CAUTION - HERE BE DRAGONS (PROBABLY) AND SPOILERS

THIS THREAD IS FOR DISCUSSION OF SEASON 7, EPISODE 6 "BEYOND THE WALL"

Come and discuss the fifth episode in the penultimate series, airing August 21ST at 2am UK time! Don't read the thread if you want to avoid finding out what happens in Season 7 but also Seasons 1-6. This is the penultimate episode this series!!

Please avoid discussing leaks and production details for Seasons 7 and 8 but speculate away on what we have learnt from the new episodes and what it might mean for the rest of the Season and the ultimate winner(s) of the Game of Thrones. There is a spoiler thread running here if you want to talk about production leaks and insider information as well

As a little warm up for later, HBO have just released a little teaser for tonight's episode here

Yeah I'm confused in the Benjen front too.

bluegrape · 26/08/2017 23:43

I think that Sansa executing Little Finger for treason makes sense. She's worried about the other Lords (and Ladies) of the North losing faith in the King of the North while Jon isn't there.
As Jon said to Tyrion, 'she's starting to let on' that she's a smart lady - she's her mother's daughter. I think she'll turn out to be more like Catelyn than Little Finger bargained for.

OlennasWimple · 26/08/2017 23:46

I'm pretty certain Benjen is properly dead this time, though I did see someone point out that he also has a sliver of dragonglass in his heart like the NK, so you never know....

Benjen strangely hasn't deteriorated at all from his last appearance.

Mustang27 · 27/08/2017 00:01

It seems like such a waste to kill him like that. I felt he had a bigger part to play Hmm.

Oh god the Sansa/Arya plot is actually giving me the biggest fear. I think it's the one with the most potential to be disappointing maybe.

Does anybody else really not want Jon and Dany to get it on?? I mean on hotness factor they are up there but it just seems so painfully obvious to what used to feel like really clever scriptwriting in the past.

bluegrape · 27/08/2017 00:04

I do not want Jon and Dany to get together.

I'm thinking hoping that when they land, Jon will witness one of Dany's homicidal purges and will think again.

KentMum2008 · 27/08/2017 00:07

I absolutely do not want Jon and Dany to get together. My fear however, is all the talk of successors and Jorahs speech to Jon about passing the sword to his children, means that not only will they get together, but that everyone's assumption that they're both barren will be proved wrong. Maybe it's magic or something and they could only ever have children with each other?

She'll get pregnant, and then they'll both find out they're related. She won't care (weren't her parents bro and sis?) but Jon will be creeped out. Maybe the baby will be the song of ice and fire, the one the whole story is about and the one who'll end up ruling the seven kingdoms in peace. That would require a flash forward of a good few years though, but it's not entirely impossible.

KentMum2008 · 27/08/2017 00:08

Sod it, I'm gonna write a book. I have some good ideas lurking around in this brain of mine Grin

bluegrape · 27/08/2017 00:11

There is no way that Dany is getting on a dragon and flying into battle if she knows that she's pregnant.

KentMum2008 · 27/08/2017 00:12

Oooh could be a Harry Potter style ending....19 years later Grin
Really hope this happens. I want Arya as her Queensguard please, and a really old, grumpy Tyrion as her hand. Sam can be the Maester.
Sansa can fuck off because she's annoying, she can stay in Winterfell.
Bronn can suddenly turn all religious and be the Septon 😂

KentMum2008 · 27/08/2017 00:13

No, but I think at that point Jon will be able to ride the dragon.

bluegrape · 27/08/2017 00:14

Yes maybe.
I can't see a happy ending for Dany and Jon though.

bluegrape · 27/08/2017 00:16

If Jon is Azor Ahai would he plunge his sword into Dany's heart?

KentMum2008 · 27/08/2017 00:17

Oh no, me neither. I think they'll both die next season tbh, which is why the baby will end up Queen. Although not sure how that works, do they have a Queen Regent? Someone who fills in until they're of age? Who might that be? I need to think this through some more....

bluegrape · 27/08/2017 00:21

Sansa could be Queen Regent.

bluegrape · 27/08/2017 00:23

I don't want them to have a baby, but I think the mention of Dany's fertility and the succession mean that it's definitely on the cards.

KentMum2008 · 27/08/2017 00:25

Yes maybe Sansa, although I do t think she'd willingly give up power if she ever got on the throne.

bluegrape · 27/08/2017 00:26

I think she'd give way for Jon.

I'm saying queen, but they could quite easily have a boy. I can just imagine Jon with a little baby girl though 😍
They'll name him or her a combination of their parents names so Lyanna and Rhaella if it's a girl (Rhaeanna or Lyaella, both of which are cute!) and Aerys and Rhaegar for a boy (this ones harder Aegar or Rhaerys, not quite as cute but still works)

Mustang27 · 27/08/2017 00:49

I'm so glad it's not just me as all my rl chat revolves around me looking a bit meh about Jon and Dany and everyone looking at me like I have grown a set of horns lol.

AryaUnderfootNowPrefersSansa · 27/08/2017 07:54

I think Jon and Dany as endgame monarchs is just so cliche. I can definitely see them getting together, but a happily -ever-after ending for them with lots of lovely and unexpected silver-haired long-faced dragon pups is just so sickly sweet.

The show relationship seems really forced as well. Just because someone is good-looking, does not mean a heterosexual member of the opposite sex automatically has to fall for them. The on-screen chemistry just isn't there IMO. There's more chemistry between the Hound and Tormund.

The 'dying in childbirth' troope has been done to death as well. I'd rather see a widowed Dany give birth and decide to forsake the throne for a life in Pentos rather than dying in childbirth. It would be bittersweet without cliche.

It seems pretty obvious at this point that she is getting pregnant. There have been so many mentions of her being unable to have children over and over again this season. I'm not sure whether the showmakers want us to be surprised or not....

KentMum2008 · 27/08/2017 09:48

I think they're expecting regular viewers (mere mortals) to be surprised when Dany gets knocked up, but they must know there's a small, but powerful, contingent of all-knowing, wise old crones 😂

Trills · 27/08/2017 09:54

Have you been reading a lot of Twilight recently mangomay? :o
