That's crazy! It's the same with all the fandoms to an extent.

snozzlemaid · 25/10/2017 10:05

Some really don’t know how to leave the actors’ private lives alone.
Why they feel they have the right to comment on their sexuality or relationships is beyond me. By all means enjoy and love their work but the rest is nothing to do with us.
I hate it when fans cross that line. I feel it tars all of us with the same brush.
Interestingly, Sam has commented on Twitter that it was his decision not to cry when seeing the photos. The breakdown was scripted but that was his interpretation of it. He thought more would have been too melodramatic.

quirkychick · 25/10/2017 10:09

I really dislike the word fan/fanatic, I can really enjoy something without becoming unbalanced I hope Grin.

The whole reason the tv show is so good is that they are good actors, they are acting. Why do some weirdos people not get that?

On another note, thanks to whoever recommended Black Sails, I'm really enjoying it and it saw me through last week with no episode. Just finished Season 2.

LonelyOversharer · 25/10/2017 10:24

quirky season 3 of Black Sails is v good. It does start to get a bit batshit, but keep an eye out for Woods-Rogers. He's not got a nice part, but I think he's very pretty, and there's an almost outlander type moment with him.

aka I reached the too much Outlander it's taking over moment yesterday! I'm going to watch series 3 of Lucifer, and just wait for monday! I try not to watch you tube stuff, and don't touch twitter or outlander fb, so not completely gone yet!

Lessstressedhemum · 25/10/2017 10:34

Lucifer is fabulous! Tom Ellis is very easy on the eye as well.

My Dd has confiscated my tablet because she is fed up with my patheticness and is trying to save me from myself.

OP posts:
quirkychick · 25/10/2017 10:35

That's good to hear Lonely.

I have watched some YouTube stuff, but am staying off the twitter and FB stuff. I'm quite interested in what the actors say about their roles but agree some fans are crazeeeee!

DryWhiteagainW · 25/10/2017 10:36

Just lost a long post gah!

Right, finished second viewing and I loved it. Wigs didn't bother me so much. Young Ian has a big forehead IRL anyway. Can't wait to see him with his father next week.

I don't read any forums..........the thing is some people seem to forget that these are actors and its PRETEND.......gay/straight , straight/gay, baddie/goodie etc, it's all acting. Loonies the lot of them.
And, it seems to me that the main reason they think SH is gay is because he wore a signet ring on his little finger in S2 Hmm NUTS!!!!!
And Lord J? Is the actor getting any grief? Hmm

Less I think R Poldark wears his tricorn pretty well..............

Also, the photo bit, and Jamie's reaction is fine. Poor bloke's head must be exploding, so much to deal with. He's in shock, must be figuring out how to sort the mess out and must feel petrified of loosing Claire again. I thought it was endearing how he wants her to stay near him at all times as if he's scared she'll suddenly disappear.
But why oh why does he leave her alone? Because we know the bloody woman is incapable of following instructions ("stay here") and always gets into trouble!

Lessstressedhemum · 25/10/2017 10:47

Dry, I can't get pass Aiden Turner wearing a Redcoat uniform, but yes he is a fine figure of a man.

The signet ring is a main one and then there is the social media stuff, Apparently, when he was cast, Sam dropped all his social media while it was cleansed of incriminating gay relationship stuff. Then he was rebranded as a stud muffin and relaunched.

Who even cares about this stuff?

OP posts:
iamdivergent · 25/10/2017 10:49

Dry that made me think of Richard Castle in Castle - "Stay in the car," Richard- oh I'll get out and have a look/catch the criminal/get shot/kidnapped etc Grin

Fans can get scary crazy

AKAmyself · 25/10/2017 10:51

I’ll admit to having watched loads of interviews with Sh and CB on YouTube. I do love their chemist irl, she’s super funny and articulate and he’s kind of shy and goofy and often sounds like he has no clue what to say, they play off each other really well and I think you can see they have a great working relationship.

FWIW I do think it’s ebtirely possible that sh is gay, and it’s entirely irrelevant. He is perfect as Jamie, he’s a brilliant actor improving all the time, he is clearly working his ass off in the gym and on the set to bring this character alive and do him justice.

His public persona on twitter and in interviews is lovely, polite, funny, supportive of the cast and crew and of his fans.

I just hope, if this is the case, that he and cb don’t have silly clauses in their contracts preventing them from revealing their sexuality as that would simply be too sad.

Lessstressedhemum · 25/10/2017 10:55

See, I think he might be, as well. But I dont care. He is smoking hot, a great actor and seems like a genuinely nice man.
However, he has a longterm relationship with MacKenzie Mauzy, who is much younger than he is. It would be unutterably sad if that was because he wasn't allowed/didn't feel he could admit to being gay.

OP posts:
AKAmyself · 25/10/2017 11:02

That’s exactly what I mean It would just be too sad.

I also find it impossible to understand how the fact he is gay (if he is) would make him any less of a fantasy romantic hero. I mean ffs, it’s a FANTASY. It’s not like any of us has got a realistic chance to shag him anytime soon anyway.

AKAmyself · 25/10/2017 11:07

I was in the twilight fandom for a while back in the day (pls do not judge me!), and people got CRAZY about the whole Robsten. Legitimately insane. It was actually quite scary to observe how people seem to be incapable to compartmentalise fantasy. I mean I have an obsessive tendency when it comes to romantic fiction (else I wouldn’t be here) but most of the time I know what’s real and what’s not Smile. Many people get totally consumed

Lessstressedhemum · 25/10/2017 11:09

Of course they do, Aka. All those fat frumpy 50something American housewives with their sassenach car stickers, dragonfly jewelry and fake tartan frocks stalk him everywhere because they just know that Sam is only waiting to meet them, shag the pants of them and become truly happy.
I am sure that's why loads of them are Peakers as well. Because one look at them doing so well and he will be swept of his feet.
Apologies if that seems a bit nasty, but it really, really rips my knitting.

At least I am aware that my sad little fantasies are just that.

OP posts:
AKAmyself · 25/10/2017 11:17

I agree with everything you said except the last part. Your fantasies are not sad! They are what you mean to nourish yourself and allow you to function irl. This is the conclusion I got to for myself. Sometimes I need the escapism, sometimes I need the stimulus to reflect on what really matters. For example, The later outlander books have been essential to my thought process around what it means to stay married and committed for the long haul.

iamdivergent · 25/10/2017 11:22

AKA I was also in the Twilight fandom - that was crazy!

It's good to have a bit of escapism in your life, it's what gets me through the day with a grumpy toddler and an even grumpier teenager. Sitting down to watch Jamie and Claire and the clan (I was going to say gang but clan is more appropriate here) is my relaxing time.

AKAmyself · 25/10/2017 11:35

At least I don’t feel the need to read or write outlander fanfiction... yet!!!

Lessstressedhemum · 25/10/2017 12:02

DG strongly discourages fanfic, so at least there is none of that to suffer through Grin
I am much to old for Twitlight, but DD tells me it was absolutely mental. Why do some people seem to be unable to draw an appropriate line between fantasy and reality?
The older books are a great example of how to sustain a marriage, I think, but I also think that maybe they show up the deficiencies in real life relationships as well. And maybe give some folk unrealistic expectations. I have a very difficult marriage and I use Jamie and Claire as a bit of an escape, to be honest. They have the kind of relationship that I would like to have.
I say my fantasies are sad because I am constantly ridiculed for my Outlander obsession in here and made to feel bad about it. Buy, hey ho, i am the bigger personSmile it's a break away from three grumpy teens (one with ASD), an autistic adult child and an unhappy relationship. Whatever gets you through and Sam's bum certainly does that!

OP posts:
AKAmyself · 25/10/2017 12:07

I don’t mean to moralise Less but all of this is nourishing to you and it sounds like you really need it. So people can make fun of you all they want but you’re the one who has Jamie (figuratively speaking undortunTely).

cannot compare my situation to yours but I work in a really dry analytical job and my soul craves fiction. I would die without it!

And I love love love the communities that build around this, such as ours :) we are not sad!

AKAmyself · 25/10/2017 12:40

But back to serious business :)

I truly do not get the hoo-ha about the photos scene. I actually didn’t like that part in the books, it sounded absurd and far fetched.

CiderwithBuda · 25/10/2017 12:41

Well the bonkers fans can just have their fantasies. Because once he meets me he is mine. All mine. He is just waiting for a funny, sexy, overweight 53 year old Irish woman to complete his life. Grin.

He and CB do really see to get on well and have great chemistry and laughs. I reckon a night out with those two would be hysterical.

The obsession with either proving he s gay or that he and CB are together is crazy. I sometimes think they must cringe at some of the stuff they read and hear. It reminds me of the obsession with certain fans trying to prove two of the One Direction boys were secretly together. I fell down a massive rabbit hole on here last year just reading all the stuff in sheer bewilderment. Just unbelievable.

LouiseBrooks · 25/10/2017 12:53

it seems to me that the main reason they think SH is gay is because he wore a signet ring on his little finger in S2

Apart from the fact that surely it was the character of Jamie wearing the signet ring, rather than Sam the actor (ie. it's a prop) to me it just means a bloke is posh. At least it usually does in England. Of course I could be behind the times and it might mean something else now.

But who cares anyway? He's gorgeous and that's all that counts.

iamdivergent · 25/10/2017 13:02

Cinder I'd love to go on a night out with them, they'd be hilarious!

I'm going to rewatch Friday probably. I'm really looking forward to starting the books once this season is over too. I have books 1-3 and dh is getting 4-6 for my birthday Grin I'm a bit sad hat I'll never own Claire and Jamie bobbleheads - they are mental expensive!

Lessstressedhemum · 25/10/2017 13:13

I think they would be hilarious as well. They'd be brilliant drinking partners.

Louise, that's what I thought, too. I thought it was probably a "family" ring because Jamie was Landed gentry and was v. posh.

Oh god, the 1D thing. Do you remember the fake baby one where one of the boy's was supposed to be pretending his gf was pregnant or something? What are people all about.

Buda, I am sorry, he is mine! I am only 51 and I am Scottish, so clearly I win.

OP posts:
iamdivergent · 25/10/2017 13:24

Had to Google what landed gentry was Less

I must confess that my obsession has led to me taking up crochet in the hope that I will one day (not too far away I hope!) be good enough to make Claire's infinity scarf and arm warmers from the early episodes Blush Grin
