I do love this show but they ALWAYS choose families who spend stupid money anyway so saving 50/80/100 a week is easy

Wonder if they will ever use a family who spend 60 a eeek and went to reduce to 40/50 and that £10/20 really help the family

But I still love it

Certainly not blaming her parents but I think it does raise questions about why she literally had no clue about the cost of food or couldn’t even cook even the simplest meal. Confused

maddiemookins16mum · 02/11/2017 09:19

I just never really understand how some of the participants (I shouldn't highlight the women specifically but hey...), get to their 40's etc with such poor cooking/shopping skills. They seem educated enough but have no idea about such very basic skills.
I also found myself tutting at the DD reclining practically on the sofa eating a meal although did note they sat at the table for the (dry with no gravy) roast beef. Plus the DD had adult portions too.

It doesnt raise any questions for me. Her father seemed capable and it could just be that she left home and anything she'd learned there soon went out the window.

HouseworkIsAPain · 02/11/2017 11:29

I thought the cooking think could be from her dance training. I imagine she lived on her own and did easy and snacks food. Plus there would have been pressure to weight under control.

I can see how it would be easy to fall into a habit of M&S food and no actual coooking, but to spend as much as she did, she must have pots of money to not realise how much it was costing?

InigoTaran · 02/11/2017 13:49

Haha so many pp wanted the recipe for the lemon and poppyseed muffins they’ve posted it on Twitter! 😀

dogsdinnerlady · 02/11/2017 20:27

She obvs has no truck with gardening either. Her 'lawn' was wall to wall plastic grass. No plants just artificial grass and fences.

Trills · 02/11/2017 21:01

Just started on iplayer and I feel sorry for her - she seems really scared of the whole idea of shopping and cooking and that feels like a horrible way to be.

Trills · 02/11/2017 21:53

This is a nice one because she WANTS to do better and wants their help.

Much nicer than the obnoxious husband last week.

Blondeshavemorefun · 02/11/2017 23:00

It is sad that a woman (or man) in their 40's can't cook a basic meal and even more so as her dad cooks

Anyone can read /follow a recipe

Terrible diet for a dancer and yes I thought she could eat better and healthier

And insane amount of money spent

Btw I didn't think the dad was that bad last week

Nor did I even after watching the show a second time to try and see what people meant.

jay55 · 03/11/2017 07:08

Agree, why didn’t they suggest an online shop.
The daughter looked far healthier than someone who lived on muffins and pancakes. They did say she had a lot of prepared fruit.

Dancers I’ve known eat loads, when performing and training as they use so many calories. Imagine it can be a very hard adjustment to normal afterwards.

RosyWelshcakes · 03/11/2017 12:23

It would spoil the format of the show.

hoyhoy44 · 03/11/2017 13:30

the family a few episodes ago which had the twin boys in, the Mum shopped online seems pointless not to suggest it in this instance

WaxOnFeckOff · 03/11/2017 13:39

The reason they didn't suggest on-line shopping was because it wasn't just about going into the shop. The anxiety was also about planning what to have in advance, preparing lists etc. So, shopping on-line certainly initially, wouldn't have helped. She was effectively trying to pass the buying decision to her DD in the car every day. The petrol station would have fewer options so it made it easier, as did shopping every day.

BarbaraofSevillle · 04/11/2017 11:02

Just watching the one with the Dance School woman. I'm no longer shocked by the 'before' versions because it's the extreme examples that feature on the show. But I was a little Grin at the way she made a roast dinner using packets of sliced beef. That's both bizarre and genius at the same time.

But I think the trip to a massive tesco might have been a step too far. They could have took her to a smaller proper supermarket or best of all Aldi or Lidl if she finds a giant supermarket with enormous choice too overwhelming. Or online shopping obviously.

I'd love to know how they get on afterwards and if they save a big amount over the next year.

BarbaraofSevillle · 04/11/2017 11:19

Bet she saves a fortune in petrol by not going to the shops three times a day too.

WaxOnFeckOff · 04/11/2017 18:38

I've done that quite a lot. If my fussy DC didn't like what I was making for DH and I, I'd just buy some sliced meat and make some instant gravy, put it all in an oven dish, cover and heat through, serve with frozen mash, peas and corn and a ready made yorkshire and voila! instant roast dinner :o

RosyWelshcakes · 04/11/2017 18:48

My mum was a single parent to us way way back in the 70's and sometime she would do a roast dinner for us using the pre cooked sliced beef if she go the chance of overtime on a Sunday. Id look after my sister but I wasn't allowed to cook so she'd prep veg in the morning and cook it when she got home before serving it up with the roast beef. For gravy she'd make up a gravy with the vegetable water, flour, onions and burdalls gravy salt. It was delicious.

caroldeckershair · 08/11/2017 22:10

Was it not supposed to be in tonight? Just trying to look on iPlayer but no sign?

wobblywonderwoman · 08/11/2017 22:15

No. It wasn't advertised. Not sure is the series over?

juneybean · 08/11/2017 22:18

Masterchef is back so maybe they don't want Greg competing with himself Grin

caroldeckershair · 09/11/2017 08:38

Oh! But at the end of last weeks show (on iPlayer) they previewed the next family who were WFH in the kitchen and all their computers were taking over...

BarbaraofSevillle · 09/11/2017 09:19

The last in the series is on next Thursday according to:

www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b0520lz9/broadcasts/upcoming

I find it really irritating the way they stop and start this programme at random. I know it's not a particularly popular/high profile show, and it's a very 'samey' format, but I like it and prefer it to run as a continous series like most other programmes - I haven't noticed the BBC doing this for other shows.

BarbaraofSevillle · 09/11/2017 09:20

Sorry, it's not the last in the series, there's 3 more to go according to the link.

packofshunts · 09/11/2017 10:37

Was just looking forward to having a marathon of my fave programmes last night (EWFT, Masterchef Profs & The Apprentice) when realised they’ve yet again rescheduled EWFT Angry

Still for there to be at least 1 programme I want to watch be on is a bonus!
