The film is excellent but I'm not impressed with this series so far.

OP posts:

I'm watching it.

I haven't seen the film but I've read the book and I'm quite liking the series so far.

It's a little odd with some of the camera effects but I'm enjoying it.

haribosmarties · 11/07/2018 21:44

I LOVE the film but didnt know they are doing a series??
Thanks for the heads up I will be checking it out!

Hygge · 11/07/2018 21:50

It's the first episode tonight and so far it's been strange so far (even allowing for the book being strange) but I'm enjoying it.

LightAsTheBreeze · 12/07/2018 07:13

Forgot this was on, will watch later

Killybashangel · 12/07/2018 14:21

What were the red cuts on Sara who was locked up in the tower's legs?

Killybashangel · 12/07/2018 14:21

I quite liked it and will watch it next week. Liked the 70s film. Not read the book

FourFriedChickensDryWhiteToast · 12/07/2018 14:24

Deeply weird movie...bound to make a deeply weird series..

headinhands · 12/07/2018 14:27

Tell me now what channel is it on?!?

Killybashangel · 12/07/2018 14:33

Bbc2 i think

NotSuchASmugMarriedNow1 · 12/07/2018 14:48

The voiceover is annoying because you can't make out what their saying

Hygge · 12/07/2018 15:12

@Killybashangel - I'm not sure but I assumed they were the result of a beating by Miss Appleyard.

In the book she dislikes Sara, and is trying to crush her spirit a bit because Sara doesn't fit into Victorian standards.

So I assumed she had punished her previously and left marks, which she then went on to aggravate under the guise of cleaning them.

Killybashangel · 12/07/2018 15:17

Thanks. I think because the first ones were on the front of her lower legs (I think) i didn't think of that, but it makes sense.

AnyFucker · 12/07/2018 15:18

.

Killybashangel · 12/07/2018 16:01

I watched that bit again and on the second lot she showed her there was a sort of red raw patch on her inner leg only. I'm wondering if she'd been doing something weird like scraping her with a stone or something

Hygge · 12/07/2018 16:12

She might have done that.

She did put the hairbrush onto her legs and it looked like she pushed it into the wounds or marks, so perhaps she has scraped her or scrubbed at her legs with something.

I thought she was going to hit her with it at that point, but I think she actually dug the bristles into her leg.

Killybashangel · 12/07/2018 16:58

Oh yes. Maybe she was repeatedly scraping her with the hairbrush bristles until it bled or something.

fuzzywuzzy · 12/07/2018 17:11

I thought Sara did those to herself, Mrs Appleyard was taunting her about having lived in an orphanage so I thought the wounds were self inflicted a by product of having lived thro very unpleasant times.

Killybashangel · 12/07/2018 17:29

Yes you might be right there. Maybe she scratches herself

Racecardriver · 12/07/2018 17:35

Didn't know there was a series, where what channel? I have find memories of reading the book then going for a picnic there as a child. Eerie place, much like the book.

Racecardriver · 12/07/2018 20:42

So just watched the first episode. Did anyone else find that the music was completely wrong?

bakingcupcakes · 12/07/2018 22:05

The music is really odd. I don't think it fits the time period at all. The whole thing is pretty odd though. I didn't know it was a book/film as well.

Hygge · 12/07/2018 22:24

I didn't mind the odd music, it fitted in with the weird and off-kilter feel of the whole thing.

Mrs Appleyard's glasses looked both fitting and odd as well, and some of the other costumes and accessories too.

I kind of liked it being odd and wrong, it added atmosphere for me.

youngestisapsycho · 12/07/2018 22:50

Just watched, yes odd, but a good odd... will carry on watching.

maxthemartian · 12/07/2018 23:09

Just watched the first episode. It's quite steampunk looking.

LadyRochfordsHoickedGusset · 13/07/2018 05:45

Have recorded it, not watched yet. I really enjoyed the book a year or two ago. Absolutely chilling.
