CAUTION - HERE BE DRAGONS (PROBABLY) AND SPOILERS

THIS THREAD IS FOR DISCUSSION OF SEASON 7, EPISODE 6 "BEYOND THE WALL"

Come and discuss the fifth episode in the penultimate series, airing August 21ST at 2am UK time! Don't read the thread if you want to avoid finding out what happens in Season 7 but also Seasons 1-6. This is the penultimate episode this series!!

Please avoid discussing leaks and production details for Seasons 7 and 8 but speculate away on what we have learnt from the new episodes and what it might mean for the rest of the Season and the ultimate winner(s) of the Game of Thrones. There is a spoiler thread running here if you want to talk about production leaks and insider information as well

As a little warm up for later, HBO have just released a little teaser for tonight's episode here

mangomay you are entirely correct. However, the show writes its own rules now - seemingly episode by episode.

Anyway, there's only one episode left of this mess of a season and I'm sure the NK is going to be happy to test-drive the excretion powers of his new WMD which was so conveniently exchanged for....... One Wight.......a gift for Cersei....... That was a great plan.....

gincamelbak · 23/08/2017 08:24

I don't understand why all the wights were.so determined to get the kidnapped one back. Do they care or is it the night king? Does he know what's going on or what they are planning?

Are the other white walkers sentient?

ElenaGreco123 · 23/08/2017 08:39

In the books wights can smell warm blood, so they go after the living, not their wight mate.
Not sure about the show. It seemed they were entirely under the control of the white walkers by the lake.

ElenaGreco123 · 23/08/2017 08:42

The white walkers are magical sentient beings.

I am going out on a limb here, but I don't think Drogon sensed Jon is a Targ or Longclaw opened its eyes to signal that. I think the white walkers, the dragons and Ghost sense that Jon is a magical being similar to them. So once magic leaves the world once again, he'll go. And so will Dany.

MarvellousMonsters · 23/08/2017 08:58

Ozzyman review!!!!

Mustang27 · 23/08/2017 10:51

The white walker on a mission to steal a human 😂.

And it's bloody hammer time.

Benjen could have gotten on that horse just like Leo could have gotten on that door in titanic.

Honestly I love Ozzy man review more than the show itself Grin

WhippetyStourie · 23/08/2017 10:53

Just watched again to see the wolf on Longclaw open it's eye. What could that mean?

MarvellousMonsters · 23/08/2017 11:03

I've watched the clip of longclaw 'blinking' over and over. I'm pretty sure it's just the shadow of Jons hand as he pops up out of the water.

AryaUnderfootNowPrefersSansa · 23/08/2017 11:11

Skip to 48 seconds in to avoid the crap and try to ignore the stupid voices...... This video made me howl.

TheHiphopopotamus · 23/08/2017 11:16

I think I'll be a bit annoyed if they introduce magic swords that come to life at this point in the series. I can't explain why, though. Just seems like a step too far (and yes, I know there are zombies, dragons and decades long summers Grin).

AryaUnderfootNowPrefersSansa · 23/08/2017 12:35

I've just read an article on Watchers on the Wall with an interview with episode director Alan Taylor. Basically, he says that the sword head appearing to open its eyes is not intentional and is probably a camera fluke.

MarvellousMonsters · 23/08/2017 13:49

Am I the only one fretting about Bron? He's one of my favourite characters, I desperately need him to defect back to Tyrion and away from the Lannisters.

BrawneLamia · 23/08/2017 14:08

Finally managed to watch the latest episode.
Agree with others that the plot is getting silly, but I'm still gripped.
I was shouting at Jon to get on that bloody dragon! I can't understand why he wanted to stay and fight, what was the point? He was just fighting random zombie-wights, he was nowhere near the NK, was he?

Jon is linked to the mormonts somehow. That conversation with Jorah about Longclaw was significant I think . Does anyone else think this might mean Jon will eventually (in a few years, hopefully!) hook up with Lyanna Mormont?

I read the first couple of books, my plan was to read the book after the corresponding series. Unfortunately it didn't work out as the plots started to diverge so I gave up.

OlennasWimple · 23/08/2017 15:09

rizlett - I think we've seen the last of the Children of the Forest (unless in flashback) because we were told that Leaf and her companions were the last ones then they died in the 3ER's tree cave thingy in season 6

The books are well worth reading, particularly to give some extra depth to the show. The latter ones need a really good prune (much like the later Harry Potter's IMHO), and they are ideal candidates for reading on a Kindle as they are so big

I agree Mustang, Ozziman's reviews are better than GoT nowadays! So funny. "Barbecue!!" And Gendry running like f in speed up!😆

yumyumpoppycat · 23/08/2017 17:53

Sandra and wolverine Grin

Puffpaw · 23/08/2017 19:09

In the books wights can smell warm blood, so they go after the living,
This is why I think the mountain may end up being a hero, and (I hope) cleganebowl wont happen.
marvellous yes I'm fretting about bron too!
The plot is very silly but I'm also gripped Grin brawne
the show writes its own rules now - seemingly episode by episode. true and I agree it is annoying.the first few series were so much better. Still a good incentive for me to read the books. Kindle tip noted olenna

QueenoftheAndals · 23/08/2017 20:32

I've not come across Ozziman before but I do enjoy the reviews!

I did read that the director of the episode said that the longclaw eye thing was just a trick of the light and was not intentional.
He also said that if you look there is a chain ferry thing that used to take people across the water so that's where the chains came from and maybe if they were already in the water it was just a case of dragging the dragon out with them (or the night king made some wights sacrifice themselves to go to the bottom of the lake and attach them to the dragon)

QueenoftheAndals · 23/08/2017 22:04

"Approachable Karl Lagerfeld" for the Night King was my favourite, along with Jared Let-himself-go for euron!

Uokbing · 24/08/2017 08:06

Someone upthread had a theory that the Night King is actually.going to try and stop Danaerys from destroying everything when she goes nuts?!

Omg, what a twist!

It is Danaerys who is the 'bad guy' in the end and 'Winter' comes to actually save Westeros?

Is it a possibility?

However, i also like the 'Bran is the Night King' theory or Jon having to kill Bran when he is warged into the Night King.

We needs some big twists at this point though and also some.more.big characters to die soon. It was so exciting at the beginning when you really didn't know who would.be next to go. In the last episode, I almost wanted.Tormund to die as it would have brought back some of that 'noooooooooo' feeling from .the early series.

I am starting to feel like the time for resolving loose.ends is actually starting to run out which means the ending might actually be a bit crap? A bit like Broachurch where there were so many ideas and theories that by the last episode there was no way that the ending could be anything other than quite simple.

Mustang27 · 24/08/2017 09:50

Please don't kill Tormund!!!!

Haha Honeyroar I loved the fast forward Gendry but realistically that was the speed he needed to run!

Barbecue makes the dragons a lot less scary lol.

Does anyone else think that Viserion is going to breathe ice??

I loved the one you shared to Arya but it was hard to watch due to them pointing out all the holes and conflicting info in the script and editing, made me sad.

TooExtraImmatureCheddar · 24/08/2017 10:25

Re-reading Feast of Crows now to remind myself of how the story is supposed to go! I'm enjoying it a lot more this time around because I know that some characters don't appear and that nothing much will actually happen. Focussing on the wealth of myth instead - and loving Brienne!

KentMum2008 · 24/08/2017 13:20

WRT the deaths (or lack thereof) this season, I think we're being lulled into a false sense of security. I don't think they're saving it for the season finale, although I don't doubt there will be significant losses. But if you look at who is left alive atm, realistically there's very few characters they could kill off in episode 7 that won't have a potentially huge part to play in season 8. I think it's all being saved for season 8, and over the course of the 6 Shock episodes, we will experience catastrophic losses. I know there's only 6 eps, but they'll still be hard to fill if there's only a handful of main characters left and it's far too late to introduce new characters. I honestly don't believe anyone is safe next season.
