/2018 17:26

If she was working for the HS she will have been security vetted to a high level. Very difficult for her to have lied about her name unless she was a spooky.

wowfudge · 11/09/2018 17:27

Or even a spook 👻

wowfudge · 11/09/2018 17:28

I really didn't need to see SlashDave actually shoot himself. The sound of the gun firing and the suggestion he had shot himself dead was enough.

NCNCNC123 · 11/09/2018 18:53

In the BBC link about Chanel it says:

"it’s clear that Chanel is wealthy but Chanel is evasive about where her family money comes from."

Did this come up at all in what we've seen of her? Is it relevant? It just seems an odd detail to include.

MargotLovedTom1 · 11/09/2018 18:55

Dave definitely copied the info off the tablet onto a memory stick; he did it when they were staying in the adjoining hotel rooms and Julia was asleep.

VanGoghsDog · 11/09/2018 19:17

"it’s clear that Chanel is wealthy but Chanel is evasive about where her family money comes from."

It sort of did - when Slash saw her off the premises and she was picked up in a big car, he said they'd ordered her a taxi, and she she didn't need it and it was implied she was from money somehow, but no idea if it is relevant.

BreakfastAtSquiffanys · 11/09/2018 19:25

Also when Chanel was shouting at Slimy Rob after he sacked her she yelled something like "I wouldnt do this job even if you paid me" which implies she was an unpaid intern

Defrack · 11/09/2018 19:58

The weasle thats the new home secretary, is the minsiter for counter terrorism, so he has a lot of power with the police etc. Could this mean he is involved in the attacks?

Meltedicicle · 11/09/2018 19:59

I was wondering about Chanel, I noticed she referred to Julia as a sociopath a few times, I think during the journalist meeting. I wondered if that was a clue to what follows ie she will stop at nothing to get to the top even it means faking her own death.
