I do love this show but they ALWAYS choose families who spend stupid money anyway so saving 50/80/100 a week is easy

Wonder if they will ever use a family who spend 60 a eeek and went to reduce to 40/50 and that £10/20 really help the family

But I still love it

You can tell a person doesn’t know a thing about tea when they drink PG Tips.

When I left the UK I spent about a year working through my PG tips that I'd stockpiled before moving house, and then ran out, and got Twining's Assam at the French supermarket. I'm not missing my Tips quite so much now Grin And if I'd stayed in the UK I might never have known!

I drink PG Tips. DH gets it for free from work so I don’t care if it’s shit, free tastes good Grin

agree, i went off pg tips but have recently gone back to them owing to them being on special offer.

Just watching last night's on catch up as in Scotland we were "treated" to an episode of Council House Crackdown on BBC1 instead. God knows why.

Thought it was very telling that it was the 15 year old who contacted the show to ask for help, and it was great that the girls were stepping up and doing a lot of the cooking too. The fussy dad was the main problem too and the mum being a total people pleaser - buying what she thought the family would like rather than what she thought they should have. The "marks out of 10" thing was horrendous.

Dad was a quanity surveyor or similar, was out of the house 6am to 7.30pm which was why Mum was doing all of the cooking. This programme isn't about "how to eat well for as little money as possible", and if it were, it would get boring. It's good that they mix up different types of families in different circumstances.

JustDanceAddict · 26/10/2017 12:13

Before I read this I thought ‘the husband is a complete dick’.

packofshunts · 26/10/2017 18:16

I thought it was very uncomfortable viewing in terms of watching the dynamic of the couple.
My ‘twat’ radar was going mad Hmm

TeachesOfPeaches · 26/10/2017 19:47

Came here to see if anyone else found the dad a total arse. I Imagined the wife being one of those that posts about her DH earning a high salary so she doesn't have to work and being lucky to live in a big house and spend what she likes - the reality looked awful.

MrsJamin · 26/10/2017 22:39

What was with all the trips to the supermarket per week? I think she had issues about who she was and what she was doing in life, she needs a hobby and interests of her own!

Blondeshavemorefun · 26/10/2017 22:49

Tea is tea

Don't get those who are fussy 😂😂

Cheese is cheese tho strong is a must

I love this show its generally 'lovely' fluffy viewing, but I was so incensed by the dad and so upset by the mum in this weeks episode I started a thread in Aibu.

Awful at the very least controlling twat of a dad. She needs to get rid.

haveagobletofblood · 27/10/2017 01:17

LTB on a thread about Eat Well for Less - I really love MN Grin😂

PollyHasAKettle · 27/10/2017 07:28

I only saw the last 15 minutes, was there an age difference? what did dad do for a living?

I did wonder that as well because he did look extremely young is some of the shots. It wasn't her grey hair (I have grey hair) or the fact she perhaps looked older, it was definitely him looking young.

I can't see the what others have said about him being controlling etc but I did notice that no one said thank you to the mum when she put a meal down to them. They just sat there and that made me sad for her. I wouldn't allow that at home but then again no one would ever not say thanks mum, or thanks mum that looks smashing.

Slartybartfast · 27/10/2017 07:47

yeah, dad had a Baby face may be?

Trills · 27/10/2017 08:55

I think he just has a face that will look about 12 his whole life

PollyHasAKettle · 27/10/2017 10:28

He's 54

WaxOnFeckOff · 27/10/2017 13:58

Ach I thought it wasn't on this week (Scotland) but they just seem to dump in episodes whenever they feel like it with gaps of months at a time so just thought it was that. I'll go on catch up tonight. :)

BertrandRussell · 27/10/2017 22:46

First time I can remember when the man didn't do anything in the kitchen at all. But lovely to see the woman gaining confidence- I think Greg and Chris were giving her massive pep talks between takes! ?And they obviously loathed him......

InigoTaran · 28/10/2017 00:20

Just found this thread!

I tried the bacon and egg bites they made in the episode with the single mum with 5 kids and it was lovely, especially in a brioche bun! I follow it in twitter and they posted the recipe there.

packofshunts · 28/10/2017 09:34

One thing that didn’t make me cross about Wed’s episode was that lovely one pot beef meal she made.

Typically no recipe - does anyone know how she made it?

BertrandRussell · 28/10/2017 09:42

No need of a recipe for that. Brown the beef. Put it in a pot. Pack it round with vegetables. Half fill pot with stock. Slow oven for a couple of hours.Check every half hour or so and top up the stock if necessary. If you want, you can take out the meat and veg at the end, keep it warm and thicken the gravy. Serve with lots of cabbage.

PollyHasAKettle · 28/10/2017 09:43

Re the beef. It was just beef that she'd browned off in a pan and I suppose she would have then browned of all of her veg which was root veg and I suspect she'd have onions in it as well. Once that was done she just added beef stock.

packofshunts · 28/10/2017 09:47

Yuuuumeee! Thank you, that’s tomorrow’s lunch sorted. What oven temp do you reckon?

BertrandRussell · 28/10/2017 10:02

When I make this, I put whole picking onions (peeled, of course), in.

A whole chicken with a mixture of white wine and stock, vegetables and lots of fresh herbs is gorgeous too.

BrutusMcDogface · 28/10/2017 20:56

I've just started watching this and came here to find a thread.
