I do love this show but they ALWAYS choose families who spend stupid money anyway so saving 50/80/100 a week is easy

Wonder if they will ever use a family who spend 60 a eeek and went to reduce to 40/50 and that £10/20 really help the family

But I still love it

The dad is coming across as a right awkward arse…you can just tell Hmm

worrywart98 · 25/10/2017 20:53

Awkward viewing! The dad is definitely coming across as an arse "it's been so easy" - like he's done anything different! I feel sorry for the mum/wife. Reckon she's deffo a mumsnetter

Raisedbyguineapigs · 25/10/2017 20:56

I wonder how she will cope if the kids really do start to do their own dinners and she finds out that they actually aren't that bothered about having a million snacks? I got the impression that a lot of her identity was based on her being the perfect mum and wife, doing everything to keep the husband and kids happy. The dad is so patronizing 'Well done'?

laketaupo · 25/10/2017 21:02

She sounds and looks like Binky's Mum Blush
I would advise her to LTB for some of his comments.

worrywart98 · 25/10/2017 21:11

I agree lake. I was thinking that her life is a long AIBU thread waiting to happen

cheesydoesit · 25/10/2017 21:11

Yes Guineapigs I thought the same thing regarding her identity wrapped up in being a mum and wife. Maybe she will have some fun and do a Shirley Valentine?

Dozyoldtwonk · 25/10/2017 21:31

There was something about the set up that was very…formal. Something seemed off. misses the point of programme

jay55 · 25/10/2017 21:33

Harder to watch this week, the massive house in Surrey, the massive budget and overflowing cupboards.
They could have made meals out of what they already had for a week or two.

Raisedbyguineapigs · 25/10/2017 22:41

I think the issue with this programme is that with food prices rising, actually getting people who are spending #60 a week on their shopping bill down to #40 would just be so difficult, without it becoming quite depressing. It's far easier to get people who buy loads of brands and overbuy food to just stop being so stupid about it.

WeatherDependent · 25/10/2017 22:41

I agree that the family dynamic seemed off. The husband came across as a massive cock.

My DH said that if he spoke to me like he did he’d be wearing his dinner Wink

Ollivander84 · 25/10/2017 22:43

I would be happy if someone made me chicken nuggets, waffles and beans 😂😂

Seriously, when I was in hospital I ate everything because it was SO nice not to have to cook for myself. The catering staff seemed bemused and kept bringing me food and tea, it was great Grin

PollyHasAKettle · 26/10/2017 04:56

Why would people need to take spices out of the labelled bottle they were bought in and replace them in another bottle then write the name on the label?

PollyHasAKettle · 26/10/2017 04:59

I didnt find anything 'off' about the family dynacmics. I thought the mum just wasn't herself/comfortable in front of the camera,

PollyHasAKettle · 26/10/2017 06:10

I cant see why that would make it harder to watch unless people were viewing it through the eyes of the green eyes monster.

They could have made meals out of what they already had for a week or two

Thats what they did. They used ingredients they already had plus a few bought in items to make the new meals.

jay55 · 26/10/2017 07:56

It wasn’t about being jealous, it was that it made no difference to that family if they spent less or not which makes a less engaging show for me and harder to pay attention.

PollyHasAKettle · 26/10/2017 08:22

How can you say it didn't make any difference?

I think you must have sat there with your eyes closed if you didn't see the difference it made on more than one level.

ScarletSienna · 26/10/2017 08:31

The Mum didn’t seem uncomfortable in front of the camera, I thought she came across well. Unlike her husband.

The only thing I find annoying about this programme is how the swaps come from multiple shops which would be a pain in the arse to actually get.

Imfinehowareyou · 26/10/2017 08:39

The swaps come from multiple shops to show the viewers that savings can be made at any supermarket. The family can just buy the alternatives at their preferred shop.
The mum and girls seemed lovely. The dad didn't cook a single meal Shock

colonelgoldfish · 26/10/2017 09:03

I'm catching up now. So far I like the mum. I can see why she does the bulk of shopping and cooking with her DH doing such long hours and her working part time with 2 teenage DC. But as for the fussiness and scoring out of 10 comments - that's just not on.

I find the dad quite camp in his mannerisms.

LemonysSnicket · 26/10/2017 09:19

You can tell a person doesn’t know a thing about tea when they drink PG Tips.

Slartybartfast · 26/10/2017 09:22

i only saw the last 15 minutes, was there an age difference? what did dad do for a living?

Raisedbyguineapigs · 26/10/2017 09:23

I can't see how anyone can be accused of being jealous of someone so harangued by her family that she has to cook 3 meals a night, piles a trolleyful of treats into her house because she thinks 'a mums job is to make everyone happy' and even then gets marked out of 10 as if she's a slave. The volume of food in the house was due to her being made to jump through hoops by her husband.

Slartybartfast · 26/10/2017 09:23

i noted how the dad wanted a child free holiday Shock ltb

Slartybartfast · 26/10/2017 09:24

i have to cater for different tastes in my household. some veggie some not. carnivores very anti having no meat.
the middle ground is tuna - so we have a lot of that

obviously not strict veggie

ScarletSienna · 26/10/2017 09:47

Across the whole series they can show there are options in different shops so I still find it silly that they say ‘you really liked this tesco cheese, this Aldi coke, this Lidl chicken and these Asda crisps’. Yes it shows they should try other things but it just makes me roll my eyes every time!
