WARNING: HERE BE DRAGONS (probably) AND SPOILERS

THIS THREAD IS FOR DISCUSSION OF SEASON 7, EPISODE 5 "EASTWATCH"

Come and discuss the fifth episode in the penultimate series, airing August 14th at 2am UK time! Don't read the thread if you want to avoid finding out what happens in Season 7 but also Seasons 1-6. Only three more episodes to go this season!!

Please avoid discussing leaks and production details for Seasons 7 and 8 but speculate away on what we have learnt from the new episodes and what it might mean for the rest of the Season and the ultimate winner(s) of the Game of Thrones. There is a spoiler thread running here if you want to talk about production leaks and insider information as well

Speaking of Sand Snakes, what's happened to Yara?

Trills · 16/08/2017 22:23

(not that she is one, but she was captured alongside)

Mustang27 · 16/08/2017 22:25

I think she is trying to avoid femininity so she can look more in charge. I like it her short hair for some reason it suits her character. I find it odd looking back at Cersie of old now.

Actually this thread has put me in the mood to rewatch from the start. Trying to decide wether to start now or wait to help eek out the wait for the last season. I'm going to also reread the books. Not sure how il get on with any of it with a toddler and a newborn due soon.

honeyroar · 16/08/2017 22:26

Cersei might marry Euron and let the world think that the baby is his? Just like everyone thought the others were Roberts.

Mustang27 · 16/08/2017 22:28

She told Jaime that she was telling the world it was his. I'm not sure how he would react if she did that.

CeeBeeBee · 16/08/2017 23:09

My heart sank when Littlefinger peered behind the wall as Arts left his room. I really hope she's just playing a game and knows she's being watched, to let him think he has the upper hand.

CeeBeeBee · 16/08/2017 23:09

Should be Arya, not Arts.

ElenaGreco123 · 16/08/2017 23:16

About the dragons:
Does Jon stroking Drogon means that the rule about never touching someone else's dragon while the rider is alive is a human made rule / bullshit? Or the show writers just don't care?

Arya is what I thought Rickon would grow up to be. Angry and damaged.

SuperStormborn · 16/08/2017 23:57

I think Yara is still being held captive in kings landing - obviously Theon attempted to organise a rescue mission, but daenerys had already left to fight the lannister soldiers. We will more than likely see her in the finale

SuperStormborn · 17/08/2017 00:00

And yes I agree about Cersei's hair. She said before she was jealous of jamie and how differently they were brought up due to their different genders, so now is her chance to appear masculine

LadyFlumpalot · 17/08/2017 07:12

Question: In the visions Dany had in an earlier season when she was looking for her dragons in the tower she saw Kings Landing in ruins and covered in snow.

I was wondering if this plan to bring a White Walker to Kings Landing is the trigger for this? I didn't think the snows ever got that far south otherwise!

AryaUnderfoot · 17/08/2017 07:24

I always wondered whether that was snow Dany saw falling in the throne room or ash...

Maybe she saw Snow on the Iron Throne?

Elena oh yes, I had forgotten about Rickon (as, it seems, has every other Stark sibling) Wink. He hasn't had a single mention this season - even Ghost got a sentence!

LadyFlumpalot · 17/08/2017 07:40

@AryaUnderfoot Oh that's a good point- it could well be ash. Hmmm.

Also, what about this theory that Bram himself has allowed the Nights King into Westeros just by coming through the wall? He was marked by the Nights King which broke the defences around the Three Eyed Raven - surely the same magic protects the wall?

Also also, did anyone else think that the storm just outside of Eastwatch by the Sea when they left the wall means the undead army is closer than they think? Like right in front of them close?

TizzyDongue · 17/08/2017 07:55

Me too CeeBeeBee, I don't like the idea that Arya will be outwitted after all the training we had to mind endure she had to go through I'd like to think she'll come out the wiser one.

SheStoodInTheStorm · 17/08/2017 08:57

I thought Cersei was just growing it out too!

My understanding of the time passing in GOT is so poor Confused

maggiso · 17/08/2017 09:01

Bran said he needed to speak to Jon. Ravens can go astray or be shot down and their messages read by the wrong people, so not sending a raven to Jon to tell him of his birth is wise - as well as a good devise to keep us all waiting!
I wondered for a moment if Gendry could be the dark haired baby Cercei and Robert 'lost' ( mentioned after Brans fall) - but that is far too far fetched even for GOTs.
The wall is contains watchers frozen into the wall- is that in the tv or just the books? They are there IIRC to protect the wall- but surely they must be ice zombies? Oh it's all very - complex!
I wonder if Westeross will end up being ruled by people like Davos and Sam ( with Gilly) rather than the blue blooded ones.

Mustang27 · 17/08/2017 09:10

Maggiso, I like that idea.

AryaUnderfoot · 17/08/2017 09:19

maggiso there are magical devices of sorts in the wall to protect the 'secret' entrances from being used by anyone other than the Night's Watch in the books.

Coldhands leads Sam and Gilly to the entrance under the Night Fort so that Sam can open the gate (I think it's called the black gate but I may be wrong) and let Bran and crew through. I don't remember how it's explained in the show other than 'spells'.

squishysquirmy · 17/08/2017 10:45

The magic of the wall doesn't need to be broken if the sea freezes over though does it? Then the ice zombies could just march around the wall, which would fit with a couple of prophesies.

Mustang27 · 17/08/2017 13:29

For all the leaky watchers lol

^ my exact reason for trying to avoid it Grin

Mner · 17/08/2017 17:16

I've been torn for that reason too especially as it's then just the last one of the series to go

ChiefClerkDrumknott · 17/08/2017 23:03

A colleague of mine has seen it and says it's brilliant. I'm practically a saint for resisting it Grin

Mustang27 · 18/08/2017 09:21

I couldn't watch them because I really need to talk about the episode afterwards so I'd spoil it for too many people with my big trap.

Mner · 18/08/2017 10:05

We're away camping this afternoon for the weekend so no chance to cave! please don't let it rain
