I do love this show but they ALWAYS choose families who spend stupid money anyway so saving 50/80/100 a week is easy

Wonder if they will ever use a family who spend 60 a eeek and went to reduce to 40/50 and that £10/20 really help the family

But I still love it

I've done that quite a lot. If my fussy DC didn't like what I was making for DH and I, I'd just buy some sliced meat and make some instant gravy, put it all in an oven dish, cover and heat through, serve with frozen mash, peas and corn and a ready made yorkshire and voila! instant roast dinner grin

Genius! Im gonna steal this idea off you!

packofshunts · 09/11/2017 11:05

Yes actually rather than spend a lot, (say on a beef joint), which I then annihilate with crap carving skills; it does make sense to occasionally buy slices and heat in gravy. I would still do all the trimmings fresh.

caroldeckershair · 09/11/2017 12:54

Thanks @BarbaraofSevillle

I’m also cross at the stopping and starting.

My kids love this programme. There’s nothing shocking or nasty about it. It’s got a supportive feel and a calmness about it.

We have made a few of the recipes and have the cook book.

HouseworkIsAPain · 09/11/2017 13:11

I looked for it too last night. Am strangely hooked on the programme. Probably because my family eating habits are shit - this gives me inspiration as the recipes seem doable and not too fussy to prepare.

alexjr · 09/11/2017 14:55

Tuned in to watch it this week and it was not on, so disappointing. The series is far too short.

megletthesecond · 09/11/2017 14:59

Oh, I assumed it had finished. So we've got another three to go on Thursdays, unless they change the night again.

The dc's enjoy EWFL. I get lots of sheepish looks from them. And "but we're not fussy!! We just don't like.......... "

BarbaraofSevillle · 09/11/2017 15:12

I also like the sister programme Shop Well for Less where they do the unlabelled swap things with fancy shampoos and face creams and you get to watch in amusement as an 'it has to be Clinique' person says how lovely Aldi face cream is or how shit their designer shampoo is when they don't actually know it is that brand.

Best one was a couple who were bankrupting themselves because they spent nearly £200 on champagne for dinner parties and they swapped it for Aldi cava and they liked it better than their £30 a bottle champagne that they had previously served.

caroldeckershair · 09/11/2017 20:29

Hopefully there will be some kind of ‘xmas for less’ we can all scoff at Grin

I’m like a moth to a flame!

HouseworkIsAPain · 09/11/2017 20:43

Oooh Shop Well for Less you say. Going to go search it out now.

martiniescutcheon · 09/11/2017 20:50

I agree with BarbaraofSevillle re the stopping and starting of this series. I watched the first few episodes in May ish of this year and suddenly it wasn't on but I put it down to Wimbledon fortnight and looked for it afterwards but no sign of it for ages until recently.

Went to watch last night and it's not on again, so annoying, maybe the beeb is going to drop it.

Blondeshavemorefun · 10/11/2017 06:42

Yes on thur. Why they swap it 😡😡😡

And agree @barbara about the shop well one is good. Just goes to show that sometimes the packaging makes you buy

Compared to plain jars

I love Lidl shampoo. Think it's 69p

So where did it go? After the mum and her daughter Zizza it has just disappeared into fresh air!

Cagliostro · 08/12/2017 22:59

Damn I was hoping the thread meant there was another episode

TheScottishPlay · 08/12/2017 23:02

Ah, me too. Love it.

Ilovetolurk · 08/12/2017 23:03

Theres the itv rip off one good food with Susannah involving kitchen bins and fridge raiding if you’re having withdrawal symptoms

maddiemookins16mum · 09/12/2017 07:30

I saw a Christmas one from 2 years ago on Good Food a few days ago.
The family spent £268 on a Boxing Day buffet normally but once that renowned chef Gregg Wallace showed them how to make soup, coronation turkey and the like, all was well.
It was a good episode.

BikeRunSki · 09/12/2017 07:46

The EWL series that has just finished was the end of a series that started in the summer, which is why it seemed very short.

Iflsido · 09/12/2017 21:08

But at the end of the single mum one they showed the next episode would be about a couple who had computers all over their kitchen. I think they WFH and I have a hunch they spent too much in food but goddamit I want to watch it!

I will seek out the knock off one now!

siblingrevelryagain · 10/12/2017 19:52

The opening titles show a black woman with a bob and a beardy bloke, who haven't been on yet. Can't understand why it's stop-start, and why they would hold off on showing the last episode? Bizarre

Iflsido · 11/12/2017 18:39

Yes! That's the one I'm missing.
