WARNING: HERE BE DRAGONS (probably) AND SPOILERS

THIS THREAD IS FOR DISCUSSION OF SEASON 7, EPISODE 5 "EASTWATCH"

Come and discuss the fifth episode in the penultimate series, airing August 14th at 2am UK time! Don't read the thread if you want to avoid finding out what happens in Season 7 but also Seasons 1-6. Only three more episodes to go this season!!

Please avoid discussing leaks and production details for Seasons 7 and 8 but speculate away on what we have learnt from the new episodes and what it might mean for the rest of the Season and the ultimate winner(s) of the Game of Thrones. There is a spoiler thread running here if you want to talk about production leaks and insider information as well

And why does Cersei keep that grim short hairstyle - is it to show her ongoing penitence or just that it's now her trademark hair style (and to distinguish her from luscious locks of other female characters)?

Aridane · 16/08/2017 14:27

and what is the significance of Jon Snow being able to stroke the dragon and make it purr?

OlennasWimple · 16/08/2017 14:56

Ariadne - we assume that the lance was removed by Dany's soliders and didn't do any significant damage (Dan was able to fly home to Dragonstone on Drogon)

I guess the short hair is to show that she is out manning the men. I don't think that she is particularly penitent about anything...

Jon being able to stroke Drogon shows that he has an affinity with dragons, which is a hint that he may have Targaryan (or at least Valeryan) blood. This matters less to show viewers, who have already had confirmation that he is the son of Lyanna Stark and Rhaegar Targaryan, but to the show characters who think that he is Ned Stark's bastard son with some random Westerosi wench this is an interesting new development.

Oh god yeah. I can't stand cersei's hair.

AdalindSchade · 16/08/2017 16:26

Ob sorry if you were just speculating, the way you worded it seemed like you were asking for concrete knowledge
I agree Jon Snow is sexy as and needs a lady love but I don't think it can be Daenarys.

OlennasWimple · 16/08/2017 16:49

I would speculate that Alice Karstark would be a good match for Jon if he wants to consolidate his power in the north and doesn't care much what happens down south.

If Dany is to be the bride of fire, who the crap is that? It can't be Jon. Although if he is fire as well as ice and ends up a dragon rider maybe it is.

JAPAB · 16/08/2017 17:02

"Fascinating, so Jon may or may not be burnt by fire"

He was burnt in season 1. Not sure about now though.

How does news travel so fast that the Citadel would know of Sam's family losses already?

OlennasWimple · 16/08/2017 17:07

JAPAB - ravens....

Targs aren't immune from fire, just a bit more heat resistant (I think DH must be part Targ, he can pick up things that would burn my fingers). Dany's survival of two infernos is a) magic and b) a show only thing

I don't think Cersei is trying to demonstrate ongoing penitence, since she's about to tell the world she's pregnant to her brother!

ElenaGreco123 · 16/08/2017 18:25

We all think blood magic is necessary to bond humans with dragons, but there are some gentle doubts in the books. There is a chance that any human can bond with dragons just like any wild animals, so Tyrion can still be a Lannister.

Try some of the links on here for episode 6. Some are still working.

yumyumpoppycat · 16/08/2017 19:44

Aryaunderfoot well at least there are some less obvious plotline conclusions to look forward to.

Cerseis hair - in season 1 was she more blonde her - hair seemed to become more strawberry blond a few seasons ago? They could give her a better short style at least!

I really loved the observations on here of Arya and Sansa's behaviour being typical of reverting back to old sister behaviour. Wouldn't it be great if Sansa sees through LF and saves Arya rather than the other way round.

MarvellousMonsters · 16/08/2017 19:59

I'm at the stage now where there's two episodes left, I want to know what happens, but at the same time holy shit, only two!!!

I am in the 'is Cersei really pregnant or just teasing Jaime?' Camp. Bron must be the strongest swimmer in the galaxy and I'm a bit nervous about the quest to catch a walker.

Once again though the Ozzy Man review is ace:

Mustang27 · 16/08/2017 20:57

And Varys is like.....are you fuckin drunk GrinShockGrin

Middleoftheroad · 16/08/2017 21:09

Just saw ep 6 on Kodi.
Is there a new thread or discussion on a spoiler thread please?
I need to talk..... Grin

Middleoftheroad · 16/08/2017 21:14

Much obliged as evet Arya!

AryaUnderfoot · 16/08/2017 21:21

No problems! We are here to serve (the many faced god).

Aridane · 16/08/2017 21:24

Is it just me who finds Arya the character - not the poster!! - a bit annoying ? Blush

Trills · 16/08/2017 21:26

@3EyedRaven of course by "you" I mean "them" :o

SuperStormborn · 16/08/2017 21:55

i quite literally thought Cersei was just waiting for her hair to grow out again. Although she may just be keeping it short now to show her strength after what the high sparrow did to her

ImListening · 16/08/2017 21:57

I so wanted Dany & Jon to get together, now I don't want that at all as she's become so irritating with her bend the knee.

AdalindSchade · 16/08/2017 22:02

Loads of time has passed, the third sand snake had short hair last season and shoulder lengths this one. Cersei is trying to look masculine and general like I think. The short hair goes with the armoured outfits and the servant with short hair reminded me of the emulation of kings/queens in medieval times
