The film is excellent but I'm not impressed with this series so far.

This programme is weird, think I prefer the original.

Anyone think Irma really looks like Margot Robbie when she was in neighbours?

Andylion · 01/08/2018 00:05

I'm on episode three and I am finding it quite tedious. Don't know if I'll bother with the rest.

SirHubzALot · 01/08/2018 00:07

I gave up after episode three. Also found it getting tedious which is a shame because I think the series started well.

hattymattie · 01/08/2018 08:39

Thank you - I thought she might have said I hate men. I thought there were only three episodes - those of you who said they were giving up after episode three.2

MipMipMip · 01/08/2018 13:20

According to subtitles it was "I hate Miranda". Although I never 100% trust subtitles they can be funny enough to keep watching bad programs on occasion.

The mockney at the start of episode one was terrible. I know the actress can do a lot better so I suspect the directed kept saying "a bit more, a bit more" and she did a joke version that the director pounced on!

LighthouseSouth · 01/08/2018 22:07

I'm loving this, and the music! All of it is giving me the feelz! I'm a big fan of Natalie Dormer, I should say.

I remember the book being very dull after the disappearance, this is way better. However, I can't recall the book well enough to know if they have altered the storyline or simply drawn it out a lot better. And I wonder if they'll use the "missing" chapter?

PickwickThePlockingDodo · 03/08/2018 09:35

I think they are dragging this out a bit too much, episode four and still not much going on.

longwayoff · 03/08/2018 10:32

Episode 4 on iplayer. Phew about half way thru feels like hard work. Is it worth sticking with?

LighthouseSouth · 03/08/2018 16:07

well, clearly I think it's fab!

longwayoff · 03/08/2018 16:59

Thanks lighthouse, it improved a lot in second half, I'll stick with it I think

LighthouseSouth · 03/08/2018 17:39

I so wanted her to catch up with her brother

SinisterBumFacedCat · 03/08/2018 20:48

I'm enjoying it. The film did my head in, it was like Laura Ashley on acid.

twattymctwatterson · 03/08/2018 21:06

I abandoned it. It's weird AF. I mean I know the book is too but that kind of thing doesn't translate well to screen for me

Quadrangle · 03/08/2018 21:21

I'm enjoying it

ellenanora5 · 03/08/2018 23:58

Thanks icelolly, haven't seen home and away in years

Well episode four is over, still none the wiser but I really wanted the brother to realise his sister was a few feet away from him.

Two episodes left so I'll see it through.

What was the significance of the man looking at the sculptures, does he know Ms Appleyard, why was she freaked out by him, apart from the fact he was weird.

I think Irma thought she was the cool girl in the college and was pissed off when she realized she wasn't, so she killed them.

Blondeshavemorefun · 04/08/2018 21:07

Just seen 4

Not a lot going on

LighthouseSouth · 04/08/2018 22:12

but there's so much going on....

MrStarkIDontFeelSoGood · 05/08/2018 16:33

Oh I hope Sarah gets to Bertie but I feel it won't end happily Sad

rosy71 · 06/08/2018 11:11

I hadn't realised until halfway through last night's episode that Bertie was Sarah's brother. Why doesn't he know she's at the school? Is that why Mrs Appleyard didn't let her go to the picnic & to church? In case he, or someone else, saw her?

MrStarkIDontFeelSoGood · 06/08/2018 11:40

Mrs Appleyard doesn't know I don't think.

She dislikes Sarah because Sarah can see through her, and hasn't broken despite her many attempts. I also think she is reminded of herself.

Sarah was taken from an Orphanage by a Male Guardian who decided to take her as a Ward, then deposited her at the school (reasons unclear)

He travels and is meant to be based in London but hasn't been heard of for 8 months or paid Sarah's bills (shades of A Little Princess) It is possible he is dead.

Bertie being a local stable hand is a coincidence I think

shumway · 06/08/2018 11:44

Actress who plays Irma was in Three Billboards Outside Ebbing as well.

FlowerOfTheValley · 07/08/2018 08:11

I've loved the film for years, it was very much portrayed as a true story even though it wasn't. The series can't really compare but I am enjoying it although am finding it a lot darker than the film.

There's obviously a lot more in the series because of the length so I find that interesting. Will definitely be getting the book now.

icelolly99 · 07/08/2018 10:41

Without any spoilers please; does the original story include all the homo sexual tension that's been poured into this adaptation?!

AppleYumYum · 07/08/2018 10:58

Yes has anyone read the book, has the TV series added the lesbian/homosexual elements into it?

I watched the film many times in my childhood and teens and I don't remember that being there... but then again I may have been too naive to have picked up on it then?

LighthouseSouth · 07/08/2018 12:18

I don't remember the gay thing at all

I felt there was a lot of love between the girls - I mean friendship love - but I read the book years ago. It's not that i would have missed it, I just really don't remember. But tbh the TV has taken the line of possible relationships in order to add to the mystery factor I think - could someone have been taking revenge etc
