What are people's opinions on the new Bake Off so far? And yes, I know we're only a few minutes in. IMO the new presenters feel a bit like they're trying a little too hard to be Mel and Sue.

Opinions?

Love the illusion cake. Looks just like bread Shock

FiveGoMadInDorset · 29/08/2017 21:05

That one and the pancakes

yawning801 · 29/08/2017 21:07

I loved the bread, watermelon and pancake illusion cakes! Grin

Watching this is making me want to eat cake. I've had to compromise with the only sweet thing in the house - Nutella on toast.

leccybill · 29/08/2017 21:08

Between the watermelon and the pancakes for me.

Bubblysqueak · 29/08/2017 21:08

More bloody adverts. C4 must be making a fortune with all of the baking rated adverts. Definitely recording next week's so I can fast forward the adverts.

MsFortunaMajor · 29/08/2017 21:08

Another break at 9:06 when it finishes at quarter past? That really takes the biscuit.

yawning801 · 29/08/2017 21:09

I've just finished a mini packet of Skittles.

Glad I made coconut brownies earlier Wink cake is so necessary for bake off!!

ToadsforJustice · 29/08/2017 21:10

Dry seems to be the word of the series. No positive remarks. Mary - where are you?

mumofone234 · 29/08/2017 21:11

We did have 'rustic' earlier - a Mary classic.

yawning801 · 29/08/2017 21:13

Yes I agree with Toad - not enough positivity although Prue made some nice comments.

ToadsforJustice · 29/08/2017 21:15

Oh well. Not for me.

HairNinja · 29/08/2017 21:16

Urgh, I don't know whether I'll bother with next week. I love Noel fielding normally but he was so out of place on this. Definitely been told to tone it down but then that removes his personality. Sandi was ok but not as naturally warm as sue or Mel.
Prue was a bit devoid of personality too.
And the adverts!!!! Gah. I think I'll watch the old series again if you can find them on YouTube or something.

WillowtheWasp · 29/08/2017 21:17

In contrast to everyone else I've never watched it before but tuned in for a bit of Noel because he is gorgeous and funny, thoroughly enjoyed it and might even try some baking now Grin

yawning801 · 29/08/2017 21:17

There's the odd episode of Comic Relief Bake Off on YouTube but apart from that, very little Hair

Very happy! I used to watch it with gritted teeth as I absolutely loathe Mel and Sue (especially Sue - smug, annoying and not remotely funny).

yawning801 · 29/08/2017 21:18

Not being rude, but why did you watch it if you hated the presenters that were on screen 50% of the time Fatjilly?

BearsDontDigOnDancing · 29/08/2017 21:21

I enjoyed it.

I only started watching from season 4 anyway, but cant help but feel we are comparing a new team, who have not settled into working together, with an old team that had worked for years together, hence there might be awkwardness or people not being quite themselves until they settle in.

Not sure how Mel, Sue, Paul and Mary were to start in the first season, would have been better as Mel and Sue were a team already, but they certainly would not have had that natural warm working relationship that there was in the latter series.

Anyway, after all that waffle I enjoyed it, and it feels like the Showstoppers are more impressive in this series.

exLtEveDallas · 29/08/2017 21:21

I'm probably going to get battered for this one but ...............

I never really liked Mary. I thought she was patronising, and I've had more MB recipes go wrong than right.

So I like Pru more than Mary (so far)

Noel and Sandi seem ok (ish) but I'm a Mel
and Sue fan so it was always going to be harder for them to win me over!

LetZygonsbeZygones · 29/08/2017 21:21

Not as bad as I feared. Pru sounds like Mary. Sandi sounds like sue. Noel was sweet but needs to relax and Paul was his usual self. Was surprised they'd kept it so similar. And pleased. Watermelon, pancakes and baked loaf and sandwich were fab.

TwitterQueen1 · 29/08/2017 21:24

I still love it! Thank goodness Paul is still at the helm - he's the one steering the whole thing at the moment.

I don't know what the make-up team has done to Pru - she looks weird. I much prefer her no-nonsense, natural look.

Sandi didn't feature much and contributed very little. Noel is harmless but useless too.

The bakers are fab - such a difficult first week for them! I think they did brilliantly.

Fatjilly · 29/08/2017 21:25

Yawning Because I liked the rest of the programme...and cake :)

Cakeandmarshmallows · 29/08/2017 21:27

Help!!! Does anyone know if or wen it will be on 4od or repeat, my recording system mucked up and I missed it!!

UnicornsAreEverywhere · 29/08/2017 21:28

I enjoyed it, I've warmed towards noel I like the humour he brings to the show.
