GBBO - opinions?

What are people's opinions on the new Bake Off so far? And yes, I know we're only a few minutes in. IMO the new presenters feel a bit like they're trying a little too hard to be Mel and Sue.

Opinions?

Enjoyed it a lot more than I thought I would. Noel is just lovely with his ever so slightly scary yet oddly endearing face. Prue and Paul are a good combo. Love Sandi. Will be watching next week.

TheWeeWitch · 29/08/2017 22:06

It's a yes from me. I think Sandi and Noel will warm up as it goes on and I liked Prue. She's more stern than Mary, but she was liberal and direct with her praise when it was warranted.

I love the chap who got star baker. Bless him sobbing down the phone to mummy at the end! 😍

Butterymuffin · 29/08/2017 22:07

Is Sewing Bee not coming back then? Sad

I liked it. Prue was the one I have doubts about but she may improve. Noel will ease his way into some zanier moments.

Shoppingwithmother · 29/08/2017 22:11

When they announced that it was going to channel 4 I was all "Well I'm never watching it again!", but by the time it came around I was really looking forward to it.

I actually think I liked it better than the last series on BBC at first viewing - I really liked Noel. I do like Sandi Toksvig in general, but not sure she's right for this, however I barely noticed her presence in this episode.

Didn't think I would like Prue Leith but she was fine actually, and it made me realise that I had gone off Mary Berry a bit of late tbh.

The adverts didn't bother me, even though I barely watch anything with ads (except all the cycling world tours on itv4 which have the most dreadful ads imaginable - maybe they were just good in comparison) and it watch a good chance to get another beer without missing anything.

I and both my children were very happy with it.

MoonPower · 29/08/2017 22:28

Totally agree with WeeWitch loved the cute star baker guy too.

Also Sue had really been annoying me for a while. And Prue seems a bit more of a character than Mary.

ShatnersBassoon · 29/08/2017 22:29

I was expecting to not like it, but did, in spite of myself.

Prue Leith is a much more entertaining and interesting person than Mary Berry. My kids thought Noel Fielding was great, and I think he'll be fine once he's had more practice at presenting and relaxed into it. Sandi Toksvig is OK and funny enough when she's not scripted.

I recorded it so the ads didn't bother me. I never watch adverts.

Cakeandmarshmallows · 30/08/2017 08:05

Thank you!! Must have been tired last night I could not see any repeats!!

Cakeandmarshmallows · 30/08/2017 08:07

@sheldonesque thank you, I mist have been tired last night!! Sorry about repeat post, still working alll this out!!

Talcott2007 · 30/08/2017 08:07

I miss Mel & Sue! Sad

troodiedoo · 30/08/2017 08:11

I thought it was great, much better. But I am not a Mel and Sue fan. I wish they'd ditched Paul Hollywood but he's harmless I suppose.

Ads very annoying yes. But a chance to go to the loo, get wine and a quick MN.

Rhubarbginisnotasin · 30/08/2017 08:44

Much better than the previous format. I really enjoyed it and prefer Pru. I like her on Great British Menu

beepbeeprichie · 30/08/2017 08:54

I liked it better than I thought I would- particularly Pru.
Not a fan of Sandi in general as I find her voice rather grating.
Noel was ok although odd to see him turning down the weird. However my biggest issue with the whole thing (and correct me if I'm wrong) but did he actually try any of the bakes?!

Whatawaytomakealiving · 30/08/2017 09:01

Liked it! Presenters were fine, Noel just needs to relax and have a bit more fun with it. Hated the advert breaks. Really enjoyed the contestants and felt that the programme gave them more of a voice. They were humorous and given more time to have a personality. Loved that!

TSSDNCOP · 30/08/2017 09:02

What have they done to Sandi? She looked like she'd been to the Mary Berry school of fashion and hair?

The Noel guy is really, really stilted and his voiceovers are just zzzzzzz

Like Pru, especially her red tunic!

Will need to watch on catchup in future to kill the ads, that one 5 minutes before the end was the final straw.

Baking wise: loved the older Liverpool lady and star baker guy.

Ijustwantaquietlife · 30/08/2017 09:03

Is there anywhere to watch online if outside the UK?

Hoppinggreen · 30/08/2017 09:07

I don't think it's terrible but there is no chemistry between and of the presenters
The 4 of them in the last series seemed to work as a team whereas now it's like 4 people just happened to wander into the same studio and are doing their own thing

leccybill · 30/08/2017 09:09

DD'S verdict: 'It's still the same, I like the new man with long hair but they forgot to say Bake in a funny voice'

coldcanary · 30/08/2017 09:17

I liked it, Pru seems nice enough, Sandi is always lovely and although Noel seemed very nervous he's got a nice way of talking to the contestants. Hopefully he relaxed into it as filming went on!
The ads didn't bother me really, they managed to place them in a way that didn't disrupt the programme too much.
Liking these contestants as well!

greit · 30/08/2017 09:19

Noel will be the unexpected star of the show once he gets going.

Sandi is a bit stodgy.

Pru is excellent.

Will get rid of the ads next time.

Rhubarbginisnotasin · 30/08/2017 09:25

Where are you?

You can see it on catch up if you're in a place where its allowed.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 30/08/2017 09:39

I loved it!

PollytheDolly · 30/08/2017 09:40

Watching on my phone app. I'm loving it. All of them. Pleasantly surprised.

PigletWasPoohsFriend · 30/08/2017 10:23

Over 6 million viewers last night apparently

augustusglupe · 30/08/2017 10:24

I loved it too!! I love them all...I was never a big Mary fan and overall I think the shake up has worked.

Orangebird69 · 30/08/2017 10:31

Not sure about Sandi but Noel was a pleasant surprise - he seems a bit shy and awkward but I'm sure he'll get into it. I also very much liked his shirt! Always liked Pru Leith so quite happy there and arrogant twat that he is, Hollywood is a brilliant baker and a bit fit imo so I'll be watching next week. But only the recording. Bloody adverts do my head in.
