{Googles difference between white walker and wights} I haven't watched the new episode and am guessing this question will be answered on that, but if the white walkers control the wights could they not just stop controlling the wight that's been captured?

odd - I definitely think that the books will have a role for Gendry in working Valyrian steel, as he was apprenticed to the smith who forged Ice into the two new swords. (In the show they cut this by bringing in a smith from Volantis instead)
