I have knitted an Outlander cowl, but I could already knit. Does that make it better?

Now you all got me thinking about going on a night out with sam and cait. You are right it would be awesome. And of course they would want to go on a night out with us (as opppsed to the crazy midwesterners with dodgy tartan) because... well because fantasy!

Btw (not obsessed or anything) if he really is gay do you think that may paradoxically make their scenes together more authentic? Because there would be a lot less awkwardness to be naked Together for hours on end, therefore more trust, therefore more intimacy, etc etc

AKAmyself · 25/10/2017 13:58

Divergent speaking of knitwear... did anyone else looooove the big chunky scarf/shawl/cape thing Jamie wears in episode 6 (presumably Meant to signify middle age as I don’t recall him wearing anything more than a linen shirt in previous seasons). I wanted it so bad I could almost feel it under my fingers

CiderwithBuda · 25/10/2017 14:09

Lessstressed - I'll see you outside to settle the matter! Grin

I loved that cowl Claire wore too. And I can knit sort of. Might give it a go some time.

AKA- yes it was a lovely scarf.

Lessstressedhemum · 25/10/2017 14:30

Mmmm, the scarf was lovely, made him all snuggly. it was a non tartan plaid thing, I wpuld love one to wrap myself up in..

Aka, that's a good point, actually. They seem to trust one another a lot and there is a lot of nakedness. It must be easier if you don't have to worry about actual attraction. I don't think I could even touch him without exploding ovaries, dont know how Cait does it.

I am sure that's why loads of them are Peakers as well.

What's a Peaker?

NecrotisingDisaster · 25/10/2017 14:42

lol that the obsession on these threads is somehow healthier than Americans who are obsessed with the show! There are extreme fans of all nationalities.

And what you find okay I might think is too extreme, e.g. The woman who spent months and months recreating Claire's wedding dress so she could own it. I thought that was way off when I saw a friend like it on FB but my friend thought it was fine.

I don't think descending into anti-Americanism is helpful to discussing the show.

DryWhiteagainW · 25/10/2017 14:45

Oh dragonfly jewellry ! Must get some Grin

BONKERS !!!!!!

I actually think all the over analysis is spoiling the magic for me a bit. Just seen the Twitter thing from @Outlanderwriters (are these the actual writers or a crazy group) showing the script of the photo scenes and saying they're disappointed that SH didn't follow the action instruction th "break down and cry"....... Poor bloke.

I just like the show. I also like a lot of other shows. Confused

I'm excited to see what happens next and how the books I've read/skimmed appear on screen.

And I'm a bit Confused at the continual use of the word Sassernach.......having discovered on here that it's an insult I'd be pissed off if my husband continually referred to me as "bloody English scum" ........

And, yes, signet ring is a sign of a posh toff, usually baring the family crest.

Lessstressedhemum · 25/10/2017 14:53

It's not anti-Americanism, its just a kind of general pissed-off-ness with folk who think it's somehow all right to pry into personal lives and make judgements etc. It just so happens that most of that part of the fandom are American, in my experience THe wedding dress is very beautiful, but things like that just seem to take over peoples lives. Like the lady who hadn't read anything non Outlander related for about 15 years. Each to their own though. Whatever gets you through the day.

A "Peaker is someone who is taking part in "My Peak Challenge", which a brilliant initiative off Sam's to help people get fitter and become the best version of themselves while raising money for Bloodwise.

OP posts:
SenecaFalls · 25/10/2017 14:57

Oh it involves physical fitness? No wonder I didn't know what it is.

SenecaFalls · 25/10/2017 15:00

I have a Claire cowl. A friend knitted it for me, you know, to keep my neck and shoulders warm here in Florida.Hmm

NecrotisingDisaster · 25/10/2017 15:57

Haha SenecaFalls i always imagined you lived in upstate New York! I am way too literal.

LonelyOversharer · 25/10/2017 16:02

I made myself a pair of arm warmers! Mine are bright magenta merino, and are divine if you have long arms and shrunken jumpers. I highly recommend making some. I almost made the boars hunt shoulder thingy, but stopped myself in time! All the patterns are on ravelry. Just saying!

For me it's pure escapism. I'm under no illusion about it, but I just love it! I actually know someone irl who is enough physically like Jamie to seriously disrupt my wellbeing. It's quite difficult, I have to see him quite often! He looks right through me, just as Jamie would do!

I've never dipped into fan fiction, I've got quite an obsessive personality, and that way madness lies!

NecrotisingDisaster · 25/10/2017 16:03

LessStressed don't get me wrong, I have no time for people questioning his sexuality; it makes zero difference in terms of my appreciation of his acting skills. I just don't find casting aspersions at fat, Midwest housewives comes off well.

CiderwithBuda · 25/10/2017 16:09

There appear to be particularly avid fans of many nationalities. I don't think it's anti American per se.

I need arm warmers. Went shopping for some jumpers yesterday and put back about three I liked that came with stupid three quarter length sleeves. It's coming into winter. I'm buying jumpers. I want my arms to be warm!

The Peak Challenge is a great example of a celebrity using his or her fame for good. Encouraging people to get fit. And raising money.

SenecaFalls · 25/10/2017 16:14

Haha SenecaFalls i always imagined you lived in upstate New York! I am way too literal.

Fair assumption. I've had this username so long that I tend to forget its original reference. But no, I grew up in coastal Georgia and have lived in Florida most of my adult life.

JamieFrasersArse · 25/10/2017 16:15

*Apparently, when he was cast, Sam dropped all his social media while it was cleansed of incriminating gay relationship stuff. Then he was rebranded as a stud muffin and relaunched.

Who even cares about this stuff?*

I don't care whether he's gay or straight but if that story is true, then it's pretty bad that producers felt that he needed to do that. If he was out before then why couldn't he just continue to be out? It's 2017 FGS, actors shouldn't have to still hide in the closet!

CourtneyLoveIsMySpiritAnimal · 25/10/2017 16:17

Am I the only one who doesn’t fancy SH in real life at all? I wouldn’t look twice if I saw him in the street.

It’s more Jamie I prefer who happens to have SH’s face and the kilts, breeches and boots.

iamdivergent · 25/10/2017 16:22

I only like Jamie, Sam is a bit meh for me. I had a thread a while back in Chat about it lol.

I'll get cracking on with my practicing. Dd2 wants a ravenclaw scarf too.

AKAmyself · 25/10/2017 16:24

Divergent I just had to order a ravenclaw scarf for my daughter Grin. She is 9.

AlbusPercival · 25/10/2017 16:29

How old is fergus meant to be now?

Claire called him a fine young man or similar, but surely he must be 30 odd? Much older than Jamie when she married him?

CourtneyLoveIsMySpiritAnimal · 25/10/2017 16:32

Feel the same about Richard Armitage. I only like him as John Thornton.

I avoid all the Outlander cast interviews and don’t follow them on Twitter. I don’t care who’s gay or straight and I don’t want to know what they’re like in real life either. I don’t care if Cait or Sam are sleeping with each other or anyone else because I’m older than 12.

Sometimes the internet is brilliant and sometimes it’s like a conduit for all the crazy.

I think I situate myself halfway between all out crazy and cool dispassionate consumer of the finite product. I am fascinated by the making of this show (because I love it) and am genuinely interested in the people behind it. Look, I even care about the romance between Ron D Moore and Terri Dresbach: mobile.nytimes.com/2015/04/19/arts/television/behind-outlander-on-starz-true-hearts-in-the-highlands.html

Pls don’t kick me out Smile
