I really thought reg was mid nineties. I was surprised to see him

kannet I thought that Reg was mid 90's too. Really enjoying it - how menacing and well acted were the scenes with Rita and Alan when he was telling her what kind of woman she was. I missed a lot of these back in the day as I worked long hours or was out and about. Great stuff!

TheWayAlfLooksAtAudrey · 19/07/2018 15:48

I don't watch tv but tuned in to this today after catching a bit last week and loving it. It's been a lovely blast from the past. Mad how young some of the ones I thought were old biddies probably were - Emily, Mavis etc.
I love it! It's my new Murder She Wrote and way funnier obviously.

SuperSuperSuper · 21/07/2018 22:09

Reg is brilliant. I also think that Wendy Crozier is very well written and acted. And the Alan/Rita story reaches its conclusion soon. I'm going to enjoy the next few weeks.

strawberrisc · 22/07/2018 09:46

Wow! Just caught up on this amazing thread from start to finish!

I’ve been watching them all but am a bit behind on this chat so forgive me but I’d love to add a couple of things.

For all of you who fancied “Our Terrah” he was thick on Corrie but really is very different in real life. Look at this!

nigelpivaro.com/about/ VERY clever man!

Also check out Lynne Perrie (Ivy) on “The Word” when she was sacked from Corrie for having a facelift!

confusedandemployed · 23/07/2018 20:25

Is anyone else finding the Rita /Alan storyline incredibly disturbing watching? Only 30yrs ago and he got off after trying to murder her and Rita's now being dismissed as a drunken old lush out for revenge. And I know Jenny was his daughter but I have a very hard time believing she really thinks her dad is whiter than white.
The messages the whole storyline is giving is really unsettling me now I'm a grown up: that women who have experienced DV should expect to live in fear for evermore, that blokes who commit DV can expect to get off scott free (Blackpool trams excepting). I've had to delete a good few eps without watching.

Kannet · 23/07/2018 21:22

I have been thinking that. It's not easy watching. I would hope that attitudes have changed

You'd better be aware it gets worse next week then

BluthsFrozenBananas · 23/07/2018 21:41

I agree about the Alan Bradly story, it’s the way everyone is now starting to think maybe he’s not so bad and Rita’s just making a huge fuss. I also found the whole thing with Tina and the builders very depressing, especially the ‘pep’ talk Bet gave her where she basically said men can do anything they like to you because they’re bigger and stronger and all women can do is keep their chins up.

SuperSuperSuper · 23/07/2018 22:50

Yes, the "barmaids are fair game, what do you expect" narrative. Depressing.

Interestingly, it was Percy (1920s born) who remonstrated with the builders at the outset. He was also one of the first to decry the racism Shirley faced when she started dating Curly.

Mark Eden is a wonderful actor. His menace (and Mavis' fear) when he came in to buy the chocolate was superb.

Redglitter · 23/07/2018 22:53

Alan Bradley is a great character. He's horrible and menacing without actually doing anything illegal. Even buying a paper & chocolate he came across as a villain. That slow deliberate way he talks....

Mark Eden played that part brilliantly

kikashi · 24/07/2018 07:36

I agree that Mark Eden was fantastic as Alan Bradley and the scenes brought out the best in the other actors too - Thelma Barlow looked pertrified and Rita! what a revelation who knew she could really act (unlike the dross she has been given for many years).

Kannet · 24/07/2018 15:41

Do you think bill roache was dying his hair. It looks very similar in colour to Wendy's

cloudyweewee · 24/07/2018 16:20

I was thinking the same! When they were snogging, you couldn't tell which head was which. Grin

TakingBackMyLove · 24/07/2018 18:24

Love this thread and the show. Random musings:

What redeeming features does Alec Gilroy have? Bet could surely do better! LTB

Sally is very pretty

Kannet · 24/07/2018 18:38

And Deirdre is far better looking than Wendy.

I can't stop trying to figure out people's ages. I want to know Emily's, Mavis Rita's and Vera's age. They seem so old but surely they are only late forties or early fifties.

sparklepops123 · 24/07/2018 19:04

Ken and Wendy are 🤢

MrsSteveMcDonald · 24/07/2018 19:31

Ken has no redeeming features, at least Alec seems to love Bet but Ken sees Deirdre very much as lesser to him

MrsSteveMcDonald · 24/07/2018 19:34

Actor ages:
Emily 58
Mavis 60
Rita 56
Vera 50

Kannet · 24/07/2018 20:47

Wow. Mavis seems so much younger than 60.

OP posts:
TakingBackMyLove · 24/07/2018 21:16

I love Mavis and Derek the most.

SuperSuperSuper · 24/07/2018 23:42

I preferred Emily's hair long, and swept up. The short "set" style is so ageing.

Audrey looks older I think. Gorgeous, but older. Enviable figure.

Tracy's quite babyish for 13, a bit like Summer nowadays.

Enjoying the Ken/Wendy storyline and can't wait for the Blackpool scenes.

Curly and Kimberly are cute.

Mark needs a storyline. Can't recall if he ever gets one. He reappeared briefly a few years ago as Miley's grandfather/Jackson's dad but with a new name unfortunately!

cherrytree63 · 25/07/2018 08:57

I only got into soaps in the 90s, just love classic Corrie!
Shocked at how sexism was just "normal" back then.
I was surprised that Mike Baldwin gave Alan Bradley the time of day after what he did to his girlfriend Dawn.
If it's not a spoiler, does anyone know if Mike ever met Adam? And does his other son (was it Mark? that Susan met through playgroup) ever reappear?

Kannet · 25/07/2018 09:05

Yes they all come into it eventually. I hunk mark ended up being a "badun". Didn't he try and sleep with mines wife.
