I feel it rather stretched credibility that Dawn would be drinking in the Rovers without Mike. Their flat isn’t anywhere near by, she doesn’t have any friends in the street and she would run the risk of encountering Alan.

cloudyweewee · 25/07/2018 19:43

Dawn is another seriously crap actor.

BluthsFrozenBananas · 25/07/2018 20:38

She is that. Her brother was the prison governor in Bad Girls.

SuperSuperSuper · 25/07/2018 23:18

The Dawn actress is quite poor. Almost as bad as her lookalike who played Susan. Poor Johnny Briggs must have been longing for an onscreen partner who could act.

EdithWeston · 26/07/2018 07:19

"what a revelation who knew she could really act (unlike the dross she has been given for many years)"

Not a revelation eg for those who watched first time round. And it's true of several characters today where good actors (yes, even Dec, if you compare to his early days) are just wasted on the trite and shallow.
It's one of the great weaknesses of the current Corrie.

Watching the unfolding of the Ken/Wendy affair is unsettling, as it just rings so true. one nasty little accurate detail is how Deirdre thinks everything's OK because Ken's affair happiness just makes him nicer all round

BluthsFrozenBananas · 26/07/2018 07:59

I feel there’s been a sense of “realness” in both the Alan story and Ken’s affair. Both stories have been allowed to play out over time with lots of small, low key scenes gradually building up a picture.

I bet Johnnie Briggs was delighted when Mike ended up back with Alma. Thinking about it nothing about his realationship with Dawn rings true, there’s no chemistry between them at all. The actresses playing Dawn is weak, but the part is completely one dimensional as well. SHe has no personality at all.

How orange was Mike Baldwin's face?

kikashi · 26/07/2018 16:01

I don't think things have changed enough since the Rita/Alan Bradley story. This is just one example from today's papers where the guy got off extremely lightly (I see examples everyday)

Shame we know Rita is alive and Alan Bradley this time is not guilty - evil though he may be.
I can imagine when it was first shown, because corrie was such an institution and regularly watched, no spoilers to be seen, the tension must have been affecting everyone who watched.

Kannet · 26/07/2018 19:41

I can remember my parents discussing the story's line. My dad thought she was dead

I am glad Baldwin got his comeuppance after screwing over the factory workers.

SuperSuperSuper · 26/07/2018 22:32

Mike Baldwin treated his staff like scum. Emily was the only one who received any respect at all (and that was minimal). He was kind to Ivy when Brian died, but his day-to-day attitude was abysmal.

"The girls" grates on me too, but lots of characters use that term, not just Mike.

The Ken/Wendy storyline is gripping. So intelligently written.

Mark Eden continues to be brilliant, as does Thelma Barlow. Such quality.

Interesting that Eddie felt he had to hide his single dad status in order to attract Tina. I'm glad times have moved on.

sparklepops123 · 27/07/2018 15:47

Crikey,I'm glad I'm not staying in that hotel Rita's singing in

MrsSteveMcDonald · 27/07/2018 16:34

sparklepops123 · 27/07/2018 16:52

Are you really that much in to Jim ? 🤔

MrsSteveMcDonald · 27/07/2018 16:55

He's my FIL, that would be inappropriate Wink

sparklepops123 · 27/07/2018 17:42

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 27/07/2018 20:13

Will he be out of make-up by Monday (in the early episodes he's wearing more than Liz , so he is)

Ontheboardwalk · 27/07/2018 23:44

I went to Weatherfield High with Steve. Ken was our English teacher

cherrytree63 · 28/07/2018 01:45

I felt so sad for Deirdre when she apologised to Ken for thinking he was seeing someone else.

BluthsFrozenBananas · 28/07/2018 14:08

Right now Ken makes my skin crawl.

kikashi · 28/07/2018 16:00

I really hated Ken back then - such a snob and felt he was intellectually and morally superior to Deirdre. I never understood what she saw in him.
