Just watched 4 episodes of Turn after hearing about it on here. Quite enjoyed it, though grown up Billy Elliot has nothing on Jamie.

MoNigheanDonn · 04/11/2017 07:20

She is still writing it afaik seneca (is your name a HG reference btw?) There are a few extracts on her website.

quirkychick · 04/11/2017 08:40

Omg, I have just googled Steven Cree, did they just deliberately choose the most unflattering wig or what?

Seneca I binge read the books over the summer, so really recently, but I read them on Kindle and they all merged into each other. I'm not sure which one is which iyswim. I did reread Voyager, so I could focus on this season. There are so many strands of plot, some of which get picked up in later books, so are easy to forget tbh. I think the show tries to cut those out or pull them together, to make them more cohesive. For instance, the whole Claire/Frank/Brianna bit is in loads of flashbacks over the books but they fleshed it out in Season 3 instead (and got rid of the weird fake gravestone plot).

He is a fine specimen of a man in rl isn't he

gamerwidow · 04/11/2017 10:06

Steven Cree extremely funny on Twitter too. It makes me like him even more!

MoNigheanDonn · 04/11/2017 10:07

Ooh will need to follow him thanks gamer

Hello lassies! Ive been awol this week and only watched the last episode twice which is telling. Have finally caught up , thoughts:

Why do I like Outlander (and the books) so much?
Because it's escape. I watch Houseof Cards, Homeland and loads of other shows that are all a bit too close to real life, and a bit depressing tbh.
I love a period drama.
I love a story of an enduring, loving relationship, because, actually they do exist.
I like the writing of the show.
Jamie is fabulous ofcourse...."the King of men" embarrassing, but true

The books?
Yes they go on far too long, yes DG has some VERY odd ideas (syringe made out of snake fangs anyone?), yes I skip a lot....but I actually liked the day to day stuff, having the books plodding along in the background of my life. And I liked the characters (I like Dottie, Hal, William, Rachel in the later books.....had also totally forgotten the Campbells)

Fraser Ridge?
Once over the shock of J and C leaving Scotland I realised that FR is, for all intents and purposes, Scotland. Same landscape, sane people etc.....

So there......it's a proper bodice ripper with goodies and bodies, a bit of romance, lots of drama....what more can you want?

Poor Nell. Jennifer has aged well......bit stouter. Steve C is great.

Can't wait for next episode.

DryWhiteagainW · 04/11/2017 10:31

Baddies

Jenny

Same , not sane, people!

Bloody auto correct

snozzlemaid · 04/11/2017 11:48

Think you’ve got it in a nutshell there Dry. I wholeheartedly agree.

Whatthefoxgoingon · 04/11/2017 13:48

Goddammit I thought I was the only who could see beyond Steven Cree’s ridiculous wig and powdered face and now there’s all you fangirls coming out of the woodwork. He’s mine I tells ya, go back to your Jamie worship WinkGrin

MoNigheanDonn · 04/11/2017 14:30
Grin
SenecaFalls · 04/11/2017 15:03

is your name a HG reference btw?
No, it's a reference to the town of Seneca Falls, NY.

I read the early books nearly 10 years ago. I don't care to read them again but I do have them on kindle now so I can word search salient bits as the need arises.

quirkychick · 04/11/2017 15:06

Seneca I bet we all have similar bits bookmarked Grin.

SenecaFalls · 04/11/2017 16:49

I just took a look at Stephen Cree's twitter page. Quite interesting. Evidently, he has upset an Outlander fan, who is also a fan of the President of the United States, with some of his political comments. There's another internet rabbit hole for me to go down. Smile

snozzlemaid · 04/11/2017 17:50

I’ve seen him have to defend his right to have political opinions on there before. Some people seem to think actors should have no opinion in such things.
But he is very very funny. I love reading his tweets to SH and CB. When one of them does a q&a he always asks silly questions.

SenecaFalls · 04/11/2017 19:20

As a politics and news junkie, I'm interested in most people's political views. It's silly the way some people think that actors should be apolitical like the Queen.

OK, just 8 hours until midnight and the new episode.

snozzlemaid · 04/11/2017 19:46

Lucky you. We’ve got a long wait until Monday. Sad

DryWhiteagainW · 04/11/2017 21:10

Yes a pain, but I love working Monday's and knowing that I have a treat when I get home

Lessstressedhemum · 04/11/2017 22:19

My children have taken to calling us my Mumlanders!

OP posts:
SenecaFalls · 04/11/2017 23:00

Mumlanders. I love that!

SenecaFalls · 05/11/2017 05:54

Well, that might be my favorite episode yet. Smile

A lot of emotional intensity very well acted.

snozzlemaid · 05/11/2017 07:31

Ooh good. I'm looking forward to this one. Will enjoy seeing Jenny again.

quirkychick · 05/11/2017 07:50

Oh, good, I was kind of dreading it as I find that bit in the books all a bit much.

There's a trailer for Episode 9, The Doldrums on YouTube. It's the bit on board ship with Claire being asked to go on the "plague ship".

MoNigheanDonn · 05/11/2017 08:04

Haha I love mumlanders Grin just saw a pic on instagram...oooooooh

AKAmyself · 05/11/2017 12:20
