The film is excellent but I'm not impressed with this series so far.

I didn't bother with episode 2. Started watching and then deleted the recording.
I loved the film though.
I believed it was a true story Blush

VanillaSugar · 20/07/2018 08:47

Yes, I thought it was a true story. Why do we believe it was?

BarefootHippieChick · 20/07/2018 08:55

I watched the film years ago and loved it, I also thought it was a true story! ! Now I'm going to have to hunt the book out!

icelolly99 · 20/07/2018 11:43

I'm watching it. I've not seen the previous film or read the book so I've no preconceived ideas on it really. Enjoying it so far. I started a thread about this the other day as my search didn't find this thread. Glad I've found it now as I couldn't believe Mumsnet people hadn't been watching it! 👍

JuliaSevern · 20/07/2018 14:55

I enjoyed the second episode and am getting into it now. The bit where Miranda was savagely caned on the hand was upsetting.

Blondeshavemorefun · 20/07/2018 15:03

Agree the caning was ouch

Wonder whose foot we saw

Ikeameatballs · 20/07/2018 21:18

The novel was written as if it was a true story, even though it wasn’t. The rock is a real place and I think the school had some basis in the school the author attended.

AppleYumYum · 21/07/2018 21:49

Its not a patch on the original film, I grew up believing it was true. The music in the original I can still hear in my head.

As an Australian it's the colours that are all wrong. It doesn't feel like it's filmed in Australia even though some of it must have been as I've been to Hanging Rock and recognised the path up to the rock. The bush and the landscape isn't green and vivid like that, especially not in Summer, it's dry, faded and crispy.

Clionba · 22/07/2018 07:48

It's very strange. I wondered what was in the box as well. If that little girl was in an orphanage who was the man that brought her to the school? I hate the clothes, imagine being so layered and bundled up in the heat.

ellenanora5 · 23/07/2018 23:04

I'm half way through the second episode, I'll persevere for now but I'm not sure I like it.

AnyFucker · 23/07/2018 23:05

.

Clawdy · 25/07/2018 22:21

Still watching but some scenes are a bit silly, that one where the teachers are demonstrating the kiss of life, then asking the girls to do it, was ludicrous! Just an excuse for a bit more soft focus lesbianism.

MipMipMip · 26/07/2018 23:45

Can someone tell me when Miss McGraw went missing?! Completely missed that but (no spoilers those of you who've seen the film!)

lilacandlemonade · 27/07/2018 19:20

Question on the third episode - I assume they are insinuating that Irma is a lesbian? Still can't work out what's going on with Mrs Appleyard - enjoying it all but still very confused!

Clawdy · 27/07/2018 19:28

Not sure she is a lesbian, I thought that too, but one of the tv reviews said it was more of a power thing with her. The nude back shots of the girls seemed a bit unnecessary to me.

WhipItGood · 27/07/2018 20:27

I’m trying to get around to the second episode but I’m not enthusiastic tbh. It’s not a patch on the original film imo which was so delicate and more disturbing. If I hadn’t seen the original I’d probably like it more.

mizu · 27/07/2018 21:10

Anyone know how many episodes there are?

icelolly99 · 28/07/2018 00:17

This thread didn't come up in the search. Glad I've found it again. I'm sticking with it; I've not read the boom or seen previous film so no prejudice for other versions. As others have said the music is a bit jarring against the action/trippy slow mo stuff.

Blondeshavemorefun · 28/07/2018 20:33

Agree it’s a power thing. Don’t think lesbian as such

Tho a lot of naked washing scenes

So miss apple was a common wrench 😉 before a snow has a posh accent

ellenanora5 · 29/07/2018 16:53

I'm none the wiser after the third episode, I spend most of it trying to figure out where I've seen the actress playing Irma before.

Yes who is Ms McGraw

And that religious teacher and her brother are bloody weird.

icelolly99 · 29/07/2018 17:54

She's been in Home and Away apparently! I'm trying to avoid Wiki etc as I don't want any spoilers. I've done that before (A Place to Call Home) and was annoyed with myself for doing so!

rosy71 · 31/07/2018 16:49

I just watched the first 3 episodes last night and really enjoyed them. I read the book years ago but all I remember is that the girls mysteriously disappeared. I also thought it was a true story but google tells me the book was written as if it was with newspaper extracts etc so that must be where that thought came from. Looking forward to the rest of the series.

hattymattie · 31/07/2018 17:51

Please will someone tell me what Irma whispered to the French mistress just before she left. I didn't quite catch it.

rosy71 · 31/07/2018 18:52

We rewound that bit several times. I think she said either "I hate Miranda" or "I hit Miranda".

AppleYumYum · 31/07/2018 21:44

Yes I heard it as "I hate Miranda"
