CAUTION - HERE BE DRAGONS (PROBABLY) AND SPOILERS

THIS THREAD IS FOR DISCUSSION OF SEASON 7, EPISODE 6 "BEYOND THE WALL"

Come and discuss the fifth episode in the penultimate series, airing August 21ST at 2am UK time! Don't read the thread if you want to avoid finding out what happens in Season 7 but also Seasons 1-6. This is the penultimate episode this series!!

Please avoid discussing leaks and production details for Seasons 7 and 8 but speculate away on what we have learnt from the new episodes and what it might mean for the rest of the Season and the ultimate winner(s) of the Game of Thrones. There is a spoiler thread running here if you want to talk about production leaks and insider information as well

As a little warm up for later, HBO have just released a little teaser for tonight's episode here

Marvellous Targaryans have always wed brother to sister (with the odd exception).

She won't care. He might.

AryaUnderfootNowPrefersSansa · 21/08/2017 20:23

The Hound definitely needs a hat.

MarvellousMonsters · 21/08/2017 20:26

Arya, yes, exactly. She'll barely shrug, he might be bothered though. Perhaps he'll get over it as she's allegedly unable to have more children.

KentMum2008 · 21/08/2017 20:30

Watched it again earlier and realised Tormund and Beric don't get on the boat. So no Brimund this series.

Totally in love with Berics voice too, although I was in love with his character in Fortitude (that accent 😍) so when Beric lit up that sword I actually made a sex noise. DH was 😒 and said something about unrealistic expectations of a man 😂😂

Yes lots of mentions of Dany not being able to have children, and also Jorah saying to Jon something about Longclaw serving him well, and his children after him.

TheHiphopopotamus · 21/08/2017 20:30

Is the idea that we will all be heartbroken when Jon finds out he has been lusting after his auntie

I really can't see that making a difference tbh. I thought the Targs were well known for shagging their relatives.

I'm not feeling this series either though. It's like they had an idea for some enormous set pieces, and can't be arsed enough to fill in all the bits in between. And it's taken ages in the first 5 series for anyone to get anywhere, geographically, and now everyone's zipping here, there and everywhere in the blink of an eye. It's a bit irritating.

OlennasWimple · 21/08/2017 20:35

Tywin Lannister married his first cousin, Joanna, and I think there are other examples around of close blood marriage.

Holy moly... well that started with plenty of chats whilst trudging in the ice, then turned into something I wasn't expecting, but in hindsight probably should have. They teased us with the idea that the dragons were able to be hurt; of course they were going to finish that line of thought.

So are we all on board with the idea of Jon and Not-Dany as being the riders of the fire dragons?

And what the heck is going to happen next week? (Rhetorical question; am doing really well at avoiding spoilers although I think I've heard one but I won't say what it was.)

I guess they're headed down to KL. As is Brienne. I wanted Arya to go with; she could take out Cersei whilst Brienne made eyes at Jaime.

Will the Night King just flap along slowly on Vizombiron? Or is he likely to roam ahead, terrorise Winterfell, then circle back?

YoureAllABunchOfBastards · 21/08/2017 20:41

I think they forgot to mention that Dragons (and Varys) can time travel.

How the fuck it took Dany all this time to get to Westeros when you can zip about like no bugger's business is beyond me.

And will we get more of Yara/Euron/Theon or is that being left for next series?

BlueeSpottyTiger · 21/08/2017 20:44

Is it bad that I'm actually considering calling my baby Benjen if it's a boy hahaha. Shame dp isn't a GoT fan. I think he's the only person i know who isn't!

TheHiphopopotamus · 21/08/2017 20:45

I hope Euron dies in the final. I know some people were raving on Twitter about how 'he was the villain this series needed' now they've sexed him up a bit but I find him irritating as fuck. Reminds me of a Scandinavian version of Russell Brand.

BlueeSpottyTiger · 21/08/2017 20:46

Marvellous i agree!!! They have some serious chemisty.
I thought the little hand hold scene was nice...although weird like you said 😂

Oblomov17 · 21/08/2017 20:46

I didn't understand why Dany pulled her hand away from Jon's?

MarvellousMonsters · 21/08/2017 20:47

YoureAllABunchOfBastards, perhaps the time travel/warp-speed feature in Dragons is only activated once they reach maturity? It's the only plausible explanation.

SenatorBunghole · 21/08/2017 20:52

Euron is too much of a caricature to bother keeping alive much longer, enjoy him though I do. I expect him to bite it before the end.

OlennasWimple · 21/08/2017 21:08

I think Euron will be around for a bit longer: Cersei needs a strong ally now that Jon and Dany are formally in alliance.

TheSecondOfHerName · 21/08/2017 21:13

Well that was tense. I think I actually forgot to breathe for some parts of it.

yumyumpoppycat · 21/08/2017 21:14

I have been laughing so much at the chat - esp hats, lets hope zombie bees aren't added to the other beyond the wall zombie fauna.

But why oh why couldn't Benjen have got there more quickly than Dany?! I thought he was already dead like Jon, surely he isn't just hanging out there alive.

AryaunderfootnowprefersSansa Grin ..... the description of Arya from the book sounds very dark, maybe the show is tangling us up in petty sibling squabbles rather than go there properly? at least it would be going somewhere even if it was hard to watch.

TheSecondOfHerName · 21/08/2017 21:21

Gendry managed to row all the way to Kings Landing, maybe navigating kind of is his thing.

To be fair, he started off near King's Landing, so it wasn't a journey of epic proportions.

Puffpaw · 21/08/2017 21:23

poppycat the first thing I said to dh was they need some fire bees 🐝 not dragons 🐉 fire bees could easily get the NK.

KentMum2008 · 21/08/2017 21:23

TheSecond I thought he started rowing from Dragonstone? Was that not where Davis helped him escape from Melisandre?

KentMum2008 · 21/08/2017 21:23

Davos ffs

Puffpaw · 21/08/2017 21:24

I think ayra is the lone wolf and I think Sansa will have to finish her off with ice cold cunning, because she does something to endanger them all at winterfell.

TheSecondOfHerName · 21/08/2017 21:26

Oooh yes, it was Dragonstone, after she used his blood to make a shadow baby. Sorry, it was a little while ago, so I got confused.

ElenaGreco123 · 21/08/2017 21:33

The Starks also had close family marriages to unite various warring factions within the house. For instance Rickatd Stark, Ned's father, was married to a cousin once removed.

EvenworsethanGlen · 21/08/2017 21:35

Am I the only one hoping that when there's the (inevitable) battle between ice dragon and fire dragons, the 'dead' dragon will come good when he sees his mother (there will be something still left in his brain that will recognize her) and he'll end up turning on the Walkers and White Walkers at the very last minute.
