CAUTION - HERE BE DRAGONS (PROBABLY) AND SPOILERS

THIS THREAD IS FOR DISCUSSION OF SEASON 7, EPISODE 6 "BEYOND THE WALL"

Come and discuss the fifth episode in the penultimate series, airing August 21ST at 2am UK time! Don't read the thread if you want to avoid finding out what happens in Season 7 but also Seasons 1-6. This is the penultimate episode this series!!

Please avoid discussing leaks and production details for Seasons 7 and 8 but speculate away on what we have learnt from the new episodes and what it might mean for the rest of the Season and the ultimate winner(s) of the Game of Thrones. There is a spoiler thread running here if you want to talk about production leaks and insider information as well

As a little warm up for later, HBO have just released a little teaser for tonight's episode here

I was wondering if it might be Viserion - I was thinking about how viserys died - as probably Dany will have to end Zombieron (anyone got a good name for him?)

KentMum2008 · 21/08/2017 11:28

Viseriundead? Bit of a mouthful 😂

OlennasWimple · 21/08/2017 11:38

I surprised myself by how much I enjoyed the Jon / Dany scenes. I have never been a shipper before, but the two actors have real chemistry, and make the storyline feel not completely outlandish

How did Gendry, town dweller, never been north before, never seen snow before, run back to the Wall without getting lost?

Trills · 21/08/2017 12:00

Jon and Dany has zero chemistry up til this episode though.

Then suddenly - what?

And Emilia Clarke is about 5 foot 2, she can't exactly be heightist when picking men.

Trills · 21/08/2017 12:01

I enjoyed the hiking in the snow having a chat.

Trills · 21/08/2017 12:02

I'll be sticking to this thread because people who watched early can't necessarily be expected to not talk about other spoilers, whereas this is the thread for "up to episode 6 and NO MORE".

ChaircatMiaow · 21/08/2017 12:07

Trills are there more spoilers? Has the season finale been leaked also?

yumyumpoppycat · 21/08/2017 12:08

I like Viseriundead more than Zombieron!

It was a bit mad that Dany ran to the rescue but it's one of her better moments recently - and it's true they do need to know about the army of the dead, and the dragon probably would have still been taken eventually.

It does feel like things are being a bit rushed now though. I also am not keen on how things are going with Arya - spiteful is a good word, although there was a fair bit of logic in what she said.

notgivingin789 · 21/08/2017 12:11

I was about to cry when the white walker killed the dragon Sad.

What happened to the other dragon ?? I thought there was two left ???

Trills · 21/08/2017 12:14

We're always talking about which THREE people will ride dragons... But now there are only two for "good guys" to ride.

("good" here is anyone who's not undead, and even then you can be a little reanimated and still count...)

mrsstephentoast · 21/08/2017 12:34

I thought that one of the 7 fell off the island behind Jon Snow and got gobbled up by the Wights - was that the body of Paul Kaye's character? #confused

Trills · 21/08/2017 12:37

I think they took along some redshirts with them to drag the sled.

AdalindSchade · 21/08/2017 12:37

Viserys died from burning and viserion died by ice
Drogo died from infection and rhaegar from robert's hammer...clues?

yumyumpoppycat · 21/08/2017 12:44

Adalind I am wondering about a crown of fire when zombie dragon is destroyed by Dany - presumably night king will be riding him into westeros soon.

So the hammer could be important?

KentMum2008 · 21/08/2017 12:50

Chaircat the entire plot of season 7 was leaked on Reddit last year. I know a few people who have read it (ha, read it on Reddit 😂) and apparently it has been spot on so far. Luckily, they're nice people who won't tell unless you beg (which I haven't) but yes, there will be people out there who know precisely what happens next episode.
The night is dark and full of spoilers, as they say.

Trills · 21/08/2017 13:09

Luckily, they're nice people who won't tell unless you beg (which I haven't)

Just like all of us book readers throughout seasons 1-4. :)

I was pleasantly surprised that there wasn't at least one twat in the comments of every article popping up saying "Ned Stark dies" or similar.

ZacharyQuack · 21/08/2017 13:14

Arya is treating Sansa exactly like the blonde Faceless Man girl treated her at the House of B&W. She's getting really tedious.

KentMum2008 · 21/08/2017 13:17

I've always liked Arya, but she really pissed me off today!

OlennasWimple · 21/08/2017 14:27

mrsstephen - they burnt Paul Kaye's body, the person who feel off the island was a random expendable wildling (whose only purpose on the expedition was to die there)

Summerisdone · 21/08/2017 14:45

The part where Dany got all awkward and 'fuck I've put my foot in it' when she mentioned how short Jon was really made me laugh.
It's exactly how so many of us truly react when we say something innocent but then realise it could be insulting to the company we're in, and then try to back track even though it's too late Grin

Olennas, I too did wonder how on earth Gendry had managed to navigate back through the snow so quickly without getting lost, especially when he's never been in snow before and not really much of a tracker to be able to find his way Hmm

TheHiphopopotamus · 21/08/2017 15:04

But Gendry runs all the way back to the wall; then a maester sends a raven all the way to Dragonstone; then three dragons fly all the way across the continent to beyond the wall? IN A SINGLE NIGHT???

And (let's not forget) someone whips Dany up a blinging new fur coat. Did she just have that in her wardrobe lying around just in case?

KentMum2008 · 21/08/2017 15:06

I've been wondering where Dany gets all her clothes from to be honest. Missandei could be a badass seamstress but I've not seen a haberdashers in Dragonstone as yet.

Gendry managed to row all the way to Kings Landing, maybe navigating kind of is his thing.

I think we have to just ignore the time issue, there's so much to cram in now there's no way they can waste screen time on pointless things like cross country journeys. Remember in series 1, the journey from Winterfell to Kings landing took 2 episodes 😂

SenatorBunghole · 21/08/2017 15:23

Arya is tedious and Jon is a fucking idiot. Thank the old gods and the new for Tormund and the Hound. RIP Uncle Benjen.

nigelsbigface · 21/08/2017 15:33

But Sansa didn't set anyone up did she-she was asked to write the letter for fear of her life and she thought it best at the time to try and save her remaining family. I just don't see the issue, or what Arya's beef is?
As Sansa said-did she charge through the crowd and safe Ned? No she didn't-she couldnt have done anymore than Sansa could-but Arya can hardly give it out to Sansa about it? Unless I've missed something...

This is the first episode I've liked Dany in for about 3 seasons...

Is she Jon's Aunt? Sorry if we've already established that way back when...

Pinkkahori · 21/08/2017 15:39

For a minute I thought it was all going to go pear shaped and we would have a dead John riding the ice dragon. Thanks Uncle Benjen for preventing that one!
