To be fair she had an affair first. They do seem an odd match though.

Ken's hair is like a helmet

Kannet · 29/07/2018 06:47

I don't think ken is likeable at all. He seems to look down on all his neighbours. Not sure why his character has stayed around.

Wendy Croooooorzier is as unlikeable as the bint David married after Karen in Cold Feet.

CoolCarrie · 30/07/2018 15:49

And so ends Alan Bradley reign of terror on the cobbles!

cloudyweewee · 30/07/2018 15:50

Compare it with the dragged out shite Phelan storyline!!

HelenaDove · 30/07/2018 15:54

These episodes are so much better than the current ones (which i havent watched for years. Just seeing the trailers is bad enough.

HelenaDove · 30/07/2018 16:03

the directors and producers of the soaps today all seem to think they are Martin Scorsese.

cloudyweewee · 30/07/2018 16:15

Indeed. Pity Robert de Niro doesn't live in Weatherfield.

ToffeeNosed · 31/07/2018 05:14

So, Alan Bradley famously gets his due on the tram tracks. I remember it was big news at the time. I dont know how I remembered it, it was over in a flash and that odd ending zooming in on Rita's face for the end credits (what no cobbles?).

I'd forgotten Bet Lynch had been there, suprised she didn't knee him in the nuts. Maybe now they'll stop with the "he's not that bad, he only thumped her" (and tried to suffocate her with a pillow and threatened to glass Percy Sugden).
An end of an era. Now the shouty McDonnalds are in and it becomes like Eastenders I'll probably stop watching.

strawberrisc · 31/07/2018 06:50

Compared to modern Corrie it WAS dragged out as there was only one episode a week. Can’t believe I’m onto my second Christmas in the blink of an eye!

southeastdweller · 31/07/2018 07:31

There were three episodes a week back in December 1989.

Kannet · 31/07/2018 07:53

It does feel like the end of an era as classic Corrie started with Alan Bradley's arrival.

And next month sees the arrival of Steph and Des Barnes, so yep - it’s definitely the end of an era.

BluthsFrozenBananas · 31/07/2018 10:50

In December 1989 it went from two to three episodes a week.

Did anyone else spot Steve McDonald’s Viz black bag t shirt? I was 17 in 1989 and Viz was huge, that t shirt was excatly what teenage lads were wearing. I bet someone in the wardrobe department had a teenage son.

SuperSuperSuper · 31/07/2018 11:47

Steve's first scene in the shop with Sally and Audrey yesterday - wonder if he thought he'd still be acting with those two 30 years on.

I was a teen in 1989. Lots of my friends fancied him, as well as the Mark actor and Terry Duckworth. These days, as a single mum in my 40s, I would go for a reliable and decent man like Alf!

Kannet · 31/07/2018 11:48

It's Steph Barnes that convinces Kevin to shave his moustache. Weird what you remember

OP posts:
SuperSuperSuper · 31/07/2018 11:50

I remember Des saying that he would heat up his cup of gone-cold tea in the microwave, and Phyllis (by then his cleaner) being aghast. Strange thing to remember!

SallyCinnamon3009 · 31/07/2018 12:44

Didn't Phylis become a bit of a surrogate mum to Fes after a few years? I remember them being quite close.

Loved seeing Alan and the tram. My first memory of Corrie is watching that with my grandma (Rita) and grandad. I was only 6

Kannet · 31/07/2018 18:41

How many houses where built across the road. Was it just four? Gail buys one, Mavis and Derek and des Barnes's who else

OP posts:
BluthsFrozenBananas · 31/07/2018 19:48

Looking on the wiki there might only be three houses (it’s not that clear), with the rest of the buildings being industrial and retail units, some with flats above.

Kannet · 31/07/2018 21:55

I always assumed there there two lots of two semi detached, but three are three houses.

HelenaDove · 01/08/2018 01:46

Alan was told where Rita was and he found her and was killed all in the same episode.

If this was today it would have been dragged out for a whole week in five episodes screened at 9pm.

Rebecca36 · 01/08/2018 02:23

It was pretty hairy though. I nearly jumped out of my skin when he found his way into Rita's hotel room and found poor Bet who must have been scared out of her wits.

What I have noticed in Classic Corrie is how kind Bet was. Whoever had a difficulty, she was always there to help. Lovely character.

SuperSuperSuper · 01/08/2018 10:12

Agree 100% HelenaDove (re the dragging out).
