THIS THREAD IS FOR DISCUSSION OF SEASON 7, EPISODE 6 "BEYOND THE WALL"

Please avoid discussing leaks and production details for Seasons 7 and 8 but speculate away on what we have learnt from the new episodes and what it might mean for the rest of the Season and the ultimate winner(s) of the Game of Thrones. There is a spoiler thread running here if you want to talk about production leaks and insider information as well

TooExtraImmatureCheddar Feast is one of my favourite books - probably second only to ACoK. I know a lot of people hate it, but I love the emphasis on some of my favourite characters.

Jaime's chapters are great and really show his character growth. Favourite moments include him smashing Red Ronnet Connington in the mouth, him giving Pia the head of the man who raped her and him calling Sybell Spicer a 'turncloak bitch'.

I love Brienne's chapters - particularly her travels with Septon Meribald and her conversations with the Elder Brother (who seems to be a far better therapist than Ian McShane could ever hope to be). I'm so glad Stranger was never gelded!

I also liked the subtle hint that she's a descendent of Dunk's (don't know if you've read the Hedge Knight or not).

I think Ser Shadrich could turn out to be trouble for Sansa in the next book. I doubt the hair dye is going to fool him.

I must say this book really made me rethink my opinion of Bronn - I really don't like his book character.

Starting to get excited now for Sunday....

Ah and sad Olenna, I'm not ready lol.

AryaUnderfootNowPrefersSansa · 26/08/2017 07:59

This season has seemed really short. Oh well, at least we won't have to wait 5 years for another one (or 6 or 7).

bluegrape · 26/08/2017 12:23

I've been thinking about Bran handing the dagger to Arya.
Was that to defend herself?

CeeBeeBee · 26/08/2017 12:59

Blue, Bran knows that Arya is a skilled assassin so I think his gifting of the dagger to her is something to do with killing Littlefinger. She has passed this on to Sansa after her game of faces with her, showing Sansa that she's on the same side. I reckon Sansa will order the execution of Littlefinger and Arya will do it.

ChevalierTialys · 26/08/2017 14:03

I reckon Sansa will order the execution of Littlefinger and Arya will do it.

Ooooooh I hope so!

yumyumpoppycat · 26/08/2017 14:11

I think the dagger maybe is used against Bran or Arya in one form or another (NK?) and he has foreseen this - I am purely basing this on a slight look of regret after he handed it over which I might be imagining

Will Arya then put on LF's face and pay Cersei a visit?

DH suggested this back when Bran initially gave Arya the dagger. It would be great if it happened.

I'm guessing it would have to wait until season 8 as Winterfell is a long way from King's Landing........ Sratch that - she could probably get there in a couple of hours.

CeeBeeBee · 26/08/2017 14:34

Hope so Euphemia.

yumyumpoppycat · 26/08/2017 14:37

Oh yes! That would be great if it goes like that and they work together on it.

Trills · 26/08/2017 18:54

I reckon Sansa will order the execution of Littlefinger and Arya will do it.

What about Ned Stark's belief that the one who passes the sentence should swing the sword?

Jon sticks by it, will Sansa?

CeeBeeBee · 26/08/2017 18:59

Perhaps Sansa will, the knife is in her possession....

CeeBeeBee · 26/08/2017 18:59

Monday morning can not come quick enough!

yumyumpoppycat · 26/08/2017 19:08

oooh interesting point trills. {hopping with excitement now}

AryaUnderfootNowPrefersSansa · 26/08/2017 19:18

Ned Stark's words were that "the man who passes the sentence should swing the sword".

Sansa was raised to be a highborn lady and nothing else. She was not trained in arms or swordsmanship. The fact that she could not or maybe would not want to personally execute someone either using a knife or a sword should not be held against her.

Of all her multiple deficiencies as a character, I don't think this is one of them, and wouldn't make her any 'less' of a Stak in the eyes of the North.

Trills · 26/08/2017 19:21

Ned Stark was assuming that only men would be in a position to pass sentences. Mistakenly.

Trills · 26/08/2017 19:23

I don't think that it would be a "deficiency in character", I'm just pointing out that there's a history of this kind of thing being taken seriously.

MehMehAndMeh · 26/08/2017 19:27

I think Arya carrying out Sansas execution order could work on multiple levels.
The weapon Littlefinger used to stir up so much trouble being the end of a major troublemaker.
If the execution is very public it could reinforce the idea amongst the quibbling lords who don't want their girls trained to fight that girls other than Brien can be highly competent.
Plus it also reinforces the message that the remaining Starks are not weak and easy pickings.

Trills · 26/08/2017 19:35

They need to find a way to use their different skills and experiences in complementary ways, maybe this is it.

KentMum2008 · 26/08/2017 19:38

I'm starting to feel a bit jittery about Monday......it's ridiculous isn't it, but I know after Monday there's no more for a LONG time. And there just isn't anything out there to fill the void.

AryaUnderfootNowPrefersSansa · 26/08/2017 19:39

I think Sansa needs to honour Ned's belief that she should look him in the eye and hear his final words before deciding if he deserves to die. I think Arya carrying out the sentence would be very fitting - she gets to exact justice rather than vengeance which is what she needs to be doing if she's to retain her identity and humanity.

AryaUnderfootNowPrefersSansa · 26/08/2017 19:41

mangomay - don't worry, someone will leak the plot of season 8 by Christmas. The filming locations will give away whether they are real or not so we can spend the next 18 months debating them.

DispatchReady · 26/08/2017 22:15

Ok back from hols and watched it twice! I thought it was very beautifully filmed as usual but this really annoyed me:

when they were all on the dragon with Dany - why didn't someone yell at her to fire at the NK?!!! Frustrating! She could have totally annihilated everything but didn't! Still lots of them left!

the Benjen thing was just too convenient! And he is no more - yes?

also think really Tormund should have died!! He spent ages being gripped by wights and nothing happening then the random extra just got swallowed up easily!

Have no idea what's going to happen with Arya and Sansa!

Jon saying Dany was just cringey!! I thought he said darling at first!

Apart from that I liked it - but do feel that it's going to be a bit of a disappointing conclusion as it's just rushing along too fast!!
