I do love this show but they ALWAYS choose families who spend stupid money anyway so saving 50/80/100 a week is easy

Wonder if they will ever use a family who spend 60 a eeek and went to reduce to 40/50 and that £10/20 really help the family

But I still love it

Yes I said about the shop thing

They need to shop in the families chosen shop

Tho as always if a family of buying brands all the time then they will Obv save money buying shops own stuff

The show said she worked in social housing. I think she is a widow as she was wearing both her rings. She could have got her money from husband's life insurance or an inheritance etc plus she works full time and perhaps she lives in a cheap area.

BrieAndChilli · 11/10/2017 22:15

I think they use a variety of shops so they can’t be accused of promoting one particular shop over another.
To be honest most supermarket brands are on a par eg basics range, next range up etc and so going from a branded item to a supermarket own is going to be a saving regardless of which supermarket you choose.

BrieAndChilli · 11/10/2017 22:16

I’m surprised they didn’t mention all the electricity empty freezers is up, she would save money just by putting empty boxes in it!

Gre8scott · 12/10/2017 08:08

The reason the swap at all different shops is to show the varity in the shops as not every town has everry supermarket thats what Chris said about it when asked why in an interview

PaddingtonLoverOfMarmalade · 12/10/2017 10:08

Why are people querying her income? Housing associations (if this is what they mean by social housing) employ accountants, hr managers, chief executives and more. Her children said she works every day from home in addition to office hours.

PoundsShillingsPence · 12/10/2017 19:42

It's BBC so they can't be seen to be promoting one supermarket over another. I don't think they actually expect people to shop in half a dozen differenent supermarkets each week - they are just making the point that chepaer options are available and not to be afraid to try them.

JustDanceAddict · 13/10/2017 09:10

Totally agree re the coke thing. Water from tap is free and so much healthier!

PoppyPopcorn · 13/10/2017 13:53

This programme always shocks me that there are people who know SO little about basic cooking. I'm not meaning cordon bleu style, but the basics of making a spag bol or stir fry. Things my 12 year old could have a good bash at.

Also the short order cooking which so many families do - differnet meals for every member of the family. Stuff that for a game of soldiers.

DaisyRaine90 · 13/10/2017 14:11

My mother used to do it. The cook to order thing. That’s why we lived on easy cook foods. I just cook one meal. Like it or lump it 😂

Christmastree43 · 13/10/2017 17:51

I think maybe she had a husband or partner who didn’t want to be on telly as they said ‘the six of you’ at one point maybe when they were talking about the holiday she was planning, rather than just the Mum and five girls?

I thought it was funny at the time

PoppyPopcorn · 13/10/2017 17:53

Mum and five girls = six....

They repeatedly referred to her as a single mother of five girls.

NapQueen · 14/10/2017 11:51

Loved that they had that reaction to polenta pizzas.

If she is a director in social housing she would be on at least 90k and thats up here in the North East so maybe more further down south.

Cagliostro · 14/10/2017 11:55

Signing in as I always enjoy shouting at the telly watching this show

BarbaraofSevillle · 14/10/2017 13:14

You don't have to go to all the supermarkets every week.

You rotate them and stock up on non perishables if you have a variety available. I pass several different supermarkets on the way home from work and go to Aldi the most but sometimes top up in Morrisons, Asda, M&S or Tesco and have a quick look to see if there are any good offers on as there's loads of branded goods that are always on offer somewhere so there is no need at all to ever pay full price.

If you shop online, again rotate around and you often get sent money off coupons for the ones you haven't been to for a while.

Can save quite a lot compared with buying the same things from the same supermarket once a week.

Blondeshavemorefun · 17/10/2017 21:27

Sains seem quite exspensive to me compared to Tesco Lidl and aldi

That gammon stir fry looked awful!

Blondeshavemorefun · 18/10/2017 19:30

YES it did !!!

They should have done slimming world campfire pork or whatever it is called 😂

Wonder what bad habits the family will have tonight

I really like the plain packaging they use, very minimal and clean looking. Much less busy for my brain. It feels very KonMari! Grin

PurpleDaisies · 18/10/2017 20:51

I've really enjoyed this week's episode.

cheesydoesit · 18/10/2017 21:02

Yes they were a lovely family. Gregg annoyed me when the nutritionalist was making that sweet potato patty, did anyone else catch him leaning over her and fiddling with the oven hob??

Slartybartfast · 18/10/2017 21:08

What charming boys with their great mum

HolyShmoly · 18/10/2017 21:08

Did anyone else's screen go wobbly at one point near the end or was that just me?

I'm not surprised that she changed her tea, PG Tipps is hardly a strong brew.

PelvicFloorClenchReminder · 18/10/2017 21:20

Loved this week's episode. I'm going to try that turkey sausages with paprika instead of chorizo idea.

HouseworkIsAPain · 18/10/2017 21:32

That was a great episode, wish they had recipes available on the website.

Is there a book to go with the series? Will it have the easier recipes in it?
