I dont think its time-travelly, but I do think its going to use the "circles of time" setup, where history repeats itself through the cycles of short winters and long winter - I wouldnt be surprised if the NK is defeated and then Bran is shown starting to become what will be the new NK in the next long winter.

BeyondQueenOfLists · 09/08/2017 10:46

I'm sure we all commented on sansa's "no one can keep me safe" when she said it last season Grin

BeyondQueenOfLists · 09/08/2017 10:57

Lol at "probably ed sheeran" Grin

BelaLugosisShed · 09/08/2017 12:32

I think both Tarlys survived, probably to be burnt alive next week for refusing to bend the knee to Dany.
I also hope Bran will see LF with his knife up to Ned's throat from season one, which will mean curtains for him.
Gendry must appear next week too, probably in Kings landing.

WeDoNotSow · 09/08/2017 14:21

Dany is turning into a massive megalomaniac. She gone from wanting to make people want her to be their queen, to just making herself their queen.
She thinks the Westerosi people 'belong' to her. Maybe she was like that all along, but we never saw it until she got there.
She seems to forget that the Starks were managing perfectly well as kings in the North before Aegon came along.
Someone needs to remind her that he was the original 'usurper'.
I've said this before but I fully believe we will hear her say 'burn them all' before the end

ImListening · 09/08/2017 14:43

Just had a chat with a friend & we think that Dany will become 'the mad queen' - she's getting on our nerves with her bend the knee stuff.

StormTreader · 09/08/2017 14:49

I wonder if Danys handmaiden will ask to leave and be refused after her "she'd let me leave if I wanted to, I know it!" conversation.

AryaUnderfoot · 09/08/2017 14:57

I find it irritating that Dany's 'followers' that she's picked up along the way are given the perception that they have a choice about whether or not she is their queen.

The people of Westeros, on the other hand, have to bend the knee because she was 'born to rule the seven kingdoms'. No inconsistency at all...

Her birthright means nothing. If Jon is proved to be legitimate her claim evaporates immediately. The only claim she has is 3 big dragons. Her CV as a ruler is not very impressive. I wouldn't want her as my queen.

christmasunicorn · 09/08/2017 15:14

Yes I think Dany's "claim" has gone to her head and she is turning into the mad queen. The trailer for next week shows varys and Tyrion concerned about her loosing it. Although I just suspect that's what they are referring to, you can never quite tell.
I thought the conversation with Dickon was enlightening. It's been made a point of how randall tarly enjoys war and fighting, hence the reason Sam ended up at the wall - he was too soft, and Randall wanted Dickon, a fighter, to be his heir. The fact that Dickon did not enjoy the fight, did not enjoy turning on his friends and slaughtering those he grew up with, for politics, I think is telling. If Randall was burnt (here's hoping) and Dickon now in charge of Horn Hill I wonder if he will take them in a more peaceful direction and against the Lannisters. After all being willing to turn against Highgarden shows that's their loyalty really isn't that loyal.
With such short seasons I don't think any conversation shown is just "small talk" to fill the gaps. Every word spoken is important in the coming 10(!!!) episodes

WeDoNotSow · 09/08/2017 19:02

They wouldn't have shown Missandei saying she could leave if she wanted to, without it being important imo.
I heard that although there's only seven episodes, the last one is 'feature film length' so prob abt an hour and a half

WeDoNotSow · 09/08/2017 19:03

Seven episodes in S7 in mean.
Is there really only 10 episodes left for the whole thing? Wow

JAPAB · 09/08/2017 19:33

I think they should have combined seasons 7 and 8 to end with an extended final season. To finish the thing with a half-season may feel a bit blink-and-miss.

honeyroar · 09/08/2017 21:08

Yes it would have been better continuing on with the next series now. The waits are so long and so annoying! Ten episodes went quick enough, seven will feel incredibly quick.

Does anyone know when the final series is expected?

JAPAB · 09/08/2017 22:22

Ten episodes went quick enough, seven will feel incredibly quick.

Isn't it 6 for the final season? Oh well, you could always watch the first 67 eps and time them to finish just before s8 begins. Then it really will feel like an epic has ended :)

honeyroar · 09/08/2017 22:52

Funnily enough I did that before this series. It just happened to be on HBO one weekend I was in the USA, I got nothing done! It was good to remember things I'd forgotten.

My husband said the other day, what are we going to do with our lives when it finishes?? It's going to be like the end of Harry Potter all over again!

gincamelbak · 09/08/2017 23:37

Sake, Dany. Stop demanding people bend the knee. Everyone who does ends up dead, it's not exactly an attractive prospect really.

Short sighted to burn the grain train.

Am team Brienne and Pod all the way. I hope Sam finds something useful in The Handy Preselected Scrolls.

JAPAB · 10/08/2017 00:17

I've read that there are going to be three or four spin-off series. It's hugely popular so they won't let go of it just yet.

GoldenKelpie · 10/08/2017 00:30

FYI the actor who plays Brianne (Gwendoline Christie) is also in Top of the Lake: China Girl, currently on BBC iplayer. Just watching on catch-up.

Knights of the Seven Kingdom, the prequel, maybe? A bit like mythical beasts/Harry Potter

AryaUnderfoot · 10/08/2017 08:34

WRT Spin-offs: GRRM has already ruled out Dunk and Egg and anything within the lifespans of the current show/book characters. So there will be no Robert's Rebellion series.

I've said this before, but I suspect the spin-offs will include Nymeria's conquest of Dorne.

AryaUnderfoot · 10/08/2017 08:42

Spin-offs from the horse's mouth:

Shame. I was so looking forward to watching 10 episodes of Gendry rowing Grin

BlueKarou · 10/08/2017 11:02

They wouldn't have shown Missandei saying she could leave if she wanted to, without it being important imo.

I figured it was more to do with softening Jon up; giving him a glimpse at someone who genuinely loves, serves, respects Dany.

But then I was wrong about the gold and the grain, so I'm prepared to be wrong about all the things!

OlennasWimple · 10/08/2017 11:20

I guess the short series this year is to ensure that we get a series this year, rather than have to wait until 2018 for an extended final season. I know which approach I prefer!

Re the dagger:

  • GRRM has said that he regrets making the dagger so valuable. When he wrote that bit, he hadn't worked through the implications of it being Valyrian steel with a dragon bone handle, so wherever D&D are taking this plot line, it's not one that GRRM originally conceived (so no "Hodor" moment). Though of course GRRM has now had plenty of time to work out what to do with the dagger in the books
  • LF says that he won the dagger from Tyrion BUT he also says that Tyrion had bet against Jaime. Later in the series, we hear Tyrion say that he never bets against a Lannister, so there is an inconsistency here. I suspect LF to be the unreliable narrator in this situation
  • I've seen it said elsewhere that Robert Baratheon had mountains of swords and daggers that were given to him as presents over the years, so the common theory is that Joffrey took it from the court store then gave it to the assassin to use. I'm not entirely convinced by this theory, though - it's a bit of a distinctive blade to choose for a murder weapon
OP posts:
AryaUnderfoot · 10/08/2017 12:05

I was under the impression that Tyrion found out that it was Joffrey who sent the assassin as it was his dagger. I don't know if I'm putting 2 and 2 together and getting 5. I think Tyrion 'discovered' it when he was having the conversation with Tywin about the swords that Tywin had forged from Ice. I'll have to go and re-read that bit.
